shú néng shēng qiǎo - practice gives birth to great skill
"9th Prince, I heard you are leaving?" Murong LiWang asked when she saw Xue ShiMin, while was seated on top on the guest residence rooftop, with his chin propped on his left hand.
"Yes, I will leave tomorrow morning to Sheng," Xue ShiMin had just walked into his house in the General's residence, when he felt a presence on the rooftop.
Xue ShiMin knew sometimes the general's heir came to check on him, especially when he did his martial art exercises within his own courtyard. However, they never spoke to each other as the general's deputy would always accompany the young heir.
"Hmm..." Murong LiWang was just thinking what to reply when HeiYing came behind her shadows.
Murong LiWang : Sigh, father always worry too much.
Murong LiWang unconsciously patted Xun BingBing gently on her chest, earning her a grumpy 'yelp'.
Somehow HeiYing was very sensitive and would glance over his young master's chest before quickly looking away for being inappropriate. No matter how much Xun BingBing was being careful around HeiYing, not even poking out of Murong LiWang's clothing, she had sensed that the mortal knew of her presence.
"Shall we see whether your skills have improved over the months?" Murong LiWang leapt down to ground gracefully.
"This prince shall comply," Xue ShiMin readied himself and waited for the boy.
"Good. Watch the moves!" Murong LiWang quickly dealt her moves, making Xue ShiMin deftly evade her moves, without able to find an opening to attack her.
After 15 or so moves, Murong LiWang cried aloud, "sticks!" and immediately HeiYing threw down sticks to the prince first, before throwing another stick to his young master. He was used to her picking and training fights with the other shadow guards back when the young master was growing up in the capital.
Murong LiWang and the 9th prince started to use the sticks in place of swords, with Xue ShiMin mostly parrying. The two finally stopped when Murong LiWang flew backwards and threw the stick to side.
"9th prince, you held yourself back," Murong LiWang stated in a tone, that one would not know whether he was unhappy or unaffected.
"No, it's the general's heir skills that are above mine. This prince already know that you are my savior in capital, and..." Xue ShiMin answered.
"Wait, wait, you recognize me? How? I thought you called me old master last time?" Murong LiWang spoke towards the rooftop and pointed at herself, "HeiYing, I thought I switched mask to the fox one that night?"
"..." All the young master's mask were all cute animal masks...how many people constantly wear cute animal mask? It really doesn't take a genius to guess the identity for the wearer.
Xue ShiMin was about to ask if the heir was also the one who had saved him many years ago at the countryside but he was already cut off by the latter.
"Well, this young heir feels although you have improved, you still lack the powers to protect yourself. Hmm... here, why don't I teach you some of the moves I have learnt before." Murong LiWang smack her hands together as if she found the perfect solution.
"Please hold on. Can I ask why heir is doing this? Is this the generosity of the General?" Xue ShiMin was trying to grasp the situation, of why the heir had saved him then now wanting to train him?
It must be the general's idea right? Has the general been watching him? But why? Does the general have a mountainous ambition and want to use him as a chess piece?
"Hey? Hey!" Murong LiWang skipped towards the 9th prince and waved in front of his face, trying to distract him from overthinking.
"Aiya why do you read too much of this situation and complicate things? I just want you to be safe and cannot abide to see if you get bullied ah. Really you," Murong LiWang wagged her finger when she saw the frowning face of Xue ShiMin, his eyes flickering with uncertainties.
Just what is going on with his head right now? The 9th prince's gaze looked so calculating, so unlike the God of Lightning she thought of him of. Other than sharing the same features, Murong LiWang could not believe that this was the same person or was this the presdestined character to play out his fate written by the Director of Fate and Destinies, SiMing?
"How about this? Take it that my ShiFu (teacher) is the one who wants to pass down some of his skills." Murong LiWang did not wait for the 9th prince's reply and quickly grabbed the stick in the 9th prince's hand and said, "Watch carefully as I myself have to practice these steps many times and still have not perfected even the second stance yet," Murong LiEang proceeded to display the stance from what her great grandfather, Lim HeQi had taught her of the Heavenly Maiden Hundred Flower Sword Strike.
Xue ShiMin was astounded by Murong LiWang beautiful fluid moves, the stances seemed more suited for a female but on the child , it was very natural. As much as Xue ShiMin tried to concentrate himself, he was still distracted by his previous thoughts.
"That was the first stance, can you show me what you remembered from watching my moves?" Murong LiWang stopped and fanned herself with her hands. The weather was still chilly but after all the movements, she still break into a sweat.
Being a mortal is hard ah, the human skin is so thin and weak. When it's cold, wear extra clothes, when it's hot, you still have to wear the layers of clothing but the sweat sticks to your skin and clothing, making it extra uncomfortable.
"Can Murong Gongzi share the name of this martial art?" Xue ShiMin asked.
"It's Heavenly Mai...Eh...," I can't give him the feminine title. "It's Heavenly Hundred ...Heavenly Hundred Sword Strike!" Sounds so much better than the one great grandfather named.
"Impressive name," Xue ShiMin agreed, making Murong LiWang happily nodding her head, happy she has renamed it too.
"However, this prince is untalented, I only remembered some of the moves but I cannot complete the entire stance. How about young heir follow me to Sheng's kingdom and slowly impart the skill your ShiFu wants me to learn?" Xue ShiMin kept his face impassive while he asked shrewdly, waiting for Murong LiWang's answer.
