Chapter 9: Returning home
At the pond,
Shi was going to speak to Amm after recollecting her courage that Amm's phone rang.
It was of her mother, Fu Lan. She has got the news about her daughter's marriage from her husband and quickly called her daughter to become the first one to give her this shock and be with her.
" Hello, Amm are you busy today? ", she asked casully like nothing has happened.
" No, mother. Today was my last lecture of this semester which is done. Is there anything important? ", she said in a blank tone.
" Yes. I wish you to directly come home. Your father has sent an helicopter to pick you up. Without any second thoughts just return to us. Do you understand? "
" Yes, but mom my work here is still pending. How can I leave it in between. "
" I don't want to listen to any excuse I want you back home for... "
She was there to blurt out the truth but she could not as she wanted to tell her daughter face to face. So she stopped mid way.
" I just want to back"
The phone than hang up. Leaving both mother and daughter tensed. Mother was tensed as she was thinking about her child and daughter was tensed because of the strange behavior of her mother. Amm's expression fell into daze.
Shi noticed it and asked. "what's the matter? Is everything alright? "
" No mother seemed a bit unhappy and somewhat sad. I think something has happened in the family. That's why she is callings me back."
" She didn't tell you anything... did she? "
" No just... wait what has she tell to me?
what do you know, Shi? Is there any gossip about this all happened in university on media or something happened to my family? Tell me Shi, what are hiding from me? "
" Nothing " Shi said in a blow. She wanted to tell her friend the truth but understood that her family should be the one to tell her about her marriage.
Moreover she needed time to accept her situation of being confessed.
Coming back to it , to divert her friend's thoughts she asked " Why did you just blank out on his words? "
" What? " M asked in amazement that her friend suddenly changed the subject of talk. She let her to do this . As being a good friend she didn't want her to fall in tough situation at any cost due to her.
" I know you were not blanked by his confession to you but his words made you somewhat uneasy, didn't they? "
" What nonsense are you talking. I was surly surprised by his sudden love confession as for two reasons : first, I never have been confessed and second, I never thought that the person who was my rival for best student title and with whom I somewhat quarrel always will actually say to me that he likes me . It was just astonishing. " She avoided her gaze by turning her face.
Shi knew after seeing her looks and gaze been swept away that her friend was lieing to her. She again asked by going in front of her and holding her arms and making her see in her eyes.
" Are you damn sure about this? I know that those strange words did happen to make you loose your thinking, didn't they? Have you heard them before? "
Amm fell into deep thought what to say to her best friend as she had easily detected her lie and also felt guilty in making her go in darkness of lies.
" Heard them before ? I was the one who changed the colour of the sun from yellow to.. because it was my favourite back then when he had asked me if I like him.
Unlike others who said they like him or her, he came to me and asked if I liked him or not and want to be friends with him ", she thought.
This part of her life was known to none except for her soul and him.
'Has he returned? Is Yoko ? No he can't be him. I am damn sure. But I don't know the truth. It's better to avoid Yoko if he is or not.'
She was thinking but being shaken by Shi made her come back to the present.
" What! Don't just think, spit it out "
" Who is thinking about what ? " She asked like having no clue.
" You are truly good at acting and pretending but can't hide it from me. "
" Who is pretending in front of great drama queen who has actually won a prize in history of the the Gate in the Inter-Univercity acting competition. " she said in a joking way.
" You... "
It all turned into a laughing talk of friends, joking and enjoying the beautiful landscape. They forgot about everything until they heard noise of approaching helicopter.
" Shi, I forgot it. I have to go. But I haven't packed or taken anything yet and not told teacher about my absence . What shall I do? Helicopter is already her to fetch me. "
she asked looking up the sky.
" Don't worry. I will talk to the professor and apologize making some excuse on your behalf. I will pack your things just send some one to fetch them, you shall go now without wasting ant time. I will inform the authorities also to give you a month leave."
" OK. Thanks Shi. but how do You know it will take me a month absence ? "
" Why are you always so anxious about my words. I just guessed. Is it wrong? Now go. There will surly be a commotion when people will see that in this estate a helicopter is landing to fetch , a socially funded ugly girl. "
" Yes, you are right . OK. Bye see you " she hugged Shi and left abruptly for the helipad.
If her helicopter was here, then her family would surly have taken special permission which only some few people can do. She thought while leaving the pond view.
Shi with a calm expression sat on the bench seeing her friend leaving and thought of her expression on knowing about her marriage. She prayed to God for her well being and that everything would go smoothly.
