Chapter 5: Chapter 5: I'll Always Protect You
In the middle of the woods
There was a lake clear the you can see the moon's reflection on it and it was calm not even a ripple disturbed it. By the edge of the lake Rose was sitting, looking up at the moon, she hugged her right leg close to her chest and her left leg laid stretched out on the ground. 'I hope Jin is ok.' She thought. She looked down and with her left hand pulled out a small black square box out of her pocket. It was Jin's birthday present. She sighed and placed it back in her pocket then placed her chin on top of her right knee. and just stared at the lake. She stayed there for awhile until she figured it was time to go home.
As she was about to get up she heard a twig snapped. She quickly looked at the direction she heard and brought up her guard and waited. Her eyes widen in shock as she saw Jin stumble out of the trees. When their eyes locked on each other she could see he was almost black except his right arm and the right side of his face. The left of his face looked part wolf and his left eye was purple and his right was silver. She knew she should feel fear but all she could feel was worry as he fell down.
"Jin!" She yelled as she ran toward him. Once she reached him she kneeled down and carefully flipped him over to his back and leaned over him to make sure he was still breathing. She gently with her hands on both sides of his face and called, "Jin wake up !" He groan and slowly open his eyes and ask, "Rose?"
"Yes it's me." She answered. Jin sighed with relief it was really her and not a mirage. Jin said, "I-I'm sorry." Rose sadly said, "Jin..." before she could continue he said, "I failed to control the wolf. I couldn't make him submit to me and now I'm going to die." He looked away from her. " I know your confused as this isn't a normal wolf transition, I must look like a monster and your probably scared of me but I just wanted to see you at least one last time. I hope you could forgive." Rose was shocked but with a determination she grabbed his face and made him look at which caused him to be shocked.
"Jin I am not scared of you. I never have been and never will be." She said. Jin look in her eyes and saw the truth in her eyes but he still doubted, "Even though I'm a wolf me and my family are cursed by the goddess with this darkness making us MONSTERS! Of our own kind." He yelled, "How can you stand by my side and not feel disgusted by me or even hate me?! Everyone else does!"
'If you are cursed then what does that make me damned?' Rose thought. Then she smiled, 'Fine so be it!' She said to Jin , "So?" Jin just looked at her confused. "Others may see you a monster but I don't. All I see is you Jin and nothing more. I feel neither hate or disgust. Only happiness when I am by your side." Jin started crying at her words and was felled with warmth. "Besides doesn't everyone have darkness in them?" Jin was about to speak she continued, "Without darkness there is no light. Without light there is no darkness. Instead of trying to control the darkness and making the wolf submit why not accept it Jin?"
"But if I accept it, it will take over." He said.
"Just because you accept doesn't mean it will take over. Jin the way I see it this darkness is a part of you just like the wolf is your other half. Stop rejecting yourself Jin." Jin looked at her surprised.
"I'm scared." He finally said.
" It's ok to be scarred. " Rose said.
"What if I become a monster? " He asked. 'What if you come to hate and fear me?' he thought.
As if Rose could read his mind she said softly, "Even if you do become a monster I will never leave your side Jin. I am after all your best friend!" then she thought, ' If you become a monster then I'll just become a demon. '
"Promise?" Jin asked. Rose answered, "I promise. "
Then Jin slowly closed his eyes and said to the wolf " I accept you." as all his worries and fears disappeared. Rose looked over Jin and saw that what covered Jin black was starting to disappear. Once all the black dissapeared she heard his bones snapping and reshaping as fur started to spread out all over his body. She took a couple of steps back to give him some space.
A couple of minutes passed where once Jin laid was a small black wolf cub laying down. Its fur was black as the night, it looked like silk and so soft she want to run her fingers through his fur but held back. Once she figured Jin was done she took a step forward but just as she did the wolf eyes open and instead of seeing silver eyes. The eyes where purple mixed with silver it was so mesmerizing. Jin looked down too see instead of his hands were black paws. 'I did it!' he thought excitedly. He slowly stood up and was going to take a step but stumbled and fell instead. Rose couldn't hold it in and laughed. Jin looked at Rose and glared at her but when Rose saw that he looked like a little puppy and couldn't help but laugh harder clutching her stomach. Jin huffed and tried to get up but all of a sudden he felt two hands around him picking him up. He looked to see it was Rose.
Rose said, "Don't push yourself. Since it's your first shift you will be in a bit of pain and should get use to it in a bit. Until then I'll carry you back to your house and your parents can help you." Jin could only nod as Rose could not understand him if he tried to talk as she was not part his pack.
Rose looked at Jin and smiled as she knew what he wanted to ask. "We can't stay here any longer it's to dangerous and we are not to far from your pack. Besides your parents are probably stick with worry. You should rest I'll wake you up when we are at your house ok?" Rose asked. Jin nodded and rested his head on her chest and listened to her heart beat. It was so calming as he slowly went to sleep. When Rose saw he was asleep she held him closer to her and started walking. As she walk through the woods she thought, 'We should be there in about an hour and half if nothing comes up.' Just when she finished thinking that she heard a growl from her left side, when she looked she saw a giant brown wolf stalking towards them and growling showing its fangs with drowl dripping out of his mouth.
Rose looked down at Jin to make sure he didn't wake up and then looked back at the wolf and noticed he was a rogue and said, "Leave and I won't kill you." The wolf started circling them and just bark as if he was laughing at her. Then without a second to spare the wolf lounge at her and she said in a cold voice, "I see. Then die." When the wolf was an inch away Rose had disappeared and reappeared behind the wolf. The wolf was shock and was going to turn around when blood started spraying out of the wolf all over his body and without the wolf realizing it he was dead. Rose looked coldly at the now dead wolf and when she looked at Jin her gazed turned so soft and gentle showing no trace of the coldness she once held. She was making sure no blood was on him and she looked at her left hand that was dripping of blood from the dead wolf she raised it to her mouth and started licking it til there was not a drop left. Rose continued walking and thought, ' Don't worry Jin I will always protect you.'
