Chapter 72: Sea of Red

3 days earlier

He laid still, freakishly looking up at his 'mother'. His face flooding like a broken dam, it's cracks of led splintering made it a clean kill, staining his shirt and greasing his chin as each second, he gasped, crackling at his own death.

"Funny isn't it... how the black guy goes out first..."

Verda looks at him in tears, knowing how within his rather ridiculous attitude, he was extremely unfunny. Becoming even worse to tolerate at what he does. But with Nemo carrying him by his arms, she could only tearfully be glad that she had a brother to be with. Even if he kinda sucks. Perhaps being adopted was the best thing to ever happen to her and Harold.

"Nah... Look brother... Rest well..."

She watched as his bright curious eyes became wallowed by reality. His hands now grasping the air, listless and tired. Valiant but lost. Sulking as his young life was taken away by an angry squabble too political to be discussed. But looking ahead, breathing a sigh of disappointment, unless they become someone they used to know, they have to escape.

They clinged to the walls, hiding in the cover of darkness despite their sore injuries. They only knew the rough location. Frightened at the abyss of the darkness and dim lights which echoed playfully with their eyes, playing by the columns and the destitute silence of the shadows. Through the sirens, blaring loudly at their escape. Taunting every move of their near impossible escape.

"Here they are!"

Lead flies through the corridors, ringing their ears, vibrating terrified at their overreaction. Barely able to keep themselves stable as the men predicted their aim, shooting through the air attempting a fatal blow. But each amateur attempt was denied by Nemo, somehow tanking all of the shots. Their special abilities somehow completely unrecognised. Ignorant with their type of bullet as they seethed in anger. Yelling like hooligans and causing more damage to the fortress than their 'two weeks' here.

Shane has no clue on the dominatrix's whereabouts, last seeing her specifically put down. But through the flashes of red. The order had not been retracted. What was she even doing at the moment? She gulped, pressured and cornered. Watching the signs which barely appeared throughout the building. Engulfing everyone into a frenzy of misunderstanding and misdirection.

'This way!"

They hastily scrambled. Following Shane with their shoes barely able to keep themselves together. Screeching through the slippery corridor amongst angry men, still grasping for a solution to kill them. Completely unwilling to keep to the standards of prison protocol. Nemo barely able to grab onto the lifeless corpse, his hands flinging about like a ragdoll. Barely able to keep himself together. Nemo looks at him, rather unsatisfied with her abilities. Grabbing him tighter as it became diluted with goo. Staining her palms as men screamed up ahead.

"Put your hands up! There is no escape!"

Their weapons out in defiance, flashing through the eyes of red, gleaming eagerly at their targets, now completely surrounded. Sergio looks at them, noticing their improved set of armour coated with what seemed like special acid. Bubbling through the unfiltered dark smog which began to grip hard on her neck, strangling her aggressively.

"Well Shane... They always said people can change..." She sliced her smoldering whip through the smoke, vainly revealing herself and her men surrounding them. Blinding them at their terrible mistake with their arms out wide, showcasing their scars and wounds as she continued, "But I have a job to do."

She gleefully threw her whip at Sergio, slamming down hard onto her broken skin, barely able to hold on as she is flipped over. Thrown down to the ground face first and pulled. Her assailant laughing at her plight as men fired through the smog, pelting every single piece of led at the white slimy blob. Each led carefully slowed amongst the thickness. But even her presence isn't doing enough at the torrent of bullets.

"She is mine!!! Flank them! Make sure they don't leave this prison!"

Sergio's skin burned through the ground. Each contact with the smooth floor seemingly trying to rub her off the edge. Peeling her senses dry. She grabs onto the ground, barely letting her go as her fingers struggled under pressure.

"Not today!"

With all her fingers on the floor, the ground began to tremble. Shaking the floor violently amongst falling guards, all of whom failed to grip. Struggling to shoot and clumsily yelling for their positions. A position which they should be fired from. She looks at the dominatrix, tripping over from her determined stance, extremely angry yet determined. Holding on her whip defiantly, continuously dragging her down leg first. Her face licking at the prospect.

However unlike everyone, the slime blob, fully intact and filled from top to bottom with bullets, slowly crawled across the falling panels with ease. Completely unfazed by her strong earthquakes. Though as Sergio stared inside what was her stomach, she is even more impressed that Shane and Verda are able to inhabit within her. But with such skill, she was slightly pissed that she could have done that this whole time and escape. Saving everyone from the start.

"Get in!"

