Chapter 73: y

The next morning...

Remus woke up first, being an early riser in general. After ordering breakfast, Remus checked up on Harry. Harry, was currently turning in his sleep, muttering to himself. "No... mom don't..." Harry said, currently in a nightmare. Remus placed a soft hand on his shoulder. "Harry, wake up." Remus said nudging him awake. "Uh, wh-whats happening Uncle Remus?" Harry asked still groggy. "You were having a nightmare. You said something about your mother." Remus said.

"I-I did? I dont remember." Harry said confused. "Well, now that your awake, eat some breakfast, we'll talk afterwards." Remus said before pulling out a copy of the daily prophet. After about fifteen minutes he felt a tug on his sleeve. He looked away from his paper and saw Harry standing there. "I finished Uncle Moony." Harry said. Remus put down the paper with a sigh.

"Harry, how much do you know about wizarding families?" Remus asked. "Not much. I know there's the Lord of a house, and the heir, but that's about it. Oh, I know a bit about the different families and where they stand." Harry explained. "So you know a bit. That helps some." Remus said before he paused. "Hm. What... do you know about how a heir is chosen Harry?" Remus asked.

"Isn't it the oldest male?" Harry asked. "Correct. Now, this is not always true. There are two loopholes in our system. What i am going to tell you, is going to shock you. The first exception, is when a family only births girls. They usually marry someone and negotiate for the second child being named that family." Remus explained.

"But that's doesn't apply to me. Only Rose was born a girl." Harry said. Remus sighed once again. "Again you are right. The seconded exception however does. Now, when there are multiple male children born within three years of each other, or in your case a few minutes, the current Lord can actually transfer the heirship from one child to the next." Remus explained.

Harry turned pale at these words. "They really did throw me away." Harry said quietly. Remus looked at the floor in sadness, he hated to do this to Harry. "Your mother did protest the thought, and so did I, but it was us against Dumbledore, Sirius, and your father." Remus explained. "What does Damien and Rose think?" Harry asked, a tear rolling down his face. "Huh, Damien was happy to be announced as heir, while Rose was sad for you for a few days." Remus said, hugging Harry. "At least you guys care. I can forgive Damien, he's not that smart." Harry said childishly.

"Are they still planning on picking me up for Hogwarts?" Harry asked suddenly. "Yes. While you are no longer heir, you are still a Potter, even though you are considered an outcast by law." Remus said. "What's an outcast?" Harry asked. "An outcast is someone who is still apart of a family, but doesn't have much chance to do anything outside of the families influence. That means that you would have to pick up a job that the Potters have done in the past 30 years." Remus explained.

"My remnant friend's offer seems to be the better one." Harry said sitting down on the bed. "Tell me more of this offer Harry." Remus said sitting back down in the chair. "He didnt get to tell me much, because you interrupted him yesterday when you came and got me." Harry said. "Tell him I'm sorry, but please go on." Remus said with a smile. "He didn't tell me his name, other than he was the last Thornwood. But he said his purpose for staying here is that he had 3000 years to find someone who could become the new heir of the Thornwoods." Harry explained. "He said to do this we needed to go to Gringotts." Harry said.

Remus was deep in thought over this. A remnant, not dark magic, but not light. What's left of the grey I assume. But is there any alternative in Harry's life? Either forge a path through the unknown, or live on the sidelines, at most having an okay life. Remus thought. "Harry, where is your remnant friend?" Remus asked. "Oh, he's in this book I found." Harry said before looking around the room for said book. "Here it is!" Harry said, currently under the bed. Remus inspected the book, searching for any malicious magic or runes. "Don't touch it!" Harry yelled as Remus tried to grab the book. "Why?" Remus asked.

"He told me that it was bound to me. I don't want anything to hurt you." Harry said surprising the were. "How about you write a bit in it, get more information from him." Remus suggested, while he moved two seats together. "Okay, maybe he will tell me his name." Harry wished happily as he sat down at the table. I'm back. Harry wrote. The book lay blank for a few minutes until it said. DON'T EVER THROW ME ON THE FLOOR EVER AGAIN! It wrote angrily. Sorry. Harry said. Can we continue with what you were telling me? He asked. Yes, and tell your moonstruck Uncle to keep this to yourself. The book said, causing Remus to faceplant.

