Chapter 32: Reiji Asuma
"WHY! Why did it have to end like that! You already sacrificed many people life, some of them who is dear to you wishes you to live but Why! Why did you just let yourself get killed Reiji, well for Elen, I get it you live for and by Reiji, Damn those creators!" a voice was heard shouting from his room, earning a laugh from his younger brother, a look of disdain from his grandfather and a worry from his grandmother.
Michael, it was him, Michael Febiranto who shouted those words in frustration again, yet again after watching an ending where the character he is attached to died again and again, this time it is "Phantom : Requiem for The Phantom".
Michael clenched his teeth and hand hard while thinking in his mind 'I actually want Cal to live too, to live with you two but all right she dies perhaps because you two only can communicate like that, but she already died wanting you to be happy, I expect and hope You and Elen would be at least happily ever after.'
Even though he didn't cry like when 'Plastic Memories' or in 'Clannad After Story' when Nagisa died or when Ushio died and he is not frustrated considering they revived, it made him frustrated just like when he watched ' 5 Cm per second'.
After seconds of long thoughts Michael moved into action he searched for the blog, forum, and more that had Phantom Requiem ending discussion, then he understood that there is a visual novel version he read all the ending possible, and then he clenched his teeth and hand again, words seething trough his teeth "Why did those anime staff didn't take the happy ending route! Well perhaps there is no ending where Cal, Reiji, and Ellen could live together happily after but at least there is on where a pair of them right, Why? WHY!?" Michael asked to the empty air but he knows why in the depth of his mind, it was to increase the shock value, or perhaps to attract attention to the visual novel where there is happy ending but to him the anime is usually where the main world is and other ending in galge game or game or visual novel it come from is an alternate world and he knew if the karma actually worked as it should Reiji and Ellen indeed should have died but just like any other selfish human in this world, Michael didn't care about other fictional characters he only cared about those several fictional characters.
Michael shut down his laptop and staggeringly went into his bed, instantly covering his body with the blanket, not to make the cold go away but to feel as if someone perhaps the fictional character that he grew up with hugged him and slept beside him like a lover, family, or friend, and he hugged his bluster before curling up.
Slowly his mind slowed while cursing at the ending which he is unsatisfied with but Michael, he understands many, many… things ended up in an unsatisfying way, and in fictional world those rates is low in comparison to real world. This line of thoughts reminded him of his 100% fail confession on the prom night at last day at his high school life, just because he is desperate to do it, he already know she already have a boyfriend but Michael still did it, he cried afterward in the first time ever since he became a teenager, not a child, he cried with tears flowing down from his face, at this time he finally know how those fictional characters could cry until it dripped down to the floor. As he cried, he slowly regained a part of his bearing and he wishes that at least someone will notice the fact he is crying and conforms him but no not anyone notice, not even the so called 'friend'. Remembering this made him curl even more.
Then this line of thought reminded him of the day where he left his phone on the classroom when he went to the toilet and when the so called 'friends' opened his phone and exposed a list of names that he had or used to have the crush on, her name was even clearly tagged with currently in love with. Remembering this made him tightened his hug. Then this line of thoughts reminded him of….
It was this kind of mind that make him having a hard time sleeping, that's why when he is not sleeping, he is constantly searching for something to occupy him, well mostly it is anime, manga, movies, TV series, and novels.
At the end before he slept Michael thought 'Reiji, you wimpy bastard.' even though Michael himself is a wimpy bastard who is scared of insects.
That night looked just the same just an other night but inside Michaels' head, his brain lighten up with his brain activity, if his brain activity was scanned his brain would looked like a light bulb even though some part is not as active as some particular part.
That night Michael dreamed of meeting Reiji Asuma, the Main Character of Phantom: Requiem for The Phantom, the man who he called wimpy bastard. It was… weird he himself looked like an anime character? And the Reiji wore a cloth just like in the last episode before he died, he too looked confusedly at Michael and the grey surrounding.
Weirdly, Michael remembered that this is a dream, he is sleeping right now, and for some reason he didn't care for the weirdness of the surrounding and acted wildly, he walked toward Reiji ranted all his frustration to Reiji, who wanted to ask something or move Michael but for some reason he couldn't and he looked confused. As Michael ranted, sometimes he patted Reiji's shoulder heavily, sometimes headbutted him, knelled on him but lastly, lastly? How did he know this will be the last one? Michael thought confusedly but he finally lifted his eye and met Reiji's eye who couldn't move or speak and spoke sincerely.
"Even so thank you for being a part of my life, a 'person'' who will build my view, thank you for being there for me, you wimpy bastard." Michael smiled and lightly punched Reiji's chest before dispersing into the grey surrounding.
Finally, Reiji have been free from his invisible bindings and looked around confusedly "What he is talking about? Routes? I too actually want for-" Then Reiji dispersed into the surrounding greyness.
Just like that the grey emptiness remained unchanged forever until it's 'master' wishes for it.
