Chapter 2: How it Started (2)

The look of shock must have been all over her face because Lucien got a perplexed look on his face. "You know this house?" asked Lucien. Seraphina didn't know what to do because if she lied then he would somehow discover it and then she would be labeled as dishonest. Also if she told the truth then she would be forced to walk together with a stranger that made her feel uneasy. "Yeah, I only grew up in that house" she replied lazily. Upon hearing those words Lucien's spirits lifted and his eyes began to glimmer swaying trees in the sunlight. "Well, then I will follow you Miss Seraphina" Lucien smiled somewhat sinisterly.

"Actually, I prefer Sera," she blurted again. 'Why do I keep on saying things to him like that. It's like I have no control over my mouth.' she thought and sighed. She motioned for him to follow, but she was secretly hoping that he would change his mind. 'why am doing this? You don't like strange attractive men. Okay, you do, but you shouldn't willingly show a stranger to your house. Even if one of your parents invited them" She scolded herself. Sera felt that this moment was a scene from a movie where the main character's life is completely altered. Butterflies started fluttering up from her abdomen and then bubbling into her throat. Is this how it felt to walk next to such an enticing creature?

In all of the years she had been alive she never felt this exilerated and pensive at the same time. One may guess that in 21 years she hadn't gotten out much. During their journey, Lucien kept looking at her and made her feel very uncomfortable. "Is there something in my teeth? or did a bird shit on my sleeve?" She quizzed Lucien as if she were a teacher waiting for homework. He was quite taken aback and didn't know how to respond at first, but quickly replied, "I didn't know Luna had such a beautiful daughter and I was wondering if you would be joining us for the festivities this evening?" Luna was Seraphina's mother and was an exceptional beauty with an attitude to match. Seraphina was much like her in looks, but nothing like her in personality.

"I wasn't planning on it I was thi-" right as she was about to let Lucien know she wasn't interested he placed a finger on her lips gently. "I heard from your parents that this evening they were planning on officially introducing you to their friends," he smiled. Surprised she stared blankly at him. why would her parents need to do that? she had no interest in their activities and she avoided every single party they had since she was old enough to go. Now standing in front of an old Victorian style home she relaxed more and bound up the steps. "You are fairly early as the party doesn't start til around 8 p.m. and it's now 4:45 p.m." She now became aware of the time difference and skeptically expressed her opinion.

Lucien seemed rather nonchalant and replied, "Dimitri had some business he needed to discuss with me before any 'party' can begin." The air seemed to get colder after that last statement and Seraphina unconsciously shivered. 'why would they need to handle business before a party? or even for the party to take place? who the fuck is this Lucien exactly?' Her thoughts were going a thousand miles a minute as questions without answers kept invading her mind. Dimitri was the husband of Luna and also the father of Seraphina. He was a powerful man with a domineering personality. He walked as if he floated, but comanded respect as he entered a room. He was handsome and had a sophisticated lumberjack look.

One look from him whether it be good or bad, was enough to make the strongest man forget his strength. "I see that you've become acquainted," Dimitri boomed from the doorway. It made Sera jump and she almost fell if Lucien hadn't put out his arm to steady her. "It warms my heart to see you two getting along so well." He beamed and looked at the 'couple' expectantly. "Dad! He lost his way and I was helping him." Sera quickly explained. "Lost? Ha, he's been here more than a dozen times. I could bet money that he could find this place in his sleep." Dimitri laughed. Sera quickly shot a glare in Lucien's direction. If looks could kill he would have been dead five times over.
