Chapter 115: The Prelude of the Battle of Guandu

Yun was riding to Boma as fast as possible followed by his five riders making it almost biblical for him if there were only four riders following him at the moment.

Yun was having a bad feeling the whole time and now he knew why in the book from which he learned about the history of the Three Kingdoms Gongsun Zan would have survived until before Liu Bei took over the Xu Province from Cao Cao creating a little distraction on which Yuan Shao wouldn't jump at but things have changed by him being in Cao Cao's ranks.

In the meantime in Ye, Yuan Shao was sitting on his chair surrounded by his strategist who were advising him to launch an attack immediately for a long time but Yuan Shao seemed to ignore their advice.

"It needs to be a crushing defeat that shows the whole Empire that nobody should ever mess with Yuan Shao or the Yuan Clan," says Yuan Shao arrogantly thinking that he had already won this battle since Yun and his army were fighting in the East trying to retake the Xu Province.

Yuan Shao is an elegant tall man around 1,8m tall, with long black hair and a small elegant mustache. He is sitting on a big chair resembling the Dragon Throne the Emperor would normally sit when a man with long black hair which had some gray strains in it consulted him.

"My Lord, you shouldn't underestimate the intelligence of our enemies. They have proven time and time again that they are innovative with their strategist and use of people," says Xun You warning Yuan Shao of the danger he wasn't taking seriously.

"I don't fear anyone," says Yan Liang arrogantly thinking that Yun and Lu Bu aren't a challenge to him.

Yan Liang is a man taller than Yuan Shao with messy short hair and a messy short beard showing that he was more brawn than brain. Across him was a man as tall as him with long black hair and a muscular body but was the clear opposite of Yan Liang.

"I am with Xun You, we should attack now that we have the opportunity," says Zhang He supporting Xun You since it was madness to wait for the enemy to regroup.

He knew better than anyone how intelligent Yun is since they fought once together. Yun might not remember him but he would never forget Yun sitting on the stairs leading up the walls while two heads were dangling from his belt.

They were both nameless soldiers back then but Yun gained a lot of reputation from their first war while Zhang He remained unknown until he joined Yuan Shao.

"We shouldn't overestimate our opponents either. General Zhao still needs to stabilize his rule in the Xu Province which will take him some time," says Wen Chou thinking that Xun You and Zhang He were giving too much credit to Yun.

"We will begin our attack in one and half months by attacking Boma," says Yuan Shao before he turns to Xun You and says, "Send a letter to Yuan Shu. He should stir some trouble for Cao Cao throughout the south. It will grant me a more legitime reason to attack Cao Cao if he dies while doing so."

"Yuan Shu is in no position to help us. He is already at his last straw and he might try to escape Shouchun really soon to find shelter in Ye after everyone turned his back on him for declaring himself as the next Emperor," Xun You trying to make Yuan Shao see reason and attack now but Yuan Shao didn't want to hear anything of it.

"He is a Yuan. He will do what is expected of him," says Yuan Shao arrogantly again thinking the whole world was spinning around him and not the other way around.

A month and a half passed and Yuan Shao and his army were now stationed in Liyang. He sent Yan Liang and his army to attack Boma which lays behind the Yellow River against Xun You's advice not to do so.

Cao Cao was prepared for this attack as he sent Yu Jin and Yue Jin to Boma to evacuate the civilians while sending a battalion to the Yan Fort following Xun Yu's advice of taking the enemy's eyes from their main objective which was the evacuation of Boma.

Yuan Shao jumped without thinking about it and lead his army to Yan Fort without even listening to Xun You's advice of reinforcing Yan Liang who would be cut off if they marched for Yan Fort.

Yuan Shao didn't care at all thinking that Yan Liang would be able to deal with the situation in Boma as they take care of Cao Cao at the Yan Fort.

In the meantime near Boma, six riders arrived at the outskirts of Boma hiding their presence in their surroundings. One of them was using binoculars as he looked at Boma and the siege it was placed in.

