Chapter 2: Chapter Two

What?

I'm not going crazy. No. I know I felt someone's intense gaze boring into the back of my head. I slowly turn back inward where the table was. Otterton giggled and puts a hand on my back "I'll see you Monday, maybe." He then squeezed me, and I squeezed back. I promise you I heard a growl behind me but I ignored it. Maybe I am that tired, I pull away and wave him goodbye as he walked out the school doors. But I wait so I don't awkwardly bump into anyone else. I look down and fiddle with my fingers, yes. I am tired..

I step out school, shielding my eyes. Absolutely exhausted, I slowly walk along the other colorful shirts and people chatting, I helplessly eavesdrop on people's conversations. I rub my eyes at the blazing sun in October. Why can't it be colder? I walk to the sidewalk, smiling at the dancing golden crisps flowing down to the sleeping leaves. I catch a small yellow leaf, lightly tracing the stem. I hold it to the sun, watching it shine through the leaf. Pretty..

I set it down, letting it spin until it settles down with the rest. I like the calm walks, it clears all the things i've seen, also relaxes me. I step into the a small suburban street and walk down a corner where a medium-sized blue painted house was. I smile lightly and make my way up the dirty concrete steps, then bent down to look at a old deer. The paint was wore and chipped, and the deer's mouth that was posed to yawn endlessly. I pet it's head, my mom allowed me to name it Bambi after she repainted to look like him. I took out the small key from inside it's mouth. Then gently scoped him up as if he was real. I unlock the door and slip off my shoes, gripping the deer close to me. Then, I slip off my book bag. Dug in the fridge to take a cheese-stick out. I glance at Bambi, then to the stick. "Hungry?" I say, as if he'd awaken from his eternal position and answer back.

I smile lightly when he doesn't answer, then make my way up the stairs quietly as if I would make a noise a monster would come from nowhere.

Using my shoulder to open my room door, I take a bite of my cheese stick, setting Bambi down lightly beside my tv settled upon the dresser. I lay down on my bed, staring up at the ceiling like I always do, and every day after that.

"I wonder what it would be like if you were there." I whisper and dangle my hand from my bed, grabbing a family photo to look at a smiling man. It seemed to be the happiest day of his life, the golden swirled frame seem to match his expression. His eyes grey, but filled with joy. His hair was messy, and a dark brown. As if he had to rush to work and had barely enough time to make it. There, clinging to his stomach as he crouched and doing a goofy upside down smile with a missing tooth, eyes dark brown and hair braided also jet black, a girl to also have the most happiest day of her life. I lightly smile, closing my eyes as I remembered the day clear as a blue sky.

"Daddy! Are we giving mommy the picture for her birthday tomorrow?!" The girl said. Her father bent down and chuckled "Yes! But we have to be quiet, or else she'll be suspicious of our deeds-" he scooped her up and chuckled, hugging her. She squealed and giggled, burying her face into his shoulder. In the background, the camera man exclaimed "Smile~"

'Click!'

As the camera flashed white in my eyes, I blink back to reality, immediately realizing tears were flowing and wiped them away, sucking up a breathe. I set the picture back on the small table, then looked out the window. Storm clouds covered the sky, and leaves shake, falling from fear of the wind. I stood, patting Bambi as I walked by and grabbed my sweater neck, slipping it over my head. I walked down the steps, quickly putting on my pink and black Balance shoes. I close the door behind me as I left, skipping all the steps to go do my daily forest walks. It's even better when it's darker, and time to rain. To me, even if I get wet it's very calming. I go behind my house, to smile up at a mini forest that practically engulfed half of the suburban. If you kept going straight, you'd probably end up right in front of Walmart. I keep my head held high as I walk the forest. I belong here. I really, really do. My hand grazes against a tree, that tower before me like the rest. I smile at the squirrel hopping from branch to branch, spreading it's arms out like it was ready to take flight. A robin chirps happily ahead, the golden brown leaves rustle and sway to the wind in a classical dancing fashion. I plop right where I always do, on a boulder, every day I come out here. Where a small glistening blue pond was. I even made a friend here.

A rustle in the small bush made me snap out of my trance. A white snout pokes out. Then a full fox. Oh yeah, I forgot to tell that he was my friend. Three years ago, I sat in the same spot I sit at now, the same bush rustled, but a smaller fox had appeared out of it. He was a Kit when I found him. I didn't usually mess with nature, or Kits. Because the mother is always around. But the kit didn't seem fed, it was very pale and shaken. Since I was an animal lover for a very long time, note that I still am. I couldn't let the thing starve. So, I let it nibble on the left over salmon I ate. Every day, until I was able to show it how to catch mice and fend for itself, which was incredibly hard. Now, ever since that day I left him alone, I let him come to me whenever he felt like it. Which was, every day I was here.

I smile, giving the fox my hands. He was red, but splashes of white and black covered his paws, snout, and tail. He was smaller than an average male fox. I named him, even if whatever wild animal you name will have you attached. But I couldn't help myself. I had named him Foldy because of his small folded ear-tip. But call him Pax from a book. He wagged his tail happily and launched himself into my arms, I squeal and hug him lightly as he attacked my face with licks. Just like a dog would, he waits for me every day. Even if I tell him he's wild and can't stay, he does. So he's a house pet. But I never gave him a collar. I scratch behind his ears, where one out of his multiple favorite spots for me to scratch. After some welcome backs, we sat in peace, letting the gentle drops of rain hit me and his dirty fur.

Peace..
