Chapter 33: The mummy inside the coffin
"For someone who seemed to hate it when I touched the coffin, you've sure changed a lot."
"I don't care brat, just open this lid!"
Raising an eyebrow, Axel scoffed and said, "When you're requesting something, your voice shouldn't sound like you're ordering me, little girl."
"Don't test my patience brat! I'll blow myself up and kill you along with me!"
"Humph! Go ahead. I always wanted to see how strong of an attack my body can withstand."
When Axel said those words, it wasn't just his fake bravado but rather he truly meant those words.
As someone who always possessed a natural curiosity towards the unknown, Axel despite possessing a near Immortal body always wanted to test and see what it's limits were.
And since the last time before he fell unconscious he sensed the presence of Xuannu near him, even if he got injured he was sure that she'd come and help him out due to which he guessed that now was the best opportunity to test it out.
Sensing that he wasn't lying from just the tone of his voice, the Goddess inside the coffin turned silent and said, "Open the lip if you want me to support you, young one. If not, keep it closed. I'm sure that there are many others who would be willing to open this coffin even if you don't."
Since she went ahead and put it like that, Axel didn't bother playing around anymore and placed his hand on the golden coffin.
Sliding the lid a little, he suddenly asked, "Will this coffin disappear after I remove the lid?"
"Does that matter right now?"
Gathering all the patience possible, the Goddess did her best to not let him get on her nerves.
"Of course. Do you know how much money I can earn from selling such a huge coffin made of pure gold?"
"If you think that money is more valuable than my support, go ahead and do it."
Listening to the Goddess, Axel other than sensing the obvious difference in her temperament through her words and tone guessed that she was changing.
It might be possible that due to just having woken up, her previous personality seemed like a childish brat.
Right now though she seemed like a mature woman who was as stable as a rock.
"You now sound like a Goddess."
Not bothered by the words since not just her powers, but even her true personality and memories were slowly coming back to her, the Goddess no longer seemed eager or restless.
Thinking that it would've been better if she had recovered until this point before he began talking to Meili, Axel pushed the lid completely aside and revealed the mummified woman who was calmly resting inside the coffin.
All that was visible other than the bandages on the mummy was her tightly shut eyes.
"Ara ara... What is this? Are you going to keep your eyes shut until the one you want comes here?"
"Yes."
Hearing the gentle voice despite her lips not moving, Axel found himself turning calm all the while knowing that the woman he was looking at wasn't capable of using her powers.
"Why bother? Am I not good enough for you?"
"You might be someone very great and even possess a great future ahead of you, but I don't want to choose someone that doesn't belong to the Egyptian mythology for a second time."
"Ahhhh... "
Sounding his acknowledgement, Axel said, "The first one was Osiris, the second one was the hawk dude, and the last one was someone from out of your mythology. Is that why you're trying to choose someone of your choice this time?"
"Since you understand, please close the lid and leave."
Smirking a little, Axel shool his head and rejected the proposal without the slightest hesitation.
"I cannot do that, lady. You are someone who I need to be around me at all times to hide my identity."
By now Axel had figured out why Hestia wanted him to obtain this Goddess's unconditional support.
It was not just due to how resourceful she was, but also due to wanting to hide his existence.
All that was needed for any God or Deity to find out about the secret of his existence was a single look. Therefore, having a Goddess stay near him at all times would help him a lot in disguising the essence of the five Goddesses as her own.
Feeling curious as to what the boy meant, the Goddess despite not having recovered her entire strength and still being incapable of using them since she hadn't yet opened her eyes and seen the one she would support, the woman began trying her best to use her senses and find out as much about the boy that was standing beside her coffin.
Unfortunately, even though her senses barely managed to leave the confines of the coffin, they completely disappeared as soon as they came in contact with Axel's body.
"So mysterious.... Some Deity is protecting your existence... "
Feeling even more curious to find out about the one who opened the coffin, the mummy almost opened her eyes but stopped since she really didn't want to support someone who didn't belong to the Egyptian mythology for a second time.
"Come on... Don't be like that beauty... Open your eyes and see me.... I can swear that I'm very handsome.... You definitely won't regret looking at me... "
Failing to make the mummy open her eyes despite trying his best to lure her into it, Axel decided to use his special weapon.
