66.66% THE ASSASSIN OF THE STUDENT COUNCIL / Chapter 8: Just a Warm Up

Chapter 8: Just a Warm Up

Franks form was receding down the hall with his two thugs trailing behind him. Whatever had been said to him was apparently more important than dealing with someone who challenged his authority. There where only two things it could be a territorial problem or someone that he was afraid of. It didn't matter too much to me right now. What was more important was getting four of the five home. As I turned my attention back to the others they gotten just a little bit ahead of me in the hallway. I picked up the pace in my stride and caught the tail end of Garrick and Uriel consoling the other three.

"---trying to get under your skin. It's what he does."

"I wish I could just shut him up." Penelope sighed.

"And why can't you?" I chimed in genuinely curious as to why they let themselves be treated that way.

"He's one of the top tier Alpha's of the city. Part of the Ten Fingers of God. No way we can fight him. His thugs are pretty good too," Uriel pointed out with the voice of someone who's already committed to the idea of defeat.

"Ten Fingers of God. That sounds like a dangerous name." The image that those words conjured was definitely not one to be taken light of. "Who are they exactly."

"That's right important information about the city is kept from the public as best as possible to prevent villain takeovers." Garrick claimed. This news at least explained why all I knew about the city was basic information of the Athena district. That it was a collection of schools for training superheros, keeping track of Alpha powered people, and helped Alphas that didn't want to be heroes adapt to society. "The Ten Fingers of God are the ten strongest Alpha's in the city."

"The Head Student Council are members of that group. So is Frank, Director Winona and Liliana, They're powers are no joke. That's why we were so amazed at how you defeated Liliana so quickly." Darcy explained with a a little awe in her voice.

I had known that the principal was powerful same with the council and Liliana. But I hadn't known they were considered the top of the city. When I think back on it it did seem like the council members were holding back. "I don't know If that's all that impressive. My powers are just a bad match for what she used."

"You may be right. Regardless you better watch out Frank doesn't take well to rejection." Uriel warned with little voice inflection.

"I'm not that worried about it." After all power isn't everything. I know I can hold my own even if the council had gone all out. Not because my powers are strong but because my skills are. "Anyway, here we are at the entrance. Should we call a cab for you guys."

"Th-th-thanks but we already have someone to take us back." Dean spoke up finally. He seemed slightly shaken at what had been happening earlier.

"It's okay to be afraid just don't let it control you." I told him in parting. I didn't know why but it seemed the right thing to say.

"S-s-sure. Th-th-thanks."

"See ya tomorrow Little rebel."

"Good evening and be careful or whatever."

"I'll DEFINITELY beat you next Time Gar."

As we saw them off outside the doors the feeling of being watched returned to me. This time however I followed the direction. Again I saw a silhouette in the windows that seemed to be watching me. The window in question was on the fourth floor. I attempted to be careful of my gaze so that the figure didn't get spooked and mad my way back inside. Garrick was saying something but I tuned him out trying to sort out the days events and the new information I had gained.

By the time I came to the sun was had yet to rise. My new home -which didn't look much different from the tiny apartment I used to live in- consisted of a Murphy bed bookcase combo, a corner desk, a small dresser and a pull up bar station. Not seeing the need to change my routine I decided to open the day with a dozen sets of push ups, pull ups, sit ups and hanging crunches after stretching for a bit. Opening the closet that had been filled in nearly the exact same set up as my old place I changed into a charcoal black tank top, steel grey jogger pants and a steel grey hooded sweatshirt.

When I left my room I could hear Garrick snoring through the walls of his room. I grabbed a water bottle and my keys and left the apartment. Upon leaving the complex I used my one of my two powers and made set of sunglasses with two functions. One was to record my surroundings to playback later for danger assessment and the other was a digital route over lay. Much like a video game while wearing these I could see a programmed route along with a distance tracker.

Normally I would to a fifteen mile jog every day. The city was over ten times that. I would be spending each day jogging in segments in order to familiarize myself with each district and area. Today I'd just start in the residential or Hestia district.

This was one of the larger border districts in the city and as one would expect for what it functioned for It was mostly dorms, apartments and family homes. The homes were near the outermost edge of both the district and the city followed by the dorms and finally the apartments being the closest to the center of the city.

