Chapter 5: The engagement (2)

The ferocity in his voice scared Dimitri to his core. 'How could he save face in front of his leaders son?' He thought desperately. No one had realized that Lucien could read minds so, he had an advantage in this house. Lucien then sat down on the nearest seat and had a smug smirk, which in turn made Dimitri feel uneasy again. 'What's with that look? He's half my age yet I have to grovel at his feet.' He continued his thoughts without a care since they're 'his' thoughts alone.

They continued their silence for about five minutes before anyone spoke again. Lucien began, "I feel that I should warn you, going against my father or myself is no sunny day-" "W-what are you talking about I-I don't want to go against anyone" Dimitri interrupted and was forced to snivel like he was a worm. How embarrassing. The proud and dominant Dimitri was wasted away to an injured animal in less than a sentence. He had a phobia of going against the leader and he assumed the leaders son would be just as adept.

*Ding-dong, ding-dong* the doorbell rang.

*Ding-dong, ding-dong* it rang again.

"I better get that," Dimitri ran off toward the front door. The door was intricately made with large and small carvings. There was stained glass with beautiful colors on either side and above the door. The colors were laid out in an equally intricate pattern. The door was made of mahogany and had been taken care of well. Dimitri got to the door and opened it before the person on the other side could ring the bell again. Hannah was caught with her finger midair about to hit the doorbell again. "Oh, Mr. Brooks! Is Sera home!?!" Hannah exclaimed. "Calm down, yes she's home." Dimitri seemed annoyed when he responded to Hannah.

"Can I go up and see her?" Hannah asked. Dimitri didn't respond, but he nodded a few seconds later. Excited Hannah squealed and then bound up the stairs. Lucien looked on with amusement in his eyes, which brought on a sigh of relief to Dimitri. "Saved by the bell it seems. She has lively friends, doesn't she? Anyway let's continue." Lucien gestured toward the living room and Dimitri seemed resistant to go, but eventually went. "What's there to discuss? You already said I'm an idiot that sheltered my daughter too much," he grumbled as he walked past Lucien. With a raised eyebrow he responded, "we need to discuss the revelation of her true self and the details. We also need to discuss how we are planning on training her. I feel myself or father should train her so she may become her full potential."

Shock appeared on Dimitri's face because it typically was the birth father's right to train their children in all magical aspects. He knew that the best teacher would be Wes as he was the most knowledgeable of the coven. "I feel Wes would be the best choice for Seraphina and she should report to him as soon as possible." He quickly spoke up before Lucien could suggest himself. Now it was Lucien's turn to look surprised as he was hoping since he is the fiancé that he would be the one to teach her. "We will see if he has time, but I already know my schedule is quite open," he smiled at Dimitri.

Lucien was determined to be her teacher as he could teach her the way he wanted her to learn. He wasn't evil, yet he wasn't good either. He sometimes aired on the evil side, but he merely did things for him and no one else. In all honesty he hated being labeled and wanted to teach that very attribute to his future bride. So far Seraphina met most of his expectations, but her being 21 and not having magical knowledge was a giant downside. It would take at least three years to get her to half of him, unless she had natural magic which he possessed. Not all witches had it even when they were born of two natural witches. It was the luck of the draw it was a fifty/fifty chance. Natural magic made learning spells, talking to animals, and other tricks could be achieved relatively easy, but the danger of magic going awry was also higher.

Many witches were injured or even died due to injuries sustained during the riskier training methods that Lucien was thinking. The upside is that it could strengthen magic by fifty percent and make the time to achieve less. "I'll call my dad right now and ask his opinion." Lucien took out a phone and hit send.
