Chapter 5: 5. Gar and the Ghost Village

Gar and Kalyssa continued their climb up the mountain trail. After about an hour of traveling and Kalyssa telling Gar about her home and how she had come to Shara from Homlet from Port With a small tale of how she stowed away on the ship overseas and how she enjoyed her time at the Azerian New Year Festival. Gar just listened. He had no idea what she was talking about but to him it was better than a lone journey talking to himself. Which mostly consisted of complaining of wanting to just go home and wait for either death to swoop in or be hunted down by adventurers.

After some time more. It began to get colder and started to notice some snow covering the rest of the way ahead. They then came upon a small clearing up the mountain. They looked out to the clearing and seen they were late for some type of struggle between what looked like some Ice-like imps and the travelers. Kalyssa held out her hand and motioned for him to take it. Gar grabbed her hand and she helped him onto her shoulder. Gar was small and light enough to rest comfortably on her back and shoulder. From this angle he could see everything and absent mindedly looking down he saw that her cleavage looked amazing from here. She looked at him with a slight sigh then smiled and whispered. "Time now not to be cheeky, darling." He looked away quickly in embarrassment and returned to taking this time to look out for threats of any kind.

While peering out to the clearing the battle looked to have started in the clearing then moved into a small rundown village. Just beyond that, was the castle gates. Which looked untouched by time. They could make out just barely the group entering the gates.

Kalyssa moved slowly through the clearing and entered the village. The quietness of the village was scary to Gar. He hid in Kalyssa's hair in fear only to look out every now and then.

There was a small creaking sound coming from one of the buildings and she motioned Gar to be very silent. This made him shiver in more fear. She drew her bow and drew an arrow from her quiver. Gar removed his dagger from his waist and readied it. He looked throughout the empty village and his eyes fell upon a blue impish face peering from a hole in one of the structure's walls.

Gar tapped Kalyssa's shoulder and pointed to the imp. Like lightning Kalyssa turned and let the arrow loose. The arrow met its mark. With a quick yelp from the creature everything was quiet for a second then with infernal like screeches and the flapping of icy dark wings filled the air. And out of the buildings around them came fifteen ice imps. Kalyssa acted fast and started fire arrows at the now circling imps flying above them. After firing a couple down and missing some here and there. She put away her bow and drew a longsword. As she readied her weapon. Three imps then swooped down and started to attack Kalyssa. She dodged and weaved the attacks from their chilling enemy. Gar held on as she moved gracefully. He took some chances to make his own attacks on the imps. Which seemed to barely injure their attackers.

When suddenly an imp took Gar by surprise and bashed into him from the side. Kalyssa gasped as her green friend tumbled to the cold hard ground. Gar lifted himself slowly as an imp decided to pounce. Before the imp could pounce on Gar, it met its end by a thrown dagger from Kalyssa.

That then made an opening for the imps to start thrashing at her. A claw slashed her belly and another scraped lightly across her cheek drawing a trickle of blood. Some attacked her skirt which started to expose her pale skinned thighs and exposed a small bit of light cloth of her undergarments. She hadn't seemed to notice the shredding of her attire as she tried to dodge and block the claws from tearing her to pieces. Gar, still managing to pull himself up, watched in horror as Kalyssa struggled to block and attack back at her winged attackers.

When suddenly a claw lashed out and cut a-crossed her chest. Cutting a portion of her shoulder strap off and exposing some of her right chest area. She cried out in pain. As she fell to the ground in a heap. The imps finding their moment to circle her. Infernal teasing of snapping jaws and chuckles filling the space. That's when Gar's eyes widened and he felt himself growing angry at the imps. No?! Not just the imps but himself. For he was too weak to defend his newfound friend. Too weak to fight back the hate from his people. The rage flared inside his small goblin body and without hesitation he charged at the imps. He held his knife in one hand as he punched and lashed out with his other with the knife.

Gar was hit and lashed at. Which just made him much more furious than he was. The imps landed to the ground and surrounded Gar and his exhausted female friend behind him half laying on the ground trying to catch her breath. The imps started cackling like hyenas as the closed in. Gar then with a mighty goblin squee threw his dagger at one of them which just bounced off its forehead with a clink sound. The imps stopped and stared for a moment at the dagger as it hit the ground. Gar looked up at the imp and chuckled nervously saying "Opps?"

The imp that the dagger hit then hissed and slapped him across the face with its claws. Gars head went to the side and his eyes closed and he winced in pain. "Gar!" Kalyssa's voice said with a gasp.

That's when something clicked within Gars mind. He was now more than mad at the imps. He was just done with them altogether. He snapped open his eyes and they were completely black. He bared his teeth as he screamed with rage. Gar then took the rope from his waist and a red like miasma started to coat the rope and hook and it transformed.

The rope was now a chain that looked like heated metal and the hook transformed into a spiked ball of fire. With a more primal-like roar, he whirled this weapon and lashed out at the imps with deadly precision. The ball of flame struck several imps with a swing that the icy skin just shattered and left them sprawling on the ground wounded.

He then took his chain and wrapped one of the imps with it. The imp screamed with agony as its icy skin started to steam from the chains. Gar then a tug whirled the imp into the air and crashed it onto another imp. Both imps shattered like glass against one another. Gar kept fighting with beastial like rage until there was one left and he kicked it to the ground. He then wrapped the sizzling chain around its neck and spoke with an angered deep voice that was as if the ground trembled to his every word. "Gar mad. You hurt Gar's Kah!" He tightened the chain around its neck. "Gar break you now." And with one final pull as he placed his foot against the imps back and with a roar of unknown strength. The head snapped off. Gar fell backwards and the head launched into the air and fell a few feet behind him. Gar sat up, with heavy intakes of breath and growling. His rage seemed to be cooling off and his green eyes appeared slowly.

Gar, trying to catch his breath, looked at Kalyssa. She scrambled to her feet and ran to Gar. She got to her knees and hugged him to her chest. Gar then started to feel dizzy and started to drift unconscious. "Gar save Kah..... Gar sleepy....." and with his face in her soft warm chest he drifted into unconsciousness. It was dark and inviting like his cave. And he accepted it.
