Chapter 6: Best of Friends

"Hahaha..you're so funny Gelo! What's up with you? Are we in Wow Mali show? Hahaha." I just laughed when I heard what he said.
My heart was pounding hard again and I didn't want him to notice that, so I'm pretending to laughed at the whole situation. The truth is, I'm trembling by his words.
" Hey what's funny? I'm dead serious here. " he annoyingly asked.
" You! you are so funny. Do you sniffed on some mosquito coils or smelled a newly bare socks? Tell me, what kind of pill did you take and you're now talking non sense? Hahaha. " I said as I laughed so hard.
"What? !!" he asked. He seemed confused at what I said.
" You know Gelo, you stop right there! We just met again after several months and now you're talking non sense. You fix it! You may forget that we are still young. Let's prioritize our studies before you do that non sense thing."
" What's so funny about saying I have a crush on you? Crush is admiration . Meaning I admire everything that you can do. That's just it. " he explained.
" What??? Is that it?" oh my that was so embarrassing. I really talk a lot. My thoughts are too advance.
" Why? does the word crush have any other meaning to you? "he asked a little puzzled.
" Ah eh hehe.. I just find it funny. Doesn't it mean that when crush is said, others think of the physical appearance, right? It is immediately noticeable. Then you suddenly said that you got a crush on me. My goodness Gelo, what do you think I will be thinking? Haler, look at my face, I look like Betty la Fea's younger version while you look like Chris Evans. Where is justice in there, right? You're really funny. "
" Oh baby you talk too much. One thing more, why are you degrading yourself so much? Do you think that physical appearance is the only basis for other people to admire others? " he asked.
" Admit it, that's the real trend of today's world. Man looks more at physical appearance than on one's inner qualities or talents.Isn't it true that in the world of showbusiness, the first to prioritize are those with beautiful and handsome faces, talents are just secondary. He has a point, it's just my talents and abilities that he admired. Maybe he likes me but not in a romantic way. After all, who would have like me if I had a face that looks like a nerd?
" Hey you're spacing out. Did I say something you didn't like? " he worriedly asked.
" No. I was just thinking. Come on Gelo let's go back to the location site maybe sister Shane is worried now. " I told him.
He got up and helped me get up. We walk side by side. We were on our way to the house still talking and laughing, my sister was glad to see me with Gelo because I didn't get bored while she was filming.
Gelo and I watched my sister filming. His call time for his shoot is in the evening. Even Aunt Sylvia was thrilled to find out that we were together walking around the backyard. Gelo could not have been bored because someone was there for him.

