Chapter 17: King and Queen of the Night

IT'S VALENTINE'S day and tonight is our JS prom. I woke up early because I am going to school to help my classmates arrange the venue for the prom. I also have Venice and Charlotte with me and the other officers in each section.
I got up and took a quick shower. When I got dressed I immediately went down for breakfast. My parents and my older brother were there when I went to the dining area.
"Good morning everybody!" I greeted them warmly.
"Oh good morning. Happy Valentine's day sweetie." daddy said and I kissed him on the cheek.
"Happy Valentines to you too, mom, dad and older brother." I greeted them and kissed each other as well.
"Is it okay for that gown to be worn later in the prom? It was a nice one you chose, I peeked into your room last night." mom asked.
"Ah yes mom. Gelo and your friend, Aunt Ali helped me picked with my choice."
"Good. This afternoon I'll go get you a make up artist, be sure to be here before 5pm." mommy said again.
"Ah yes mom, before lunch we sure to be finish our work in school, we have a lot of classmates to attend to help." I replied to mom.
"It's good that you have time to get a beauty rest. The jewelries you use are already in your drawer, I've put them a while ago." said mom again.
"Thank you mom."
"Am I the one to get you to school right now or Gelo?" Asked Andrew.
" Yes it's you now my brother, I already told Gelo that he will be the one to deliver me to school and then pick me up tonight."
"Alright, hurry up so you won't be late."
"Okay brother!" And we continued our breakfast.
While Andrew and I were on our way to school, my cellphone beeped and I saw Gelo's text. He just greeted me Happy Valentine's and I replied to him just the same. I told him that we would meet later.
We ended up arranging the venue before lunch so I was able to take a break from it when mommy's make up artist took over to fix me.
When she's done with my make up I was amazed to see myself in the mirror. Gahd, is that me? My makeup is light but the result is nice. I took my eye glasses off for a while and replaced the contact lens that I rarely wear. I don't like wearing contact lens as my eyes are in tears. But tonight, I'm going to put them as adviced by the make up artist.
The make up artist complimented me. I just smiled and thank her.
I stood up and she helped me put on the dark blue gown that Gelo and I had purchased. The gown is simple but elegant. It has a plunging neckline but I need not to worry because I am wearing a body stockings. I also wore the jewelries that mommy gave me that perfectly fit to my gown.Then I put on my silver-colored shoes with only two inches of heels.
When I got down, Gelo was in the living room reading the magazine.When he felt someone go down the stairs he lifted his gaze from the book he is reading.
He was shocked to see me. My goodness, did my best friend find me beautiful too?
" How long have you been here, Gelo?" I asked him. He's not moving, he's just looking at me. Oh my! Is he bewitched by me or what?
" Hey! Ariel Angelo, I am asking you, how long have you been here?" I asked again.
Haha. He is so cute to look at because his lips are partly open.
" Huh! Sorry baby, what are you saying? " he asked a little surprised.
" Nothing! I told you that I might be late. "I said a bit pissed. So handsome but deaf. hmp.
On the way to school we didn't talk too much. He just keeps on gazing at me. I don't know what this idiot is thinking. He keeps on staring at me intently then heaved a deep sigh. It's so annoying.
" What happened to you?" I couldn't help but ask.
"Huh? Nothing. It's nothing." he answered.
" Nothing? eh you're still quiet there, are we in trouble? " I was so pissed that I didn't know if he was upset with my appearance or what, he just stared at me with a blank expression.
"We'll get in trouble because of the way you look right now. You're so beautiful. I'm sure you'll have a lot of trouble later in school. " he almost whispered, his forehead slightly creased and he held the steering wheel tightly.
" What did you say? I don't understand you, why are you muttering? " oh this guy I don't understand much what he is saying but based on his facial expression he seems annoyed at me. I thought I was beautiful at his sight. I just wanted to believe earlier that I am also beautiful just like my sister Shane.
" Gelo, if you are not pleased with my appearance just say it, it's not like we have a problem here! " I burst into annoyance and when I looked at him as if he was shocked at what I said.
" Hey! I'm not saying that you don't look beautiful nor I'm not pleased with your appearance , in fact it's a problem for me and I might be in trouble because you'll definitely going to catch a lot of attention and surely, guys in school will flock on you. " he kept saying and he didn't even notice what was coming out of his mouth.
"What? You're so exaggerated my friend, and you're becoming paranoid." I smile, how about that? how advance that makes this person thinks.
But I was just happy because he find me beautiful and now it's a problem for him because there might be guys who will flock on me.
