Chapitre 6

"You should know how hard it is to adjust to this reality of seeing you look at me as if I were a stranger to you once again," Death whispered brokenly.

Death's side brought tears in her eyes. She never knew someone had the patience to wait that long. The courage and will it took for him to admire her from afar. Not to be able to touch the one you love is already plain torture, how much more if that person fails to remember who you are.

"I'm sorry for not recovering my memories sooner, my love," she said. The endearment, it seemed so right for her to say that. But she knew better.

He shook his head, "no. It's not your fault. I deserve this. I deserve to be alone."

She walked towards him yet still kept a safe distance, "no one deserves to be alone. Even the evilest person deserves someone as much as good people do. In your case, you have me. You have me yet we can't be together."

Life seemed smarter and wiser now, and Death was proud of it. He felt like he was one of the reasons why she did. If he hadn't decided to sacrifice his time with her and stayed away, who knows what might happen again. Maybe history would repeat itself. And he doesn't want that. This time, he learned what was essential, right, and just. And that is sacrifice. Sacrifice the things you love for even better rewards. He sacrificed his love for her and in return, he witnessed something great. Life grew wiser, she knew that they will never be together. She will always be the sun, and he, the moon. Whenever he is gone, she is there. And whenever she is gone, he is there. They are like two parallel lines, never too meet each other's ends.

Their love might have ended badly but he learned the most sine qua non thing about living. They both did.

Love isn't always about being happy with the person you are in love with. Maybe, just maybe, sometimes it meant sacrificing your happiness for the freedom of your love. Not all of us get to have our own happy endings, but at least, we were given the ending we all deserved. It may not be happy but at least, the journey made you happy, even if it was just for a short while.

We must accept our fate and wherever the journey of life takes us.

And so, that night, under the mercy of the cold, pale moonlight and twinkling stars. Under the same tree, Life and Death bid each other goodbye, accepting whatever their fate was. And that is, they will never be together. Life will always come after death, and never will these two meet. When life is gone, death takes place. And whenever it's time for a new life, death leaves and life supersedes death. This is the cycle of life, never will these two meet again.

This was a legend of love and pain. A legend of how life and death came to be. How life and death are two different things. Life and death are two essential things. Yet we must know we can't have both. We must all know that no matter how essential something is, there would always be a catch. For Life and Death's part, they are two important souls yet they are destined not for each other, but to be alone forever.

This was a story of how Life and Death were one; when the birds used to sing enchanting melodies of love and hope; when the clouds used to cry tears clearer than of diamonds; when the sun used to shine brighter than a thousand fireflies; when the flowers used to bloom so beautifully and not wilt; when the world was just so young. And these all happened... Once upon a time.