About halfway through the course I had plotted out I had neared the apartment section passing by an alleyway. An explosion of dust and debris burst out before me with a human body being propelled backward out of the alley. I went on full alert ready to spring into combat mode should the need arise as I went to check the man's pulse.

'Good he's still alive.' I thought to myself. My trained reflexes kicked in a second later as two more forms came hurtling toward me. The farthest one was chasing the other and the nearest was leaping backward. Instictively I rolled forward out of the way.

It was obvious that they were fighting. They both looked about my age or younger which meant that they were students. "IF YA THINK YA CAN COME ON MY TURF AND CAUSE PROBLEMS FOR ME AN MY CREW YOU GOT ANOTHER THINK COMMIN'!" shouted the first figure that had come out of the alley. A male judging by the baritone gravel that came from his throat. He had a massive greatsword resting on his shoulder. The sword looked like some sort of demonic weapon. All that he wore however was a tank top and athletes pants. His hair was trimmed short in an almost military fashion.

"Your turf? Well I fail to see you're name on anything here. Wait... what was your name again...bastard sword" came a very feminine voice that sounded charming. However the cruel smile and look in her eyes told an entirely different story. "I just came to play."

"The name is Derrick and I'm done with your games."

Chapter 9: First Disciplinary Conflict

Derrick charged in with astounding speed straight towards the madwoman. With my new position in the school systems and the city I clearly needed to do something. I created a junk shooter around a stone I had picked up. As soon as the weapon was made and before the swordsman could strike the girl, whose hair had expanded and looked like some sort of monster about to eat, I launched the stone. Right between them. The resulting micro shock wave stopped them right in their tracks.

"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!" I shouted at the two obvious alphas.

"Oh, a new playmate? Friend of yours Bastard Sword?" The crazy chick questioned with what was an attempted adorable face with her head cocked slightly to the side.

He turned to look at me standing over the body of whom I assume was his comrade and his eyes went bloodshot. "DON'T YA TOUCH HIM YA BASTARD!" And like that his anger was now directed at me as he charged me. I took in the situation and recognized that neither participant was going to answer any questions unless they were incapacitated.

"hah" I sighed and timed myself watching every movement that the two made with special attention on him as he was currently aiming for me. His stance and form told me that he was going for a charge thrust as he held the grip slightly behind him with the tip pointed towards me. Timing my movement with the precision expected of an assassin I stepped sideways and inward placing my hand on his shoulder to help leap over him while simultaneously manipulating my kinetic energy to face plant him and launch myself into the air.

The arc of my movement landed me right in the middle of the two. I peeked over the rising form of Derrick to double check that I had left enough space so that his unconscious ally was fine. There was the sound of clapping and the hairwoman was the source. She had expression of childlike glee. "Oh so pretty you'd be a much better playmate than that barbarian." Before she could react I closed the distance on her charging a kinetic punch aimed for her stomach only to be stopped by her hair glomped on my fist.

While it looked like hair what it felt like was steel threads. As I hadn't been prepared for that my hand was cut and bleeding a little. I dissolved the junk launcher and switched to another of my practiced devices. Before I could complete it the her hair changed again this time it felt almost like a giant fist of hair clamped on my hand, and she lifted me up over her preparing to slam me to the ground. Changing gears I shifted my kinetic energy to slip me out of her grip and towards a wall.

The impact took a little wind out of me but there was no time to recover as her hair reached out. I rolled to the side and sprung that way to be met with a sword swinging towards my head. I redirected my kinetic energy to the side and just barely escaped a fatal wound but ended up receiving a clear wound on my shoulder. The combat stopped again momentarily as the three of us formed a triangle. A standoff. No one could move with out them being exposed to the others.

I kept my hand behind my back as I readied a new weapon. In the same moment I noticed that the swordsman was forming another greatsword In his other hand. My eyes widened slightly. It was the first time I had seen someone else with a similar creation type ability. The psycho in contrast was licking her lips while her face was flushed. I assume in anticipation.

