Chapter 8: A Different Danger pt. 2

"Why are you here?" I asked, trying my best to keep my voice steady.

He sighed and turned his head. He looked at the balcony doors that were near my sisters bed and then turned back to me. He looked different. He didn't look so tired so tensed up like he did the last time I saw him. He looked relaxed and at ease.

"Nice place you got here." He replied. I just frowned.

"It's not my place." I corrected him. "Please just leave. If anyone finds out you're up here I could get in a lot of trouble." I said.

He just smirked. "Don't lie, the doorman let me up here." He said.

"He wasn't supposed to. He's new here. Please go." I repeated. But he ignored me and kept looking around.

"So who are you related to? A council member...or are you maid or something?" He asked.

"What are you talking about?" I huffed. Feeling more anxious every second.

He rolled his eyes at me."You live in the castle, this isn't a hotel you can't just stay here whenever you want, so how come you get to?" He pressed.

I would never tell Danger I was a refugee from Astyria. I knew how Domivians looked down on us. So I just shook my head. "None of your business. Why are you still here? How did you even know I lived here!"

He had the nerve to laugh this time. "Why are you always so tense. Calm down a little would ya? You're making me nervous." He said. "And I didn't know you lived here. You mentioned you had to turn your report in to Zama Cartor so I figured you'd be here."

I took a deep breath. "Danger what do you want from me." I pleaded.

He shrugged. "I just want to know how your report went. That's all." He said. He cocked his head to the side and waited for me to answer.

"I don't know yet. I only turned it in to Ms. Cartor today. But you don't have to worry anyway. I didn't use any parts of your interview in it okay?" I said.

He furrowed his brows together when I said that. "What do you mean? You came all that way just to not use the interview? You expect me to believe that."

"I don't care what you believe. You can ask Zama for the file if you're that skeptical. But I didn't use it. Not any part of it at all. I don't even mention you in the report." I insisted.

"Why not?!" He asked. If I didn't know any better I might've actually thought he sounded...insulted.

"Oh I don't know. Maybe because you went into a wild rage and tried to steal my voice recorder! I said I wasn't going to use the interview without your permission-"

"I gave you my permission!" He said, cutting me off.

"Yeah, maybe you gave it to me when we started, but considering the way things ended I considered that your way of taking back what you said. So I didn't use it. The end. You may leave now." I said.

"You know I don't get how you have the nerve to be upset at me. I mean look at this." He said holding up his bandaged hand.

"I only did that because you attacked me!" I cried out.

"Attacked you?! I pinned your hand down!" He yelled!

"Yeah, after you shoved me!" I yelled back.

He scoffed then and shook his head in disbelief. "I didn't shove you. You tripped over the chair. Just like how you almost tripped coming in here just now." He said.

I just glared at him. "I don't understand why you care so much if I used your interview. You were so sure I was gonna spin it in some bad way. You should be relieved." I said.

"Don't tell me how I should feel." He snapped. "I just feel like you wasted your time and mine by not using it." He added as he glared right back at me.

I just sighed. I wasn't the type who liked confrontation. This whole conversation just exhausted me and I wanted it to be over. So I just shrugged. "Oh well. That's life sometimes." I said. And then I walked over to him. He kept his eyes on me the entire time as I threw myself across my bed, face first and just laid there.

"Hey." He said. But I ignored him. He shook my calf but I didn't budge. Then he pinched me on the back of my thigh.

"Ow!" I said as I sat up and turned around to glare at him. "Why are you still here!" I snapped again. "Can't you just leave me alone! The report is done! We never have to talk to each other again! I'm sorry I ever talked to you okay!" I said angrily. I didn't mean to unload on him, even if he did shove me. All the stress of the past weeks just came out at once.

He stared at me for a second in stunned silence. Then his face became an emotionless mask. "Okay." He said calmly. He stood up and walked out the door.

I continued to lay there for a second. My heart pounding in my chest. Then I groaned and jumped off my bed and ran out of my bedroom.

"Danger wait!" I called out.
