Chapter 65: Barakiel's Nightmare

Azazel had called Barakiel to investigate Satanael's group. After so many years, they had finally found clues to their location.

Satanael and his students, Abyss Team.

Abyss Team, also known as Nephilim Abyss and Those who Fell into the Abyss is an organization comprised of individuals with fierce Sacred Gears.

Each and every member of the Abyss Team has brutal Sacred Gears, which are not as powerful as the Longinus or even High Tier Sacred Gears but have some irreversible side effects.

What's worse is the personality of these boys and girls who are part of the Abyss Team. Like their Sacred Gears, their minds seem to be corrupted and deviant. That's why Grigori labelled them as dangerous and united them in a class under the most "sensible" teacher.

Who would have thought that Satanael would betray them...

In the end, the place where Grigori's traitors were believed to reside was nothing more than a decoy made by Satanael and his people.

When Barakiel returned home, he expected to be greeted once more by his beautiful wife and daughter. He loved those two women too much, and they were his most important supporters.

Who would have thought that after thousands of years, a human woman would become the pillar of his life?

He felt that something strange was happening. Barakiel felt uneasy, and this feeling was heightened when a smell of iron entered his nose.

"Aaaaah!"

That scream...

The voice from which the scream came was one that he himself had heard day after day for just over a decade.

"Mamaaa!"

Same scream again.

Now Barakiel had no doubt, that voice came from his daughter Akeno. Barakiel did not hesitate and threw himself into the Shrine.

He could not believe what was inside it.

There were many people inside, but they were all of no importance to Barakiel. The only thing that could enter his vision was the bloody body of his wife, Shuri.

"Shuri!"

Barakiel couldn't believe it. He had only been gone from his home for a few hours, how could this have happened?

He... he had promised that he would always protect Shuri and Akeno from danger.

But now, Shuri was dead in front of him.

"Argg... Aaaaaah!"

Barakiel let out all the anger and sadness that was compressed into that scream. He looked around and saw all the people gathered there.

They were many, they could be in their thirties, but they were all very weak. In fact, he saw a few bodies covered in blood lying in the hallway, probably the work of Shuri, obviously dead.

Shuri's body was covering Akeno's, Barakiel was clear on what he had to do now.

Protect his daughter and avenge Shuri.

With that thought in mind, Barakiel began sending lightning bolts to the people inside the Shrine.

These guys were very weak and were instantly eliminated by Barakiel.

Once they were all dead, he approached Shuri's inert body.

But someone got in his way.

"Akeno..."

It was his daughter, Himejima Akeno, who stood between him and his dead wife.

"Don't you dare come near Mommy!"

She was looking at him with hate. Like she was looking at a monster.

"It's your fault! It's your fault Mom's dead! Weren't you going to protect us forever? Why did Mom die? It's your fault! It's because of these dirty wings that they wanted to kill Mom! Get out! Die!"

......

"Shuri!"

Barakiel opened his eyes. In front of him was the wall of his room, that wall he saw every time he got up in the morning.

"Shhh"

A soft finger landed in his mouth, and another hand dragged him to the bed. Barakiel turned and saw his young wife lying beside him.

"You idiot, you'll wake up your daughter."

Barakiel pinched his cheek and proved that this was real.

Yes, this was his wife. She was the same person he had fallen in love with all those years ago.

"Big man, are you crying?"

Shuri ran her hand across Barakiel's face, erasing all trace of tears.

"A nightmare."

Barakiel answered honestly. Such was his character, he was direct and never hesitant. That was Barakiel, "the lightning of God".

"Ara-ara, aren't you too old to be having nightmares?" Shuri said to him with a provocative look.

Barakiel was silent, not responding to Shuri. This worried her, fearing that Barakiel had not caught the joke once more.

"I'm joki-"

"Can I really protect you forever, Shuri? And Akeno?"

Shuri was about to explain when Barakiel interrupted her. Shuri looked at her husband's worried look, guessing what sort of nightmare her husband had had.

As much as she wanted to answer her husband that nothing bad was going to happen to them with him near, Shuri could not. If anything really did happen to them, Barakiel would regret it even more.

"It's useless to think about that, we each do what we can, and we can't do more than our best. If with our maximum effort we don't achieve the goal, it means it's simply not your destiny to do so." Shuri said as she stroked Barakiel's chest, red marks from the previous night still visible on the Cadre's chest.

"For now, get up. You have to get ready to go to Nephilim, those children are waiting for you,"

Barakiel nodded and rose from his bed. He followed his normal workday preparation process and completed it to the letter.

That's how he was, a serious man.

Just as he was preparing to leave, a sound came through the Shrine.

Knock-knock

Confused, expecting no visitors at this hour, Barakiel prepared to open the door. He tensed as he felt several powerful auras, albeit much weaker than his own, but relaxed as he sensed who they really were.

