Chapter 9: Chapter 8 - Must adapt

Once the smoke dispersed, Ernie got a better look at the two girls. Neither of them seemed much older than him, he assumed that based on their height. Both had silver hair and blue eyes with skin as pure as snow. There were only two ways you could tell they were different, one was by their hair length. The other by their breast size.

Both of them were easy on the eyes. What defines a person as cute in this world, he did not know. But, he figured they would be placed high on the chart.

"What are you looking at?"

The girl with long hair asked in a violent tone as she looked at Ernie. She could tell he was looking at their bodies and did not approve.

The girl with short hair placed her hand on her sister while giving Ernie a loving smile.

"Please, don't mind her. We would like to thank you for helping us."

As she spoke in a charming tone, she bowed her head slightly.

Ernie waved his hand telling the girl she need not bow to him.

"I was just following a lead and happened to spot you in a rough situation. I believe it's natural for a man to help out two cuties."

"Cutie? What is that?"

The short haired girl asked in confusion. It was a term she's never heard of before.

"Ah, it's another way to say beautiful."

Ernie explained.

"Look at that, so young but already lustful. Sis, we should stay away from him. Now that we've already said our thanks, it's best we go our separate ways."

"Wait! I came from a village not too far from here during my travels, but I found something a bit unexpected. You two wouldn't happen to hear or see anything related to it, would you?"

Ernie looked at the two of them. The two girls looked at each other for a moment and seemed to communicate with their eyes.

"We know of that village, it's actually our home."

"Then, the two of you escaped? Strange thing is, i've never come across an entire village slain like that."

"In what paradise were you living in? That is not strange in the least bit."

The long haired girl replied back to Ernie.

Ernie rubbed his cheek.

"Well, a far away place. Did you guys have a fued with anyone? Is that why the entire village was killed?"

Seeing as how the girls did not answer his question about escaping, Ernie decided to switch things up a bit.

"You surely want to know a lot, what is it to you?"

"Haha, I think what my sister means is, we've no relation to each other so it is strange to see a stranger take interest in our affairs. Given the circumstances, it's best to leave this matter to us."

The short haired girl said.

"I was only interested due to my job right now, you see i'm actually a wandering mercenary. I heard many great tales of your village and their medical herbs. My friend is injured, and I have no medicine for him, so I was hoping to trade for some herbs. However, when I arrived I was greeted by a dead village. I couldn't give up on finding the herbs, so I followed the trail and it led me here."

Ernie came up with an explanation quickly.

The two girls glanced at each other.

"Me helping you wasn't for the herbs, I would have done the same thing if I saw two people being outnumbered. Fear not, i'm a just man. You can have my service, all I ask for in return is a little bit of herbs for my comrade."

Ernie had to speak up or else they may deny him any room for negotiation. As long as he seemed like he needed their help, he was sure they would take the bait.

Sure enough, the two of them said something softly under their breaths. Ernie couldn't hear a word, but he could make out small movements of their mouths.

"Very well, me and my sister have agreed to your terms. We will hire you, and in return we'll give you some herbs."

Ernie grinned.

"Great! What do you need me to do?"

"Our older brother was sent on a mission by our clan, but he has yet to return home yet. We fear for the worst. All we ask is for you to escort us both to the mountains."

"The mountains? How far is that?"

Ernie looked around, and saw not one mountain in sight. Only large rocks and lots of sand.

"Around a weeks journey to the west of here."

"And may I ask, what is there?"

"The Kizamaru Clan, our brother was sent to propose a marriage alliance between our two clans. Now that our clan is destroyed, we have to meet back up with him. It is our only hope."

Ernie closed his eyes and thought it over.

There was no real need for him to say no, but there was no definite reason to agree as well.

Nodding his head, Ernie agreed.

"You may call me Ernie."

"I am Hina, and this is my sister Himari."

The short haired girl said as she pointed to herself then pointed towards her sister.

In a further distance away, Yui and Aito were watching things play out. They couldn't make out the conversation, but they had the general idea of what was going on.

"We'll continue to follow them Yui, until we retrieve the herbs."

"That could be days. Lord Meimu said be back within a week."

Aito sighed.

"That's because he was testing Ernie's abilities, things have changed so that means the plan has also changed. We are shinobi, we must adjust to the situation. Remember that!"
