Chapter 4: The water curse

Abha took off her clothes and stepped into the shower. The cold water felt good against her skin. She began to massage soap into her skin. Going in circles to make sure to cover everything. She sighed.

She remembered a time that she'd been showering and Jason has come home from a long day at work. He'd heard her in the shower and decided to join her... stop that! She thought. Stop thinking about Jason. It's not healthy.

She rinsed off the soap and began to massage shampoo into her hair. This felt good because she'd felt so gross and a big part of that was because of her hair.

Suddenly the water felt different. Less cold and somehow thicker. She turned and screamed. The water had turned to blood. The stuff was spraying out of the nozzle the same way the water had been. It was getting all over her. She tried to open the shower door but it wouldn't budge. Suddenly a sucking noise came from the drain. It had clogged. The thick warm blood began to rise. Fist to her ankles. Then mid calf. Then her knee. It was filling fast and she had no way out.

She banged on the shower door, hoping that this would somehow open it. The blood was to her upper thighs now. She thought about breaking the glass, but there was nothing she could use, shampoo bottles can't break glass. The blood was up to her stomach now. For a brief moment she wondered how the hell the blood wasn't leaking through the door. It was up to her chest now. She couldn't help it she screamed. She knew no one would hear her. Hell by the time someone found her she'd be a dead body covered in dry blood.

It was up to her throat now. She refused to let it go into her mouth. She decided to swim to the surface for as long and she could. Her head touched the top of the shower. The blood was still rising. She cried. She'd thought of a lot of ways to go over the years, but never drowning in blood. She lifted her head to the ceiling. The blood filled her ears, and framed her face in the warm liquid.

Suddenly the sucking noise was back, the blood shut off, and water began to spray again. As the blood water mixture began to drain she started in confusion. Soon she was standing on the floor again. No signs that the blood had ever been there, except for the blood all over her. And even that was rinsing off in the water. She realized she was shaking. She gently touched the door and it moved. Oh sure now you move but when I'm being drowned by blood... she thought, annoyed.

She cleaned herself again and quickly got out of the shower. Still shaking she dried herself off and got into pajamas. She thought about setting up her sheets, but what was the point? There was no way she'd be able to sleep tonight.
