Chapter 34: Awkwardness

I saw three old looking beds in the room with a small desk and a cupboard. There was nothing else in the room that I could see. The beds took most of the space and there was hardly any space to move around. But it still looked much better than my shack.

One of the beds was already being used by Cleo and decided to sit on the bed next to hers. I suppose Turek can take the third bed. I put my stuff down, faced Cleo and said "This looks pretty good. We can wait for Turek before going down for the meal right?"

"Ok". Cleo closed the door and sat down on her bed. Suddenly I started to feel a bit awkward. This was the first time I was alone in the room. I wouldn't say that being alone with a nun in a healing center really counted. After all the difference was that Cleo lived here as well, unlike Kas at the healing center.

We both sat there awkwardly while trying to come up with something to say. After half a minute or so Cleo finally came up with something.

"So what quest should we do tomorrow? Do you want to do the Kura quest again? I don't think Turek will make the same mistake twice! Hahaha"

I feel the tension loosen up and I started laughing with Cleo as well.

"Yeah, but I don't know. He might do something else this time and you might have to carry him again."

"No problem! You saw I strong I am right? Haha, no one can beat me!"

It seemed Cleo was back to her cheerful self. She looked much better like this than when she was armwrestling those adventurers. She looked cold and unfeeling at that time. I hoped I didn't have to see Cleo like that again. I wonder why she got so angry at them. They were making fun of me, not her at the time. I looked back at Cleo and we both got silent again. The tension was back and so was the awkwardness.

I didn't know what to do this time. She was older than me by almost 7 years which is not a small difference. Maybe that was why things were so awkward between us? I barely knew her too, after all we hadn't known each other for even 1 day. But she had shown how amazing she was in just 1 day. She had carried Turek all the way to the city to save his life when she thought it was in danger. She had defended me again the adventurers who were badmouthing me. Did I feel more than admiration for her? I was starting to feel that me moving in with her might have been a bad idea. How can 2 guys and 1 girl be living in the same room. At the time, we were just thinking about the money but we didn't think about what it really meant to be living in the same room. There was no privacy for anyone, especially for Cleo.

I was just about to say to Cleo that this might have been a bad idea, when we heard a knock on the door. Cleo got up and opened the door. It was Turek. He was finally here.

"Come in Turek! You made it… what happened to your face?"