"What are you doing here?" Barakiel asked as he opened the door.

Chapter 66: We are moving here!

"What are you doing here?" Barakiel asked as he opened the door.

In front of him were four people.

Three of them, two girls and a boy, were his "students".

They were Raynare, Kuroka and Drako.

The remaining person was a little girl that Barakiel had met before. She was the daughter that Azazel had adopted a few years earlier, Valina. As far as he knew, Valina came from the lineage of Lucifer and also possessed the Divine Dividing, the name of the Sacred Gear that contained the soul of the "Vanishing Dragon" Albion and one of the 13 Longinus.

"Move in?"

The only boy present, a young dragon Tiamat had left in Grigori, asked Barakiel. He had his head tilted to one side as he made the face of an idiot.

Barakiel did not know why, but he felt the need to strike at that idiot face Drako was showing.

As for Raynare and Kuroka... they did not look much different than normal.

Raynare had a drowsy face with dark circles that looked like dark circles under her eyes, probably due to lack of sleep. This was not unusual, as she had already appeared like this on the first day of training.

Seriously, how could a little training cause so much stress on her? It even got to the point where she couldn't sleep well at night.

It was impossible that this little training was the cause of this.

No.

In fact, that could be the cause of Raynare's condition, but for a completely different reason.

Barakiel had noticed the day before when Raynare had started to cry because they were not going to have training that afternoon. He offered her to train with twice the intensity, even three times the intensity, and her response was twice as intense.

If the previous training was too hard, she could have told him, and Barakiel would have lowered the intensity a little, just a little. But she shouted excitedly that she wanted to train with double the intensity.

It was at this point that Barakiel connected all the dots.

Raynare had never been lazy, she just couldn't find the motivation to train. That's why she stopped in the middle of her training, to force Barakiel to force her to run to put more tension on her body.

That's why she was so excited about wanting to train at twice the intensity.

Sigh...

They had misunderstood Raynare all these years, Barakiel felt a little sorry for her. That's why he was going to give everything to train her from now on, pushing her to the limit in every training session.

He had woken up in the morning with this mentality, after sending the nightmare to the back of his mind. But he hadn't expected her to show up in front of his house with the rest of them.

Kuroka had the same face as always. She looked sleepy, but not for lack of sleep, and most of all annoyed, though Barakiel could not understand why she seemed annoyed every morning.

She was glued to Drako, as always. Kuroka was always attached to Drako, except when he was training.

When Drako started training, she would settle down somewhere and control her [Kasha] to help the little dragon train.

If it was little surprise to find her three students on her doorstep, even more surprising was to find Azazel's adopted daughter. What was she doing here, and why was she looking so intently in his direction?

Was this meant to be a fight?

Barakiel had heard that Valina was a lover of battles, but he didn't expect it to go this far.

"Honey, who is it at this hour of the morning?"

Shuri's voice was heard from inside the Shrine.

"Huh? What are you doing here?"

Shuri was just as surprised as her husband. In front of her were the three teenagers who had visited them the day before, along with another unknown girl.

"We're moving."

Drako wasn't asking anymore, he was affirming.

It was at that moment that Barakiel realized the suitcase each of them was carrying. How could he have overlooked that detail?

"And... where are you going to move?"

Shuri already had an idea, but still, she asked.

"Here, of course."

"Sigh..."

Shuri patted her forehead and sighed. She did not know what to do at this point.

There were four of them, and there were only four beds left inside the Shrine. This was too much of a coincidence.

"Akeno..." Shuri muttered when she saw her daughter peeking out the door.

Shuri noticed. Yesterday, Drako asked her daughter a question, and she answered with number four. Shuri did not understand what she meant, and Akeno had only told her that it was a secret between her and Drako.

Now it all added up.

Drako...

He had refused to care for Akeno if anything bad happened to her. But he had agreed to help her daughter if she was ever in trouble.

So this was his way of helping.

Barakiel could not always be at home, but he could go to work in peace if someone else was in his place protecting his family. And it was even better if he could trust them, which he could not do with many of the members of Grigori. And of the few Grigori members he trusted, they had their own jobs to do within the organization.

"Go ahead, I'll show you to your rooms."

"Wait, Shuri..."

"I said I'll show you to your rooms."

Barakiel took a step back when he saw the determined look on his wife's face. Even if he disagreed, what could he do against his wife?

Shuri entered the house, and Akeno followed her as she stuck out her tongue to her father. Drako and his party followed behind.

Shuri arranged a different room for each of the guests. And though Kuroka complained, she too had to back away from Shuri's steady gaze, accepting her fate of being separated from Drako.

Drako, who was the last of the group, said to Shuri before entering her room.

"I won't take care of Akeno in your place, because I won't let her lose her mother."

He entered the room and closed the door before Shuri could say anything. She was stunned for a moment, a tear streaming down her face as she mumbled.

"Thank you, thank you very much."
