Chapter 3: Miscalculation
Zero tighten up his grip and slowly turned around. He chose the latter. He believes that for whatever's happening up ahead could be dangerous.
"Man, if i knew i would waste my time and energy over some random voice that i heard i could have just turned a blind eye and..."
As soon as he was about to finish his sentence, he heard foot steps approaching on the middle passage
Zero hurriedly hid behind a school table, which were scattered around the place. The area he's in were filled with tables, chairs and other school properties. He never paid attention from his surroundings because of the running he had been through.
As the mysterious indivuduals walks closer, heading towards Zero's way, he heard their conversation vaguely. Quietly, he began listening
"I couldn't believe we got the gem from that little brat"
"Indeed. Who knew they were hidden in this labyrinth"
"It is a good thing that there's an opening ceremony right now. Our boss will be delighted if we bring this to him.
"Yeah, i guess so"
Apalled, Zero' eyes grew wide as he realised that these group of people are thugs or syndicates. But more importantly, he remembered the little girl.
"Two? No, three people heading his way. But, what happened to the girl?"
He mumbles to himself. He knew if the group saw him now, his life could be taken away after he had heard something which he should not have. But he couldn't just hold back. He's worried about the girl's life.
A loud screech coming from way back the alley reverberates across the room. Zero plugs his ears using his forefingers as if it was the last moment he could appreciate his ability to hear. If he hadn't protected his ears, his eardrums might have bursted already.
"Hey hey. What's with this girl?! I thought we killed her already!"
As the voice comes rushing closer, dazzling specs of rainbow coloured lights could be seen blazing in the hallway, illuminating the wide space including the three syndicates.
Squinting his eyes, Zero stood up hoping to see something in the midst of the bizzarre luster. The three men are wearing black robes and a mask beneath their faces. They are also equipped which seems to be a wand, a staff and a pair of knuckles respectively. Apart from the mysterious men which were coruscated by the light, a lassie could be seen sprinting towards the robe men. No, she was flying hastily towards them.
As soon as her image came near,
Unmistakenly, Zero notices cuts, wounds and bruises all over the young lady's body; not to mention, oodles of blood continuously dripping on the side of her forehead. Her long purple hair may conceal her injury but if the wound itself couldn't be treated soon, she may greatly suffer from hemmorhage.
She is wearing the academy's uniform but strangely enough there is some sort of jewelry, saphire may be, located at the breast pocket of her polo
Still trying to perceive the events occuring right infront of him, Zero moves to a nearby cabinet, right accross the table he used to hid from, in order for him to closely observe the scene.
"Lumière perçante!" The girl bawled with all her might.
It wasn't loud but it was enough for Zero to be able to hear it.
After enchanting those words, green figures which seems to be magic circles began glowing on the tip of the girl's fingers. Marvelous colours of light starts accumulating on her hand which made her vibrantly glow on the ceiling beneath the three men.
"Kurai kage!" The man pointed out his wand as he roared to contest the little girl's spell.
Jet-black shadows envelopes a certain area whereas deflected the arrays of light charging right through them.
Indeed, it's a remarkable spell which the three men were really fond of.
Zero, bewildered from the phenomenon, tries dialing his cellphone to call for whoever's available.
"No signal, tsk!" Zero clicked his tongue. He couldn't get out from this situation. As much as he wanted to leave, he was obliged to stay put, hidden and observe the scene. He's worried about the girl with the purple hair that possess alarming injuries.
The dark entity of shadow commences to shape forming an appearance of a powerful stygian wyvern.
"You got to be kidding me. That thing... is overkill...too overkill." Zero is astonished as the wyvern begins to take figure and growled horribly to the girl
and indeed
A wyvern, standing 15 feet long, was known to be a ferocious winged two-legged dragon with a barbed tail could bring destruction to a nation
With its deadly appearance, the wyvern uses its 2 metre tail to tackle the damsel who was still floating mid-air.
Dodging. The young girl is desperately dodging the barbaric attacks of the dragon when suddenly
*smack*
The tail hits the target, leading the girl to fall swiftly on the ground, towards Zero
Luckily, Zero regained his posture and dashes forward saving the damsel in distress.
With his arms opened wide, Zero did a full slide im order for the girl to land on his arms, which is softer than the ground
Fortunately, the young lady suffered minor injuries because of it
But was rather unconscious due to the assault of the dragon's tail.
Zero also managed to sustain light injuries, but the real threat now was the men infront of them, including the wyvern
"Ho? Who knew there was a peaking tom after all this?" Says the man with the staff
"Say, can we kill them already?" Clacking his fist, the two of them slowly approaches Zero.
Zero held the girl in his arms. hopelessly carries her away from danger.
It's the first time he had met the girl still he doesn't want to leave her defensless to her grave
"Wait. Something doesn't feel right" the guy with the wand, who appears to be their leader, stepped forward and places both each of his hands on the shoulder of his comrades.
The designs on their mask and the colour of their robes are different. The two men, who's hand had been placed by the leader, are wearing dark-purple robes with a serpent medallion below the neck which signifies that they are united by an organisation.
The leader, contrarily, is wearing a greyish-purple rob. He also has a serpent crest on the right side of his chest.
Glaring towards Zero's, he prepares his wand, secretly casting magic.
"We wouldn't hurt a girl. Hand over her and we'll let you live"
silence echoes throughout the room and both Zero and their leader are staring to each other. Zero carefully lifted the young lady and musters up his courage
"Heh... over my dead body"
He knew that giving the girl to them would be the most logical answer. He was given a chance to live, yet he threw it away. Despite those cowardly thoughts, he stood up and stared fiercly, piercing the leers against his enemies.
Tension starts to fill up the air as Zero felt the enormous dragon storming around his view
