CH.2 The Realization

When I was in the middle of a training I felt something surging inside my body. It felt 'Beastly', and before I was able to do anything. I felt that my mind went hazy.

My world then went black.

I awoke myself to hear the sound of the roar and cries of battle, the once beautiful Snowy Island was no more. I could see the debris of different season Island floating in the space. I could hear crackling fire above me, followed by the cries of a peacock.

A giant fight was happening.

I tried to circulate my magic and tried to get myself out from this mess before I could leave I saw a glimpse of a crack in space. Revealing three pair of eyes watching the battle, one of them the look over to my position. Which suddenly causes me to faint once more.

Heart-pounding, I woke up on a snowy plain, with a deep forest near it. With nowhere else to go I stumbled into the forest. I could feel the thrum of the forest around me shaking together with the snow creating a beautiful rhythm. The coldness that swirls around my body, as I advanced further into the forest I could felt the coldness penetrate my skin, my whole body being tampered by the coldness.

As I moved on, I could felt a sense of familiarity. It was strange but I felt attracted to something deeper in the forest. I wasn't on the island nor somewhere I'm familiar of. But this sense of ease, it's intoxicating. I kept on walking forward towards the source, not caring about my surrounding.

I found myself standing in front of a cave, it seems oddly familiar. I stared up, eyes wide as I stared up towards the sky with no sun. There's only a moon, shining brightly upon the forest which I didn't notice before.

I turned my heads towards the dark, gloomy cave which attracted me to go inside. I moved my legs and proceeded forward. Deciding that nothing worse could happen from entering the cave, at least I could stay inside the cave until I could escape this mysterious dream?

I had difficulty to see, which causes my other sense to go on overdrive to compensate for the lack of sight. When I couldn't take more of the darkness, I saw a pair of eyes looking at me.

It then summons a ball of light which lightens up the cave, there no more than 8 metres in front of me was an old man, that was familiar. His posture, his hair and his appearance alongside the scar over his right eye. Along with the sword that he holds and was planted beside him.

It's just impossible for him to be here, at least in this universe. There's no possible way, I paled thinking that I was just hallucinating.

The man?

One of the strongest and infamous pirate ever known.

The Dark King, Silvers Rayleigh

-Line Break-

"...Hello," I whispered feeling the nervousness boiling inside me.

He didn't respond and just stared at me, his eyes lifeless. His expression was unreadable. But I could see that his eyes squinted, annoyed with the light.

"Hello," He replied, he's not like the Rayleigh I know, his voice felt cold and tired. It just felt wrong.

I strengthen my will, "I'm Shiro."

He didn't give a response which sends chills moving back and forth in my spine.

"Are you okay?"

He gave a strained laugh. There's not a trace of maliciousness in it, and I felt myself being comforted from it. He then dismisses the ball of light, leaving us in relative darkness. I only barely made out of his figure.

"Are you?"

"I don't know," I replied, my voice low. My feelings still in a jumble, I felt uneasiness from that stare which could see deep into my soul, thankful for it in a certain instant. But meeting Rayleigh in this place just causes my feeling to escape the loop. I thought that I just needed to be strong enough to survive that I could exact my revenge to whoever massacred my family. But meeting him...

He seems broken, unfixable. Like a puppet with no string attached to it, free yet had no will. He seems like a man wanted to change a broken world.

I moved again, closer towards him, "...What may I call you?"

"...It doesn't matter."

Deciding not to ask more, I whispered," Surely you had a name."

For a moment I could saw him smile, "Names are just but a trivial thing, it fades away along with time. Slowly losing its meaning." I took a step closer.

"Then what word I could use to address you?"

"It doesn't matter." He replied in the same manner.

Moving closer I responded, "It does for me though."

A heartbeat passed then, "Peccator, you could call me Peccator."

"Sinner?" I raised an eyebrow, taking a few steps towards him." You're a sinner?"

"You could say that I was."

"But I found you, don't you want to repent?"

He snorted, "I had nothing to repent for."

I was close, a couple more steps and I would be able to touch him, "Are you lonely?"

He kept quiet for a while, then asked: "How old are you?"

"Truthfully? A few days."

Like there's nothing weird he chuckled, "You speak oddly well for someone whose been here for a few days."

"Of this time?" I quoted back

"It would've been expected for you to act such in during my time," Rayleigh said while remembering the past.

I took a stride towards him. It was weird, it was strange. I must've been crazy, yet somehow I still willingly moved closer towards him. Alone in the dark, yet I don't know where I was. I felt that I was completely at the mercy of Rayleigh... it was by choice. Still, I don't seem to be bothered with it.

There's no motivation, nor any scheming, his eyes void of life. His voice contains no deceit, like everything that I knew, was a fabricated one and he had seen what I couldn't.

He was a youthful man once...

But now he's just a remnant of his past self

A shadow waiting to be dispersed by the time

Yet the world doesn't heed his wishes

He's a very tired old man

And I... I

I felt like him, a tired old man.
