I woke up to the sunlight streaming in through the window. I looked to my side and saw Bella smiling in her sleep. After slowly extricating myself from her I went and washed up in the bathroom. After feeling the drowsyness dissipate from my arms and legs, I returned to wake Bella up.
She was curled up in a ball, making me want to let her continue sleeping. I eventually woke her up and the two of us left for the adventurers guild.
We got there just as they were posting the second round of quests on the boards. I smiled to myself. We got lucky. At a glance, there were no more than fifteen adventurers here for this round of postings.
We had to wait a few minutes for all the boards to finish being set up, before we could take a quest. I looked around but couldn't find the adventurer who had caused trouble for me yesterday. It wasn't like I was hoping to see him, but I was wondering if he was punished.
At that moment, the guild workers who were posting the quests moved away and the waiting adventurers all hurried over to the boards. Bella and I were among them as we headed to the E rank quest board. There were two other E rankers, a man and a woman, who were looking at the quests with us.
After a quick search, there were three quests that caught my interest. One was an extermination quest for Screeching Foxes that paid ten gold coins for the fifteen required kills. The second was also an extermination quest, but this was for Horned Alphas. It too paid ten gold coins, but the request was only for ten kills.
The last quest was a three day survey of the forest to the north. The pay was nice, sitting at fifty gold coins for just three days of checking what monsters were active where and when within the forest. The major difference was that if an E rank wanted to take the quest, they needed to have at least one person with high agility in case they needed to make an early retreat. The quest should have been for C rank or even B rank, but most people won't take a quest like this at their level for such a low reward.
The two E ranks who were looking at the board with us, seemed to have decided on a quest as one of them reached for the investigation quest. Without looking at us, they took the quest post over to the quest counter and passed it over with their Status Cards.
I turned my attention back to the board, slightly upset that they took the quest I wanted. Bella and I talked for a moment then decided to take the Screeching Foxes quest. As I was reaching over to take it, one of the E rank adventurers at the quest counter yelled, "What do you mean we can't take this quest?!"
The guild worker behind the counter bowed apologetically. "Your agility levels simply aren't high enough for us to allow you to take this quest. The high agility requirement only allows parties with someone who's agility is over 300. The two of you do not meet that requirement. I'm truly sorry."
After hearing the guild worker, I made a quick decision. I pulled Bella over to the counter where the two adventurers were slumped in defeat and said, "If the two of you are willing, we can party up with you. I have an agility level over 300, so there should be no problem taking the request."
The two adventurers and the guild worker all took a moment to understand what I had said. The guild worker was the first to recover. "If the two of them are willing, I can set the four of you up as a party. However, I need to see your Status Card first."
I scratched the back of my head a bit awkwardly. "I'm sorry, but I can't let you see my Status Card."
"What do you mean I can't see it? It's required if you want to take on a quest. You should know that already." The guild worker looked somewhat annoyed at my half-assed statement.
"I didn't mean it like that. I meant I can only show it to the Guildmaster." I said trying to clear the air of confusion. "My name is Lucifer Arnova. The Guildmaster should have told everyone about me."
A look of understanding crossed her face once she heard my name. "Sorry, Lucifer. Yes, the Guildmaster told us about you. I'll go call him right now." With that, she grabbed a young man and had him replace her while she left to find the Guildmaster. Bella and I moved to the side as we waited for the guild worker to come back with the Guildmaster.
"Umm..." The two adventurers who were planning on taking the quest originally, tried talking to us. "Are you sure you want to take this quest with us? We can't take it ourselves, so wouldn't it make more sense for the two of you to take it for yourselves? If we join, the reward is less for each person!"
"That's just the way Luke is. It's clear that the two of you want to take the quest, so Luke didn't want to take it away from you." Bella spoke up suddenly. "Of course, if you don't have to join, but we really don't mind."
"Then we will gladly join you. Thanks for allowing us to party with you." The two of them both thanked us.
A few minutes later, the guild worker came back with the Guildmaster. "Lucifer and Bella. Pass me your Status Cards so I can confirm the quest." The Guildmaster said as he looked at the four of us. "You two need to give me yours too."
We passed over all four Status Cards, and after a moment they were returned to us. "Your quest and party status have been updated. Best of luck on the quest. Also, don't push yourselves to complete all three days. If you see something that you can't beat, return immediately. We don't want any unnnecessary deaths."
I thanked Guildmaster Brandon for his help and the four of us left the guild. "By the way, we haven't introduced ourselves." I suddenly realized that we hadn't exchanged names yet. "I'm Lucifer Arnova, and this is my partner, Bella Supard."
The two adventurers started introducing themselves at the same time before the man stepped back, allowing the woman to introduce them. "I'm Gina Bellsmith, and this is my husband, Paul Bellsmith. We are both E rank adventurers. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