"Ah well, don't go near and dance with the guys, then don't drink anything that they will offer you. I'm just in the parking lot so I can watch you somehow. " he said. He's so pissed.
I just sighed.It's over protective of my best friend, how could I have enjoyed my junior year of junior high school if I don't have good memories of JS prom. What about my dress? It would have been a waste if I didn't enjoy the night.
"Okay fine!" I just replied to finish the conversation.
When we reached our school, Gelo went straight to the parking lot and he was just waiting for me there.
Before I got off the car, my bestfriend as usual gave me a lot of orders to follow. It seems like I am a child that needs guidance.
But I really appreciated his concerns. He's just protecting me.
When I entered the venue many welcomed me with a smile especially guys. I can sense the adoration in their eyes.
My eyes searched for my two friends and I soon found them.I approached them where they are and I greeted them happily with a kiss.
" Wow you look so good, I'm pretty sure your admirers will flock on you. "Venice said.
" You're so exaggerated my friend , where the hell am I good? You guys are so beautiful . Don't you have your guards right now?" I asked, referring to Kevin and Clyde.
" They only got here a while ago but they will come back later to pick us up, you know it's Valentine's day so we have a date. " Charlotte replied.
" Who will pick you up later? Valentine's day today don't you have a date? " Venice is still teasing.
"Duh! It seems that I have a boyfriend like you. Don't make me envious because when I got a boyfriend, who are you to me." I annoyed Venice. Since she had answered Clyde after a month of courtship with her then Charlotte would have just answered Kevin the other day and really meant for Valentine's day.
" Why so pissed my friend? That's why you can't have a boyfriend because of your strict body guard. Why don't you try to mingle with the boys now, I'm sure there have a lot out there who wants to dance with you. " Charlotte said.
" My goodness, my handsome body guard is just waiting for me in the parking lot. My foolishness can't be allowed right now. " I laughed at my own words.
"Why? would he ever find out if you would dance later? The parking lot is a bit far here." said Venice.
" That's right friend , maybe Gelo's going to sleep in the car while waiting and one more thing, we need to enjoy now because it's our last JS prom and we're moving up next month. " said Charlotte.
" Oh well you're right. So, come on and have some fun." I told them then we went with the rest of our classmates when the party started.
The program started with a prayer then followed with the speech of the school president and after that there was a guest who performed on stage. When the program was ended, we ate at the buffet on the other side.
In fairness, there are a lot of foods and drinks today unlike last year there were only few dishes . I even saw a lechon on the other table.
"Who will be chosen King and Queen of the Night?" Venice suddenly asked.
" I dunno. I hope this time one of us will be chosen." said Charlotte.
I just kept my mum. I have no interest in those, it's okay to choose or not. It's no big deal. It's just for the pretty ones.
When we had finished eating, some of the students with their partner slowly came to the dance floor. A few minutes later, the three of us also came to dance.And as we talked about earlier, we enjoyed a night out dancing with our boys' classmates.
As the night went by, our principal announced that the King and Queen of the Night have been choosen and the pair who would be chosen will dance in the middle of the dance floor and only the two of them.
The spotlight spun, I was so nervous when the light stop at me and to Jaytee, our class escort.
God, why it has to be him? I haven't talked to this guy since I turned him down when we were in grade eight. It's just because we're so young back then.
" Our King and Queen of the Night is none other than Jake Terrence Arellano and Shanaia Aira Gallardo.You may now proceed to the dance floor. " everyone was applauding and some were crying out loud because the whole school was aware of Jaytee's courtship on me.
He held his hand on me and took me to the middle of the dance floor.
I was so nervous especially when we were dancing in the middle, my hands are trembling down in his shoulders.

"This is really a dream come true for me Aira, you're so beautiful tonight." Jaytee broke the silence between us.
I didn't know what to say, he was looking straight into my eyes. Shocks! He is so handsome. He is like the younger version of Tom Cruise. They are wondering why I turned down this good looking creature when he is courting me.
I only have simple reasons why I turned him down. We are not compatible. He is so handsome for me who looks like Betty la Fea. I may have many suitors maybe because they were just challenged because I am smart and talented. I am also popular at school because my sister Shane is a famous celebrity and I was best friends with matinee idol Gelo. But physically, I have no confidence in my appearance.They say I look like my mom but I can't believe that because mommy is so beautiful and she was once a beauty queen.
And maybe another reason why I always turned down my suitors? It's simple.....
And it's all because of one man.
And that is Gelo...