When dinner came, we also sat down together at the dining table and then after our dinner, he invited me to be with him on the swing.We talked a lot when we were together. Gelo is smart. My sister Shane usually called the two of us, nerds. We can talk anything under the sun. Except about showbusiness, he knows that I don't want that topic. I can't relate.
We almost have a lot of similarities and it's not surprising because our birthdays are only two days away.
Adults say that when you have the same birth month, the characteristic of a person is almost the same.
Maybe Gelo and I were just similar by chance. He was older than me by three years and he and sister Shane are almost the same age.
Later that night, he was called for his scene. I watched him for a moment and admired his natural acting. I know, with his natural ability in acting plus his good looks, he can reach far in this field.
THE NEXT day, my sister Shane allowed me to go to our rest house in the other area.
As I was getting into our van with Mang Simon, my driver, I heard Gelo calling me.
As I look back, I saw him running in my direction.
"I'm looking for you, but Shane told me that you will go to your rest house in another area. Can I come with you?" he asked, a little bit panting.
" Yes. Of course. But they might look for you, don't you have a scene to film right now?" I asked.
" No. My call time is later tonight. I've told them I'm going with you." he said.
" Well then if that's the case, come on, come with me but we need to hurry so we can go back early and you won't be late tonight for your shoot. " I said with finality. He nodded. I smiled then pushed him gently to the van.
When we arrived at our rest house, we were kindly treated by our home care takers.They even cooked us a snack that Gelo and I gladly shared. After we had eaten, we wandered around our yard.
Gelo admired the architectural design of our rest house as well as the garden filled with various flowers. Even though our family has been friends for a long time, they have never been here. This rest house is just newly built. My daddy bought the land to Grandpa Franz, then decided to build a vacation house. The other house in the neighbourhood belonged to grandfather Franz. Gelo's parents haven't been here since this house was built, maybe they just haven't had the time yet to visit.
We went to Mines View park, we just took pictures, then we went to Burnham park and when we got tired we just sat on a bench and talked.
After a while we went to the market to buy some stuffs as a present for our family members. Gelo bought peanut brittle and strawberry jam for them and some shirts as well.I had no idea what to buy so I decided to buy the stuffs like that of Gelo.
I don't know what's gotten into me when I found myself buying a gray cardigan for Gelo, it was so nice, and I thought it suits him well.
I bought another color for my brother Andrew and daddy.
I'll just give Gelo what I bought for him later.
Before night time , Gelo and I returned to our place and it was clear that they were done filming and that Gelo would be the next one to shoot.
It has been agreed that there will be a little wrap up party tonight. It would be the last night of their filming and we will be back tomorrow in Manila.
Many dishes are served on the table shared by the entire production team.There are also a lot of wines purchased for adults. Shane, Gelo and I are not allowed to drink liquor, we only have juice for ourselves.
It was almost morning when the party ended and it is already noon when we got home. Before we left, Gelo handed me a small paper bag. As I opened it, I was happy because it is a native bag. So I handed him the cardigan I had bought for him, he was also happy because he liked the gray color.
We said goodbye and promised that he would call me again often when he didn't have a movie project. He'll be visible again.
Dinner time was when Shane and I got home and we are just right on time coz they were just about to start their dinner .I was happy and we are almost complete as a family during dinner, only my older brother is not here for he still has a task in our municipality.
After dinner, Shane and I handed our presents to our parents and of course they were happy because they liked the stuffs we bought.
I'm done with my evening rituals and getting ready for bed. After I finished saying my prayers, I heard my cellphone ringing.
Unregistered number. Who is it? in this hour of night?
"Hello. " I replied.
" Hey baby are you home? " I heard the familiar voice on the other line.
" Hey Gelo, it's you. Why is your number different? " I asked.
" Ah because this is my new cellphone, please save this new number later, okay? I used this new one because the other one is low bat. " he replied.
" Hmm. Is that so? All right I'll save this new number later. Anyway, why did you call ? "I exclaimed.
" Nothing, didn't I say I would call you often again ? I couldn't even sleep. Can you sing for me? " he requested.
" What song do you like? "
" Anything else will do. Just sing to me so I can sleep. " he whimper like a child.
" All right, you are so annoying, you even made me your radio. Here you go ... listen. "

" Wait baby, why is that? " he cut me off.
" Hahaha .. Eh you said anything will do. That's the first song that crossed my mind. " I laughed at him. I'm sure he's pissed with me now.
" Nevermind. Let's just talk." he said a little bit annoyed.
We were just talking the whole night. I didn't realize I was asleep because when I woke up the next day my cellphone was still in my ear and I could hear Gelo's slight breathing on the other line. Oh my, can't he run out of load? So I just turned off his call after saving his new number in my phonebook.

Days passed..Gelo and I became closer and closer everyday.
He was often in our house as usual and he is like a family member.
Aside from being Shane's best friend, mom and aunt Sylvia used to be together on a tv show. Gelo's dad, who is also a former actor, is now a politician, often with daddy at political gatherings. I just didn't notice them because I'd always leave the house when they had gatherings.
Gelo goes in and out of our house like a real family member. I often annoyed him by telling him that he is the adopted son of my dad. He just laughed it off.
Gelo still calls me even though he often goes to my school. His school is a few blocks away from my school now.It was a riot in school because he was known as an actor.He even sends me to his school when they have practice and games in basketball.Her team mates know me well. He also knew two of my best friends Charlotte and Venice, they always teased us but we just smiled at them.
We were just friends and one more thing, he didn't repeat what he said before that he's got a crush on me.
That's just a slip of the tongue! And he just admired my abilities.
Days and months have passed. Gelo and I have become the very best of friends.
And I can say that the former Aira who's always alone and lonely no longer exist. I just don't seem to notice now the world where my family belongs because of Gelo. He made me forget the disgust I felt in their field of work.
Not until one day when I heard mommy and sister Shane talking.
