Chapter 17: Chapter 17: It's Drink O'clock
" Of course." Rose said. "I'm actually glad I was able to make it in time for his birthday. Once I finished my training I traveled nonstop to come here."
"Excellent!" Shinju said excitedly. "Jin will be so thrilled when he sees you!" She looked up at the clock to see that it was 5pm. "It's already 5pm! My how time flies I better get everything ready for the party." Rose offered to help but Shinju refused her help. "You our are guest. Besides you just got here so take this time to rest." Shinju said as she walked out of the office. Now it was just Rose and Katsuo there in the office. Katsuo then pulled out a bottle of sake with two cups from his bottom drawer of his desk. He placed each cup in front of them and as he pour sake in each cup he asked, "You're 20 years old Right Rose?"
Rose answered, "Yes sir." Katsuo nodded and spoke, "Good that makes you legal to drink. Let's drink in celebration of Jin's birthday and you coming back home." They both grabbed a cup and clink their cups and drank. Rose's throat burned as the sake went down her throat to the point it her eyes watered but as the burning went away it left a sweet after taste. Rose spoke, " *cough*, What is this?"
Katsuo chuckled, " It's called, 'Sweet Dragon'. Tastes good right?" He pours more in both their cups. Rose nodded in agreement even though this was her first time drinking any alcoholic beverage it was pretty good. As they drank, Katsuo explained to her what she missed while she was gone the past 11 years.
---- 9p.m. The Birthday Party ----
The party had already begun outside in the backyard. The whole pack and some rogues who go to the school also came to celebrate Jin's birthday. Jin was with his friends and mate, they were talking when his mother walked up too him and asked, "Jin have you seen your father?" Jin shook his head side to side. "He must still be in his office. I'll go get him. When we come back will sing Happy birthday" Shinju left and headed towards the office. Once she was there she knocked on the door but no one answered. So, she open the door and what she saw made her speechless. She saw seven empty bottles of sake on the desk and her husband chugging down a bottle, Rose was chanting, "Chug, Chug, Chug!" Once he was done he slammed down the bottle on his desk and then he handed Rose a full bottle of sake and said, "There's still time to back out. There's no shame in admitting defeat to the champion."
Rose grabbed the bottle and smirk, "I'll make you eat your own words. Ha!" Then she started chugging down the sake. Once she was done she slammed down the bottle on the desk. Both their noses and cheeks were flushed red showing that they were drunk. Rose mocked, "You were saying?" Katsuo spoke, "Tsk. I was saying whoever admits defeat or passes out is the loser." He poured more sake in each of their glasses.
Shinju finally spoke, "What is going on here?" They both jumped in shock and looked at her then Katsuo spoke, "Honey--," but Shinju stopped him, "Don't honey me. Do you not know what time it is?" Katsuo and Rose looked at each then back her and they spoke at the same time in a serious voice, "It's drink o'clock!" Then they both laugh hysterically. Shinju then smiled brightly but when they saw that instead for feeling warmth from that smile they felt fear and Shinju spoke very gently, "Well since y'all enjoy being here y'all can stay here." Shinju then left and closed the door. They sighed in relief until they heard the door lock.
Rose spoke, " Did she just lock us in?" Katsuo spoke confidently, "Don't worry I have a spare key." He looked where he hide his spare key but it wasn't there. Then he started looking around the whole office then looked at Rose and said, "She took the spare key." Rose in shock, "How was she able to take the key?" Katsuo sat back down, depressed. Rose ask, "Why are you sad?" Katsuo spoke with despair, " I won't be able to be with my mate tonight. It's gonna be a long night." Rose spoke comforting, "There, there she won't stay mad at you forever." Katsuo the spoke, "You are also stuck in here too." Rose just stared at him. He explained, "You won't see Jin." Rose dropped her head and she too fell into depression. Katsuo sighed and said, "Well what's done is done. Let's just drown our sorrows away." Rose nodded sadly and they drank the night away.
Meanwhile as Shinju was walking away from the office and exiting the hallway she saw Jin coming towards her and ask, "Did you find dad?" She smiled but it caused a shiver to run down his back, she spoke, "Yes I did. Apparently he got caught up in some business so he can't come. Now why don't we go to the party." Jin knew that she was angry at his father for what reason he didn't know but wisely followed his mom as they both went back outside. The party continued without a hitch.
