CHAPTER 5
***
(Lilliana)
I summoned a knife from a nearby table that swiftly landed on my palm. I gathered all my strength to stand and slit my left palm. I let the blood ooze out and control it in mid-air.
I know the residues are not enough but I can make it. I need to make it in time.
"Stop, Lilliana! You are killing yourself!" my grandmother, Elder Averyl, commanded.
I gave her a smile that didn't reach my eyes," I made a promise. We keep promises, don't we?'
I released my blood that was floating mid-air to the ground forming a circle that surrounds me.
I started my chant as runes form:
Full moon
Night
Sundown
Deep forest
Burning cabin
Broken barrier
I command thee,
Bring me to the one
I made a promise.
I felt my energy slowly draining. I close my eyes too late that a stray tear rolled down my cheeks. It hurts. Everything hurts. It felt like someone was ripping you apart piece-by-piece.
I opened my eyes just in time a light came out from the dark sky and enveloped my body. It was too late for the Elders to reach me as I vanished in a blink of an eye.
***
(Unknown)
I looked behind me and saw a light coming from the sky. I covered my eyes as a wave of wind come towards my direction. I ran to the direction it landed hoping it was her. What I saw didn't disappoint me. It was indeed Lilliana that came crashing from the night sky. Her body was covered with blood and runes. It must have taken her everything to get here.
I helped her sit up, she was shivering. Her complexion was not the same the last time I saw her.
I tensed up when I heard faint footsteps coming from the West. They just won't stop, huh.
"Stay here. I will handle everything tonight." I whispered in her ear and slowly lay her on the ground. I looked at her intently as she gave a weak nod and that's when I bolted towards the direction of the enemy.
I let Anastasia head South-East, it was much safer for her to head that way. I lunged towards the first person I saw and rip its head out making them stop on their tracks. I sprang up from my feet and landed on a nearby branch of a tree.
They must have expected the company just by telling how many of them were here. I can't believe I was dealing with my kind.
'They are not our kind!' A voice said in the back of my head.
'Yes, right.' I said with a hint of duh in my tone.
I dropped the head of their comrade making sure it would land in front of them. As I expected, they hissed.
I felt excited with their reaction that it made me smile with satisfaction. 'Oh, that rhymed.' I chirped.
'Focus!' she said, I mentally rolled my eyes.
'It's not like we could die.' I used the duh-tone on her again, but as much as I am delighted to tease her I need to get rid of these γυμνός (gymnós).
I lunged towards them and that's how the battle began.
I snapped one the guys head and let his limp body fall to the ground. Vampires move in a flash that human eyes can't notice our movements. One second we're standing and the second they blink was gone., but in this case, it is my kind that I am dealing with.
Two guys matched my movement, one held me in place and the other tried leaving a scratch on my neck. I kicked his knee and stepped on his head which made the man who was holding me in place loosen his grip. I made my momentum faster than theirs and ripped his lung out.
I retreated for a second and hissed. I felt something oozing out of my arm, must be the guy who held me, I didn't notice him sinking his nails. Before I could heal, a number of them lunged forward, this time they were faster than the previous one, faster than mine. Putting into action how my father trained me, I matched their movement pulling out a knife bestowed to me by my Mother. I plunged it into one of them, one of my hand strangling the other. The one that I plunged the knife with turned into ashes, I threw the one I'm strangling towards the others making their speed decrease.
Some were ahead some were behind but they have the same amount of speed in their movements. I ran with speed to the direction of where they came from. I need them far away from Lilliana.
She outdid her self this time and that is a bad thing. A really bad one.

After what felt like hours of fighting that only lasted for half an hour, I made my way back to where I left my friend. I won't deny I was heaving so bad that I feel like letting myself drop to the ground. I leaned on one of the trees before getting back up and continue my way to where she was.
I froze on my spot when I saw her standing in front of Lilliana's body. I leat out a breath that I didn't know I was holding in when I saw that Lilliana is still alive. She must be sleeping.
