Chapter 4: Language Barrier
Nausus, I feel so sick. Like someone filled me with vile disgusting glop and rag dolled me around like a toy. My eyes shoot open as I vomit over myself. Taking a few deep breaths to calm myself down before I look at where I am. I am in a bed with yellow floral sheets over it.
Well, stained yellow floral sheets now that they have my bodily fluids all over them. The bed is stiff and pretty uncomfortable to say the least. My right arm is chained to the headrest. I attempt to sit up only to feel an incredible pain in my abdomen. I give a firm yank on the chain which only served to make a loud rattling noise. My failed attempt at sitting upright in the bed aside I once again take in my surroundings.
A small room only slightly larger than a closet is where I lay. There is only one door in the room and it is slightly cracked open. There are tubes and piping covering the walls. The piping bronzed colored, honestly it looks like something out of a steampunk movie. Other than the piping covering the walls there really isn't much in terms of decoration in the room.
I hear a commotion in the other room on the other side of the door. Sounds like arguing if I am going off the tones of the voices. Speaking of which they don't seem to be speaking English. I cannot understand a word of what they are saying and I have never heard anything similar to what their language could be.
I close my eyes and think of everything that has happened to me so far. Everything from the pressure that was in my bedroom to the notifications saying something about earth being sold. A raging headache takes over my thoughts as I am starting to really hope that I am just dreaming. However, i'm not optimistic. As I lay there wallowing in my thoughts the door opens with a loud creak.
I turn to the door to look at my would be captor and my eyes widen at what I see. Standing in the doorway is what looks to be a normal guy, if you discount the fact that this person has has two short horns sticking out of his head and the fact his skin color his a dull silver shade. The alien and I lock eyes and stay there for a second just staring at each other.
Suddenly on the aliens face a wide friendly smile sprouts and he raises his hand saying something
"⊬⍜ ⋔⊬ ⋏⏃⋔⟒ ⟟⌇ ⌰⏃⍀⌇"
I just sit there and stare at him for a solid twenty seconds. Seeing that his greeting, or at least that is what I think he did, failed his smile on his face twitches as he once again says "⊬⍜ ⋔⊬ ⋏⏃⋔⟒ ⟟⌇ ⌰⏃⍀⌇"
This time I respond "I don't know what you are saying, do you uhhh speak English or maybe Spanish"
Halfway through me talking a frown takes over the aliens face and he cups his chin and seems to ponder something.
Like a light bulb went off in his head, he gets a eureka expression on his face. Using his fingers he draws a rectangle in the air. After he does so he stares at me expectantly. I don't really know what he wants until it clicks.
I speak out in with somewhat unsure "Status?"

The status page ends after that. I look back at him and nod in affirmation that I think I did what he wanted me to do.
Next he draws a little circle in the air. He once again waits for me expectantly. OK, I have no idea what that means, but seeing him continuing to look at me waiting for me to complete his task I look over my status screen again.
Huh, that's strange. I never noticed that there is a little gear icon in the top right corner reminiscent of an options button that you might find in a video game. Thinking that it might be what he wants me to do I click it and a bunch of different things pop up,
A bunch of different notification related options now fill my vision. I read through some of them.

After looking through the various different options available I come across one that looks like it might help my current situation out.
[ Language ]
I click it and it branches off into different choices but there is one that catches my eye.
[ Auto Translate all non magically imbued speech ]
I click it and a mild headache creeps up the back of my head. The headache wasn't nearly as bad as the one I had when I first woke up so I just dealt with it in silence.
Turning back to the alien I ask in an weary voice "Can you understand me".