Her bloated face barely allowed her to talk, nearly a mumble too soft to hear amidst the crackles of flame. Her metal chip still visible in her mouth. Rather well hidden but still overshadowed by her white and pale skin, barely translucent enough to see two silhouettes. She clambered into the blob, the whip breaking upon contact which angered the dominatrix. Slowly falling back amongst the tremors tearing the fortress apart. It was over.

They slowly but carefully clambered onto the speed boat as the waves rocked sky high from the loud trembles, slamming onto the walls violently, each boat drifting away from the docks which tore itself apart from the storm. The lady cursed, watching their own boats being out of reach. Her men looked, unconfident of driving themselves into the deadly waters. Their rifles ineffective, out of range from the white, pale blob who had stolen their boat. They had escaped.

"One word... I'm not a fan of being in a blob... But hey if it works..."

Sergio looks at her impressed, choking on her own blood as she shrugs off the white slime covering her from head to toe, dripping down the boat like diluted white chocolate syrup. Sloshing about as the waves as it began to calm without her touch. Wishing there was rain to help wash away her pain. She looks at Shane, tugging the ignition as it comes alive, looking at Sergio, gravely hurt from her stay. She peered away from her, hiding her emotions as her eyes began to become teary. Her mistake now a mockery to her name.

She slams on the throttle, speeding the group away to safety. The light towers completely failing to detect them as they looked at Lino's resting place one last time. A plain cobblestone wall, completely featureless amongst several modern towers, painted in a completely faded hue and what seemed like a museum dully painted in peach. Completely out of place if not for the pillars which extended down to the bottom, now filled with algae and in complete disrepair. Still wondering what Lino would had done not bringing him back.

They quickly docked, washing themselves onto shore amongst the beach, barely able to understand what was happening. Verda's eyes looked on, hollowed, lacking any sleep and food she could dream. Barely noticing an abandoned meat factory amongst the trees. They carefully laid the stricken corpse, scooping up the soil quickly as Verda slashed a 'H' on the bark. Barely able to detail it as they left for shelter. Sulking at the lack of time.

They wandered slowly, Sergio barely able to walk, slowly carried by Shane as she choked out more blood. Trembling in the cold weather. Every sound was against them, their presence slowly descending them into madness as daylight faded. She didn't know if the news had been broken to the public. Their perception of them completely stirred and diluted as the trek to the factory was made even harder. Their lungs possibly unable to hold themselves together. Unsure of medical facilities in the area. If there were any.

Shane peered into the distance. The doors locked shut, rusting to pieces from neglect. It's faded bright blue stoned from age, peeling itself apart as it's skin fell to the ground like ash. It's gated windows broken and ripped apart, taken by scalpers to earn whatever cash they could find. Shane looked at Nemo who crushed the door lock, somehow dislodging it almost instantly as it falls onto the gravel with a thud, letting themselves to a room filled with spray paint and eerie quietness.

The inside of the place was dreary, filled with nothing but years of dust. The machinery had seemly been moved, now filled with puddles of stagnant water which dripped to a large drain in the centre. Barely illuminated by the only window in the building, safe by the rooftops amongst large lamps, somehow still filled with electricity. It's metal bars rusting and beginning to corrode from age. Barely coming together tightly to do it's job.

They clambered up the rusty metal stairs, each use of the handles creaked and hissed. Frightening them of their next step. It's foundation barely holding the only room together, an office room with it's furniture and tools taken apart a long time ago. All except for a stuffed bed filled with questionable stains. Further into the toilet, it's washroom and shower laid somehow intact. She wandered carefully, spotting the lights and electricity still active. It's shower seems to be fitted with a heater. Still functioning properly as she activated the switch. Hissing as water flowed out steaming hot, lingering silently into the drain with hardly any murky dilution. She had no idea why the men and women who trespassed into the place not use or taken apart the shower earlier. But it was perfect.

She laid Sergio to rest amongst the tearful duo as she closed the doors quietly, wandering back down to lock the door from the inside, still suffering from her injuries. Although she is somewhat thankful that the injuries she suffered wasn't as bad as Sergio's. Although as she try to thrust her hands, her abilities she once had wouldn't budge. Each twist of her hand instead seemingly halting her advance. Perhaps what that dominatrix explained was true. She had lost all of her powers. Now simply just a mere mortal violated by the experiments in their childhood.

She clamps the door handles with wood on the ground, locking the door for good. She slouched on the wall. Breathing a sigh of relief as she looked up by the glazed moonlight in disarray. Frustrated in finding a solution to medical aid, especially for Sergio who seems to have the most grave injuries. With them on the run, news would reach them soon. And by then they would be screwed. Their lives now to be paid with their own damned soul.

"Congratulations Energy Breaker. You are a criminal..."