His new weapon was complete and pointing at me while the demonic sword was pointing at her. The new sword while still massive had a more slender and intricate design that made one think of the wind. My weapon was ready in my grip. I tensed my muscles in preparation. The two swords released an aura. The one in his right hand seemed to have air swirling around it catching debris and would most certainly cut if one got to close to it. The other seemed to have a dark cloud around it.

Suddenly I felt my energy deplete just a little like my will was being taxed. I glanced at the wound on my arm and sure enough it was black and veiny like some sort of curse was affecting me. Realizing I could afford no more time I leaped backward applying kinetic energy to increase the distance and draw my weapon. The looks on both of their faces were shocked but that didn't last for long as they recognized the others distraction and attempted to close the distance towards me first. Both were fast.

I was faster. The long barrel meeting the rest of the rifle I fired off to consecutive shots straight to their foreheads. The rounds were nonlethal energy bullets. The purpose of this ammo type was to create a spike of energy that would leave them unconscious for an hour and paralyzed at least for a little longer. While they were fast they weren't among those faster than a bullet.

Derricks swords dispersed to wherever they had come from and the girls hair had shortened drastically to a pixie cut. No longer under threat of death or dismemberment I created full hand manacles for Derrick and a cranial cap for the Medusa wannabe as well as another pair of manacles. I called for the student council to bring a student detainee vehicle with three sets of power blocking cuffs around so that I could interrogate and punish them when they woke up.

__________________________

The room they were being held in was pure white and contained three desks that they were cuffed to. I was sitting on a chair in a corner reading through both their student file waiting for them to wake up. Eventually I heard two sighs of distress and one of pleasure.

"Ugh, my head. Wha' happened. WAIT WHERE'S BOBBY!" exclaimed Derrick.

"Haah, I'm right here boss." The other guy called drowsily.

"Ngghhh, That was fun. Great beauty sleep, I'll need to do that again sometime" Melinda, The Medusa wannabe purred.

"Good You're all awake. Maybe now I'll get an explanation out of the three of you before you receive your punishment for breaking both city and school rules."

"I ain't talking to no fuzz." Derricks gravel baritone barked in response.

"Well, lucky for you I'm no cop. I'm MUCH worse. I'm the new head of the Disciplinary committee. And you three are in major trouble."

"Ooh why, I was just having a little fun."

"YA CALL WRECKIN' MAH CREW AND CALLING ME OUT FUN!" Derrick shouted.

"ENOUGH!!!" I roared. "I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU CALL IT! YOU HAVE DAMAGED PUBLIC PROPERTY, DISOBEYED THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT SCHOOL RULES AND HAVE BROKEN SEVERAL MINOR CITY LAWS!" I paused to let the words sink into them. "Soooo, unless you want to spend your entire year of school in detention I suggest. You. Start. Talking."

"Fine Ah'll be the first." Derrick started. "It started yesterday. Me an some of mah crew were hangin' around doin' what we do. When we heard a ruckus. I went to check it out and found some of mah crew had been trashed. Ah axed one a the conscious ones wha happened. He told me some hair chick was tearing up the turf. We started patrolin' and she called mah out today took out three of mah guys and chased me out the alley where we ran inta you."

'One person's story down two to go' I thought. "So who's sharing next."

"Ooh, Ooh, me, me." Melinda was jumping excitedly. "I'll go, I'll go."

"As long as you're honest go ahead." I warned

"Well You see I heard that one of the other members of the Fingers of God was in this neighborhood and I wanted to see what he was like and how strong he really was. Instead all I kept finding were weaklings claiming they were him. It really pissed me off so I beat em' up."

"One more testimony." I turned to bobby with a stare that said don't bullshit me.

"It really is like the Boss said. We tried to find the person who was hurting our friends and found her before I was knocked out."

"Well since you all seem to have answered honestly your punishment will be reduced." I turned to Melinda "You are having one month without powers, five weeks of detention, and three weeks of public service as you were the major force behind this idiocy. Derrick you will have three weeks without powers, four weeks of detention and a week and a half of public service as you damaged the street in our fight. Finally Bobby you are free to go as you were just dragged into this."

I turned my attention back to the other two. "You two are major players in this city and are on the track to being heroes that is why you have such long punishments. You chose to join the hero program and are being punished for not acting like it."
