Chapter 2: Chapter 1

Alekzandyr's Point of View (P.O.V.)

A small pudgy demon appears through the portal. It kneels behind me, head bowed. "Sirrr," it says, dragging out the r with a hiss. Blue tongue licking it's top row of shark teeth. The demon is covered in black onyx scales with spikes on the end of it's thick yet short tail. It looks like most all the other demons, except for its shortness. It has a mohawk of spikes jutting from the top of its head all the way to its tail. "You called for me."

"Yes," I say in a clipped tone. I don't turn as I speak, instead preferring to watch the way the grayness in the barrier pulses and swirls around. I faintly remember the demon's name. Gore, was it? Or Snore? Whatever, I'll go with the first one. "What is the progress of your market, Gore? Where are you with it?"

"My connections are nearly everywhere. We are having trouble getting into Angelium the most, sirrr," Gore replies. He rises from kneeling, standing at a height of about three and a half feet. "My workers are slowly multiplying. There is some suspicion arising, but we're," he pauses as if trying to add effect, "taking care of it."

"Good. Make sure you expand to every town and city. Don't leave any of them out."

"Of course, sirrr."

"Leave now and send Orpheus to me," I order with a quick wave of my hand. From the

corner of my eye Gore bows and returns to Desistar.

So annoying. They're all alike. I prefer fallen angels. Less stupid than the basic demon minions. And more powerful, maybe I should have them make me a nice sword. They are known for crafting powerful weapons made from the obsidian in Desistar. Gotta look my best when the war begins after all.

I walk the rest of the way over to the barrier. I'm an arm's length away. Its height is immeasurable. Guessing at it would be impossible. It rises up and rounds itself around our realm behind me, Desistar.

The area between the realms is an interesting sight that's continued to amaze me. Other than the stone bridges connecting all of the realms that look irregular in this place, stars of different shades can be seen faintly beyond the wall. Space, that is the word for it. I remember when I was young. Before the awful Uprising. When I was soft.

Universes and worlds called planets are beyond. From where we are in the realm's placement, the moon and the sun barely shines on us. We're almost always in the dark. There are two months a year when we experience the normal night and day like the other realms. We are not entirely in the dark, but nearly.

"Alekzandyr," Orpheus says as he steps through the portal and saunters over to me. He runs his fingers through his black ear-length hair, pushing it back.

Unlike all the other demons, I and Orpheus have two forms. A demon form and a human form. We prefer to stay in our human forms only because it distinguishes us from demons and fallen angels. Though it's seen as a weakness by demons, none dare speak against me.

"What's up?" He asks with a slightly bored look on his face.

I sigh and let a small smile grace my lips. "So casual, Orpheus. It a wonder how I tolerate you." I shake my head in silent laughter. I actually like his casualness. I get enough of the demons kissing up, I don't need that crap from him. Especially him.

In a way, you could say we are "friends," but that word still wouldn't quite fit. It's more of an equal recognition. His powers match mine, but he's my right-hand man. He does what I say without failure, ever. Despite me still being his superior, we've saved each other's tails many times in past years and I've grown fond of him in a friend-like manner. To truly determine the stronger one we'd have to fight to the death, but he has no intention of ruling. And I have no intention of letting anyone else tell me what to do.

We're the only ones of our kind. From mistakes to the new superior race.

"My Lord," he says with mock sophistication, a grin on his face. "How can I be of service?" He bows with a wide sweep of his hand.

"Hah," I chuckle and let the moment settle. My seriousness returns when I remember that sharing a laugh was not what I came here to do. "Have you found a spirit yet? A good one." We've had a couple recent dealings with some spirits and that didn't end well. For them.

"Yes. He's said to be the top of his class. Shall I summon him?"

I nod my head in answer. Orpheus mumbles a string of runes and then lifts his hands, placing them against the barriers glassy surface. On the other side, I see a man leave the realm of Kunari. He's tall and skinny with short brown hair, similar to Orpheus's. The man's maybe in his late twenties. There's a sleek black cane in his hand which he seems to have just for looks.

He walks up to the barrier and smiles mischievously. "Orpheus, how wonderful it is to see you!" There's sarcasm etched into his voice. He turns to me and his eyes brighten. "Ah! And you must be the Dark Lord himself, Alekzandyr. A pleasure to be of service to you." The man bows deeply from his waist, cane held out and back. "I am Hazekiel, but please call me Haze."

Orpheus takes his hand away and leisurely puts them in his pockets.

"What can I do for you, my Lord?" Haze asks.

"I need you to deliver some messages to some residents of Kunari," I say and pluck a folded piece of paper from my jacket pocket. I flick it through the barrier with a little magical force and he catches it easily between two fingers before it flies past his ear. He inspects the note before smiling.

"As you wish my Lord, I shall get the deed done. Shall I assume this will mean you will be contacting me again?"

"Yes, Orpheus shall summon you for your next task, if you don't mess it up."

"Oh you don't have to worry about that, My Lord," Hazekiel says with a few quick taps of his can. Purple and black smoke swirl up around him from his feet. Before his face disappears he flashes a very wide grin.