"It seems my gut feeling was right," says the leader as his face and body was covered in cloths like the other riders.

"My Lord, we should wait for reinforcement from Puyang. Your father and brother-in-law should arrive in five days," says one of the riders worried that his Lord would do something reckless as always.

"I agree with him, we shouldn't attack now. We are at a disadvantage and the enemy could send reinforcement at any moment," says another rider when the Leader only smiles at the two.

"What does the rest think about attacking now?" asks the Leader looking at the other three riders.

"I will follow you anywhere, brother, even into death," says one of the riders with resolution behind his words, meaning what he just said.

"And you two?" asks the Leader of the other two.

"I fought worse odds before and you wouldn't send us to death if you aren't sure that we can win this battle," says one of them.

"I will follow my General anywhere he goes," says the other, and the Leader turned to the other two who wanted to wait for reinforcement.

"It seems, we are four to two for the attack on the enemy. We will need to sleep together to keep us warm tonight since we won't ignite a campfire to not alert the enemy and our allies," says the Leader to them all.

They dismounted their horses and opened camp waiting for the next day to arrive as they all slept together to keep themselves warm using their body heat.

The next morning arrived fast and they could spectate the siege even better now that the sun was illuminating the battlefield and the Leader pointed at the right flank of their enemy while saying, "We will penetrate their formation from there and fight our way towards the leading General and kill him. The army will fall apart after we sever its head."

"We will be right behind you," says one of the riders feeling already exhausted because of their Leader's recklessness.

They mount their horses and ride a bit North to align with the right flank before charging into the enemy. Both armies see the six madmen ride into the right flank and Yu Jin who was on the wall didn't know what was going nor did Yan Liang who was in the middle of the formation.

The Leader of the six riders was holding a spear as did the person beside him while the other person beside him was holding two one-handed pikes in his hands.

Another rider was wielding a guandao, while the other two were wielding a two-handed halberd and two one-handed halberds as they rushed into Yan Liang's right flank.

They could only see one black banner which was stripped to the Leader's back it wasn't readable until they were close enough and Yan Liang's army could read the banner on which stood 'Zhao'.

It was Yun who arrived at the battlefield with his five riders. Yun pointed his spear at the enemy and concentrated Qi around himself as did Thunder making a blue aura surround them as they crashed into the enemy flank sending at least twenty men flying from the impact.

Thunder was trampling over the enemy opening a way for the other riders as they followed the horse-and-man duo killing their way towards Yan Liang who came face-to-face with what Zhang He, Tian Feng, and Xun You warned Yuan Shao and the others about.

The killing intent the six riders gave from themselves was overwhelming which seemed to paralyze his army when he sees a halberd aim for his head. Yan Liang used his guandao to deflect the attack over his head and he came to face one of the greatest warriors china had ever produced, Lu Bu.

Lu Bu has a smile on his face because he got first to Yan Liang which means that it was his duel and nobody else would meddle in it.

"I will give you some credit for deflecting my attack. But now I will make serious," says Lu Bu excited as his Qi began to surround his body and halberd in a red aura.

Yan Liang didn't even think or said anything as he swung his guandao which was covered in brown Qi at Lu Bu while Lu Bu swung his halberd at Yan Liang with all his might.

Yan Liang felt that he got a good hit on Lu Bu when he suddenly feels like he was falling slowly from his horse.

Lu Bu felt disappointed as he turned to Yan Liang seeing his weapon being cleanly cut diagonally by the shaft in two as was Yan Liang's upper body which fell to the ground followed by his horse which was decapitated as well.

"What a disappointment," shouts Lu Bu loudly making everyone near him hear what he had to say as he dismounts his horse without fear of his enemy to decapitate the corpse of his enemy.

He straps it to his belt before mounting his horse again looking at the enemy troops while saying with a smile on his face, "You either surrender or flee but if we meet on the battlefield again I will kill you."

This sentence was supported by the chaos Yun and the others were generating on the battlefield as they could see the other five riders and horses covered in the blood of their enemies which made the army surrender to them.
