Chapter 4: Danger Undecided

"Your ribs are really bothering you huh?" I asked him.

"Nah, I mean yeah, but that's not why I feel the way I do." He replied.

"Do you mind clarifying?" I asked slowly, I was beginning to think I was crossing a line. I felt so tense being in here with him, I had to remind myself to breathe. Even though he'd been cooperative so far, I hadn't read an article yet that didn't highlight his quick temper.

But thankfully he continued without missing a beat.

"I've only been fighting seriously for 5 years but it feels like I've been doing it all my life. It probably sounds stupid to complain after I just won another title but...there was a point in my life where I couldn't picture myself doing anything other than fighting, but now I dread the idea of competing in another match...I just...I don't know..." he trailed off with a deep sigh.

And I sat there not believing what I was hearing. What if Danger announced his retirement? I could see the lame headlines now "The Danger is Over." The media loved to recycle that one whenever they thought Danger was finally facing an opponent he couldn't beat.

"Well....why don't you take a hiatus. Try something new?" I suggested. I figured there was only two ways to respond to what Danger had just told me. Call him crazy for thinking of quitting at the peak of his career, or try the empathetic approach. In the end my fear of being punched in the face by him trumped everything and so I went for empathy.

"But that's just it," he said sitting up suddenly, "theres nothing else out there for me, I'm not good at anything besides fighting." He was looking me dead in the eyes now and all I wanted to do was look away but I was captivated by his eyes. They were gray, but I specifically remember reading about them being hazel.

I snapped out of my daze and responded to him. "That's why I said TRY something new. How do you know you're only good at fighting when you've never done anything else? And even if you're bad at something in the beginning, no ones good at anything right away, just practice and learn." I pressed my lips together after I said that. He was still staring at me but he seemed to be on a different planet, his eyes were glassed over again.

"So," I said, breaking him out of his trance, "Got any interests? Maybe you could travel, or try dancing, I hear dancing helps with balance or something, that could come in handy if you ever decide to fight again."

He just raised and eyebrow at me. "I've got two left feet, and I don't care to travel, I've already visited Carlisia and Valerence, every country I've wanted to." He said.

"Oh...well I'm all out of ideas. Once you take a break I'm sure something will come to you." I said with a shrug.

He just smirked, "wow that sure was helpful advice," he said sarcastically as he laid back on the couch once again.

I just pouted and furrowed my brows, "what do I look like a life coach?" I bit my tounge. But Danger just laughed.

"Actually, height wise you look like a kid. I think I've met toddlers taller than you." He laughed again and my face fell. Oh how I loved short jokes. They definitely never got old or annoying.

"Anyway third question..." I started, but he laughed again before I could start it.

He had a mischievous glint in his eyes now that matched his smile, "I haven't upset you have I?" He asked.

I just shook my head. "No, I just don't appreciate short jokes that's all," I clarified.

He shrugged, "sorry," he said as he turned to stare at the ceiling again.

"You could sound more sincere," I teased, and he cracked another smile. For the first time since I started the interview, my shoulders relaxed and I didnt feel like my heart was going to explode.

"Let's just get to your third question."

"An idea that is not dangerous is unworthy of being called an idea at all."