"What's it mean moonstruck?" Harry asked. "Its a very old term for people like me Harry. I'm a werewolf. It's why you didn't see me around all that often." Remus explained. You mean they haven't refound the calming potion for the were's? The book asked. "How did it talk to us without me writing something first?" Harry asked worrily. "I dont know. I also wonder if it means the wolfsbane potion." Remus said, wondered. I can write to you, because I'm absorbing the ambient magic around us, restoring me to my original state.

And no, that is not the potion I know of, but I imagine it works the same. But that is a conversation for later. Now were was I, oh yes. I will need to blood adopt you into the family. Once that is done I can begin teaching you. The book said. "Can you tell us your name?" Remus asked. Ah, pardon my rudeness. I, am Ambrose Thornwood, last decendant of the Thornwood Family. Ambrose said. "Pleasure to meet you." Remus said.

"So what does the blood adoption entail for Harry?" Remus asked. You are quite smart, that is good. Blood adopting Hadrian will change him a bit. His over all personality will remain mostly as he is now, thats why I chose him. He will eventally develope a quirk, as everyone in my family did. Physically, he will change to some degree, how much so, I cannot say. Ambrose explained. "What about magically?" Remus asked. He will probably get stronger, but he will change in what kind of magic he preforms best to that of grey magic.

"Are you telling me that Harry will be best at an area of magic that is almost extinct?" Remus asked. How sad that your people have lost the grey magic they once had. Does anyone still practice it? Ambrose asked. Remus thought for a moment. "I do believe that a few families in England and Europe practice them, but they are all reclusive, and hide the magic, as most people tried to stamp it out." Remus explained. "Why did people do that?" Harry asked. "Grey magic is very powerful, and tends to be destructive. People fear that, so they got rid of it." Remus explained.

Idiots. The lot of you. Ambrose said, shocking the two alive wizards. Grey magic is the origins of all magic, straight from the mother herself. It's the strongest there is in the world. Ambrose explained. "Whose this mother you talk about?" Harry asked. Another time. Back to the current conversation. The book I possess is the Grimoire of the Thornwood's, who had master's in the field of grey magic. Of course we have other magic recorded, but he will have a large ace up his sleeve because I am going to teach him grey magic. Ambrose explained.

"Very well then. Are there any disadvantages to doing this?" Remus asked. There are three. The first being he will no longer be a Potter, making him have to revive the family, or else it will die out forever. The second, is that there is a curse on my family. We pissed off a vampire Lord when one of my ancestors fell in love and married their daughter, without his permission. He cursed us to always want the unknown. That's why we have a lot of magic, we have always searched for it, causing many of my family to die. luckily the curse should be watered down so much that you only have a healthy curiosity for the unknown."

"Those don't seem so bad." Remus said. "What's the third one?" He asked. This one has two parts to it. Part of the deal that I struck with the goblins had them sell all our properties except the land that the manor was on. That means you have no home until you build a new one. This is because of how long the family has been gone. The second part is because we have been gone for so long, you will have to make allies as you will have none in the wizengamot. Ambrose explained. And because he is do young, he will not be able to join the wizengamet until he is fifteen."I see your point. He will also need a magical guardian until he is of age." Remus said. Why don't you do it? Ambrose asked. "England is still in the dark times when it comes to magical creatures. I will not be able to because of the laws we have." Remus explained. Something you will learn, is that the Thornwoods have always stuck it to the man when it comes to laws they think are wrong. Clearly, if you have a potion that keeps you calm during the full moon, you should be fine to support a child. I even know of a way to make you his guardian. Ambrose explained.

"I'll do it Grandpa Ambrose." Harry said."Very well, it seems as though everything will be in order, but I do suggest that you transfer your Potter account to your new one before the ritual Harry." Remus explained. Grandpa huh, never thought i'd see the day. Ambrose said. "Well, I guess we better head to Gringotts and get everything settled. Remus said standing up.
