Chapter 3: The Light of Men

It was supposed to be the party that she wanted. She finally would get some rest and have fun. Sure her work was somewhat recognized by everyone, one of a hundred prodigies ready to help fight the threats of Sector A, all filled with sacks of money ready on the table. But all she really wanted a break from her strenuous work life. However her plans were all ruined, just like her dress. She watches the man scream at the officers, trying to explain his plight.

"Hey I helped that woman! Why am I being handcuffed?!? You son of a gun!"

The doors closed on him. He clamored onto the window, tapping for someone to hear him, to hear what he had to say, but nothing. The van scampered along as large flashes from cameras blind the now rising sun. The only thing stopping them were police officers, all of whom are loosely working for the Light of Men, blocking their path with their large hulking bodies.

The commotion is made louder as she spots the black Mercedes sedan arrive to inspect. She quickly regained her composure as a giant of a man emerges. Her boss, Alfred. He was old and wrinkly but his ferociousness still remains. She feel the atmosphere stiffen. Her muscles hardening and flexing up as she greeted him.

"Status on ground zero?" He asked her.

"This was unlike any other terrorist with superpowers, this thin- no monster seemed to have appeared right out off here." She pointed at the now charred ruined remains as weird dried out black sludge that smelled like onions dominated the scene. She watches on, seeing the two tents. One covering two portions of slumped dead body of a burnt man in his 30s. In front of him, a bedroom full of burnt debris and paper. Through the gaps, the sun shone on the burnt walls, revealing the only item remaining, a nearly charred picture of what looks like a Lamborghini Centernario. Nearby, the remains an old lady laid face down on the charred wooden floor. Her face still screaming from the large blast.

"I feel that we should tell the public the tru-" she made her statement when Alfred cuts her off, "No Shane. As much as this is a serious extraterrestrial threat, we must not worry the public any further. Especially since we are having a conflict right at our border with Sector B."

"But-" she tries to warn him about the impending danger Sector A faces but yet he cuts her again.

"No. We will cover this up as a explosion made by the gang, The Tribunals. Get it Shane? Now head back to headquarters." He glares at her, seemingly trying to warn her with her expression as she tries to glare back. But she knew who truly had the power. He watched as she shoots up into the sky with a blast of wind, to her workplace, The Light of Men.

The year is 2121. All of the nations are in disarray after the Two Year War, also known as the Third World War. However, even though the country did not start the war, the place had been fractured into three sectors. A sad thing to see, but as winners, they have the final say...

Ahead of her stood a proud tall cylindrical tower that houses and trains those blessed with powers and intellect to protect any country from any dangers after the Two Year War. Aptly named: The Light of Men. A redemption to be made after 'causing' the war. During the war and still to this day, they accepted anyone. Even if they did not have any powers at all. Though they can only join if they have an ability that helps them stand out, such as being a ace pilot. Which she is happy for them to do.

The glass paneling and oriental details inside were gleaming to the naked eye, showing off Sector A's power amongst the three states. The gardens and the luxurious porch made passerby amazed. It felt like a five star hotel, except lacking major features such as chandeliers and fancy couches. Helping it to stand out in the city of Sector A which had mostly been still reconstructing after the conflict ten years ago that fractured the diamond shaped continent of Oflip.

Right beside England. It was name 'Singapore's Brother' due to it's larger shape and similar looks from orbit. It was also the most high tech country in it's time. All now lost after war.

Nevertheless, when the organization launched, it's logo of three light rays piercing through a globe were now synonymous globally with justice, wit and prosperity. As they had claimed.

In the tower, many gaps formed around the building. Sections of at least ten floors in the tower built for landings for people capable of flight and machines, completely based off the designs from ancient anime Ernest Hugo had found back before the war. When Japan was unfortunately destroyed in a Super Tsunami and made inhabitable. She found it lazy however, considering they were ripping off large designs. Featuring a catapult, it is a fan for many air, robot and hero enthusiasts. Though she wondered why considering they only get to see the underside of the aircraft if not the feet of the robot and heroes, or maybe was for the naughty stuff. They still most likely won't see it anyway.

At the sight, she is reminded of her now ruined outfit she would have to probably wear for the next few hours. The itching probably worsening later on. Probably...

Through the large metal covers covered many floors of pipes and machines meant to clean the building. As they had claimed. No one was allowed up on these floors. Only staff at the top could do so. She sighed, wishing to see what was on these floors and suspicious of its activities.

They usually don't have a strict clothing code, helping others distinguish themselves. Although she wondered if it has become more of vanity than saving lives. All however had to wear the badge featuring its logo. Which she is proud of.

She then looks back, remembering how she simply awoke in a building filled with sterilized equipment. Made by the previous government to help others, especially when they started allow regular citizens to join the force. To bridge the gap between the regular and powerful amongst the three states in the largest continent on earth. But nowadays the group does nothing but aid in a war after they themselves decided to wage a conflict over the border between Sector B. All because of rights.

She frowns. What was the purpose of the organization then? Who were they supposed to be protecting? Just because of one man's feelings?

After she lands on the grey concrete at the landing zone at the 50th floor, she heads past tall, intimidating robots from the mass produced Ports to the ultra rare and bonkers Revels with large weapons being equipped and serviced all made for mostly Supers and normal people during the war. Mostly beast revered by everyone worldwide even though they are now used for anti-terrorism and police work. She sighs, heading up the long flight of stairs to her office. It was right above the landing platform but the place was windowless. Barely impossible to cope with the boredom wandering through the stale place. She avoids everyone, watching their movements as she sneaks onto her plain desk. Filled with nothing but Aluminium, plastic and fake wood in the middle of a corner amongst all the other workers, a mix of both the normal and the powerful. She hates her colleagues, they always get too nosy. For she is the only Super in the team. So she is almost always alone. But she was ok with it, as she had always been like that since she entered this place.

Next to a photo of her group she was in laid a government supplied computer sent to her. It was a boring piece of plastic screen encrypted and locked, theoretically 'unable to be hacked'.

She opens to quickly file in her report, the most boring part of her job. She recalls Alfred, saying how the fragmentation of safety must be protected. But her guts feel different. They ought to know, so that they won't feel the same as her. For what it had done to her family.

As she completes her report, a message on her phone popped out, she glances at it and smiled. If it wasn't her good old friend from Italy, Sergio. Sergio always know what she likes to do. It's weird how both of them clicked on their first day as kids despite Sergio not knowing how to speak English then. Was it because of their love of justice or was it because both names started with S? She may never know.

It amazes her how Sergio felt so nonchalant about nasty remarks about herself. She felt that it made her her, helps push harder to the top during workouts. It was no wonder Sergio was selected into special squads. Special teams with six members of men and women, all at the top of their fields to fight against terrorists. This achievement made Shane herself jealous since. Even though she was not selected by Alfred to be part of the teams, she was nevertheless glad to see her again.

"Hello it's me again, it's been some time since we had seen each other, but can we train together, later at 9?" Shane smiled widened as she hastily typed back, "YES."

" Alright see you later then! ;) "
