Chapter 8: Ender's Story
Ender looked around. "One second," he said before running to the opposite direction of the two. No way in hell would he talk with them. His mind was not ready to face both.
Unfortunately, no matter where Ender went, Meliodas or Merlin blocked him.
"Come on, Ender, just sit down and talk with us." Meliodas tried to calm Ender down.
Ender began to hyperventilate, trying not to panic, but he clearly was not ready to have a chat with his best friend.
"Talk? There is nothing to talk about between you and me. You do your thing and I do mine. Now let me go!"
Ender talked fast, almost mad as he ran again but was stopped. "Or what, Ender? Are you going to fight us?" mocked Merlin.
Ender started to get angry: "Oh, you be quiet, little girl. You have no idea what I lived through and the best thing you should do is let me go!"
Ender's violet eyes glowed like fire as he made another attempted to flee.
Meliodas tried not to escalate the situation: "Ender. Just tell us what happened to you. I didn't realize that you couldn't be sealed in the coffin, so that means you have lived 3000 years. I saw how you looked during the Holy War. Nobody can live so long without losing their minds many times over. You need help. So please tell us. Why have you not talked to us?"
Ender started laughing like a madman as he glared at Meliodas:
"Talk? TALK!? Do you think I didn't want to talk to you! I have spent the last 3000 years wandering aimlessly through Britania only to be pulled by my curse to some random bull*** direction to see you going crazy while Elizabeth died in your hands. Do you think I didn't want to help you ease the pain? So you think I didn't want to go to you and tell you I was alive. No, there was a single simple reason.
I COULDN'T!" screamed Ender as tears came down his face.
Meliodas and Merlin looked at Ender, who started to cry:
"Why?" asked Meliodas the important question.
Ender started to cry: "That is a good question. Why? It was because I was close to you two! During the end of the Holy War, when you two fought your parents, they dragged me to see your fight many times over and over again in my mind. Then both of them cursed me for what I had done. A demon, like me, to be friends with another demon and a Goddess was unacceptable to them.
They cursed me to watch both of you every time Elizabeth died not being able to say or walk to you two. For 3000 years, I had to watch it. After the mental torture of seeing you fight, they brought me back to where I was. Do you know where they brought me to was? It was to the fighting ground of one of the last battles of the Holy War!"
Ender looked at Meliodas: "Meliodas, I have never seen so much blood in my whole life. When the demon clan was sealed by the rest of the clans, they tried to do it to me.
And you know what Meliodas, I WANTED TO BE SEALED AWAY! I WANTED TO BE TOGETHER WITH THE OTHERS. My one true love, Melascula, is in that seal."
Ender's eyes were red of tears: "You had to watch your loved one die repeatedly. I know how you have felt as I had to see from the sidelines how one of my best friends died repeatedly and the other friend cried his heart out, unable to help while also being unable to see my loved one because she is in some kind of fucked up seal. But because of that stupid commandment, I couldn't be sealed.
I didn't know what happened that day. I forgot about it. I closed my memories many times to forget. I cried for many days and nights. I don't know how many times I lost my mind, to be brought back to sanity by the darkness and then to lose it again and again. I cried when you lost Elizabeth. I cried as I was useless, a coward. That's what people called me and it is true."
Both Meliodas and Merlin were quiet. They didn't know was to say.
That's when Ender smiled: "The reason I can talk with you right now means that they lifted the curse, but the damage had already been done. I am not the one you knew before. People change. I changed in 3000 years. I am only a shell of my former self. I would say I could talk with you after what happened in Danafor."
Meliodas's eyes widened as he looked at me.
Ender smirked: "What? Do you think I didn't know? I was there. I saw you both walking around so happily. Holding hands and not thinking about the doom that was already there. You even heard me but dismissed it. I watched Liz die and you going mad, destroying the whole kingdom. Earning the Sin of Wrath. You know that is not even the worst thing."
Merin and Meliodas got curious. What would be worse than watching your friend die?
Ender looked at Meliodas.
"I knew the killer of Liz."
Merlin looked between Meliodas and Ender and saw that Meliodas had ambivalent feelings. He was lost and didn't know what to do.
"I knew the person who did it and even talked with him before that. I told the person he would regret it but my curse prevented me from doing anything."
Ender started to chuckle: "The funny thing is that we both know him."
Merlin was the one who asked: "And who would want to do that to Meliodas?" Ender tried to say his name but something in his mind prevented it.
"Ender tell me, who was it!" demanded Meliodas.
"You don't know?" asked Merlin.
Meliodas shook his head: "I was so much in a rage that I forgot everything after that."
Ender tried again, but he couldn't form words. Merlin was amused as observed Ender.
"He can't tell you. They did not lift the curse, it is only partly undone. Ender probably can't tell you most of his life when he observed you."
Ender looked down: "And that is for the best. I swore to myself that I won't interact with you. Not before I can handle myself so say hi to Ban and King for me would ya."
Ender used the moment as both were thinking and used his whole strength to run to the door and teleport out but not before saying:
"We will meet again when I have myself under control. I just hope it is during the time when the girl is ready to leave."