"Who do we have here?" a voice that I despise said.
"What do you want?" my voice was strained from lashing out on her.
"Is that how you greet your sister?" she said trying to be funny, but I could see in her eyes she was dying to kill me for disrespecting her.
"I don't have a sister." I stated, "My sister is dead. You killed her, remember?" I could never forgive her for what she did. "You killed Alana all for a throne that is not yours."
"You despise me because of that? You should thank me for taking the throne. This time we don't need to bow to anyone, not even to the elders!" I know she is trying to make me understand her side. Yes, I do understand her but not in a way that I will tolerate her doings.
"I have many reasons to hate and despise a creature like you! You don't and will never deserve the throne!" tears were slowly brimming my eyes, I was beyond angry that I am on the verge of ripping her throat.
"Fine." her tone flat she stared into my eyes and said, "I will just kill everyone to get you on my side."
For the first time, I did not hesitate to lunge toward her. All I see was red and the second we stopped on our tracks we were both bleeding due to the damage we had done to each other.
She stood straight, "Well, my job here is done. See you, sister." there was a hint of disgust on her tone when she said the last word. She needs me for something and I will never let her get in my head if she thinks I'll give myself to her.
I let my guards down when I don't feel her presence. Now the only present that I feel was mine and Lilliana's. I crouched down and leveled her head to my arm.
"You've outdone yourself." I whispered, "You need to go, you're body is far from healing if you stay here any longer." I continued.
"I need to keep an eye on her." she was breathing heavily. She needs to rest to regain her self.
"I will be your eye. I will handle things when you are gone. You need to heal and we know this is not where you can heal yourself." I said convincingly where I am terrified myself. I have never gone out of the forest, ever since Anastasia's pack got ambushed I've been keeping a close eye on her. I watched her grow up into the lady that she is today and I will continue guarding her until my last breath because I made an oath to protect her at all costs.
"I'm sorry...I'm sorry for not getting here on time." my heart clenched seeing her in this state. I have never seen her cry and breakdown like this.
"Let it all out, lily. But let me tell you that none of this is yours or my fault. This must be all of the Moon Goddess's plan to let Anastasia into the light. It has been a long time now and everything will be revealed whether we liked it or not." I explained and this time I didn't stop myself from the tears that have been trying to escape.
I adjusted her to sit. I felt sorry not for her but my self because I couldn't do anything to numb the pain she is feeling right now. We may have not been in good terms the first time we met but because of the incident that happened to Anastasia's it made us come into terms together and now we are treating each other as a friend.
We sat there for a few hours talking with each other. We exchanged words about our experiences when we were away from each other. We laughed and cherished the moment because we knew we will be going on different paths and won't be seeing each other for a while. I stopped laughing and let out a sigh. "You know, when I got here I never thought that I would end up being face to face with the woman I once looked up to. The woman that left a deep scar in me because of her greed for power." A stray tear escaped, I smiled but it did not reach my eyes.
Lily wrapped her arms hugging me. We stayed like that for a little while before standing up. I helped her up and gave her one last hug before nodding.
"I will see you on the other side, Alessandra." she bowed which I returned and said, "We will be waiting, Lilliana."
I stepped back as an indication that I am ready to leave. She opened her gateway and gave me one last look before stepping in. I was now alone, I looked up and noticed the sun was setting.
I heard humans believe vampires get burned under the sun. I highly disagree with that because it is not vampires that get burned and turns into ashes, it is those who are gymnós.
I don't know what lies beyond this forest but I am ready to take it all in. As much as how terrified I feel, I couldn't imagine Anastasia being alone and having no one to protect her.
Some of you must not be fond of a story that has a lot of points of view from different characters. The reason I am writing this note is to explain what is going on. The thing is, I plan on giving other characters their spotlight in this book through projecting their point of view to give them exposure. Why? I plan on writing their lines of a story in a different book shortly. So as of now, I will be giving a bit of exposure. I am writing this to avoid confusion to my readers.
