I must have fallen asleep again, because I woke up to the sun shinning threw my bedroom window. Did I really miss sunrise? I never missed the sun rise, not once...
I sit up n bed, half of my room illuminated by the slowly rising sun. It took my eyes a second to adjust to the light. Did I dream about calling Walter? So many questions circled my head as I stared forward out the window.
A knock came at my door. " Hannah! Wake up for school." my mothers voice said threw the door. she sounded rushed and trying to hurry.
I sprang from my bead to find clothes. " What do people here wear?"
"Is it like back home?" " Are they all gonna speak German or English?" Millions of thoughts rushed threw my head. "Are they gonna like me?' " Am I gonna make friends?" my thoughts weren't comforting me if anything only making me nervous for the day ahead. I quickly change in a small skirt and a white shirt. Tucking it in, I sighed " Hope they like this." I searched for my sandals but settled on some flat dress shoes.
I walk out of my room and down stairs into the kitchen. My brothers sat at the table eating cereal. "Good morning sissy!" They say in unison in perfect German.
" Good morning brothers." I respond my voice joyful even though I was not exited for the day ahead of me.
" Do start to use English please." my mother say politely in English.
I stare at her wondering what she had said.
" Yes mama!" Eric says staggering over his English. Alex seemed to be in the same bout as me.
I grab an apple and my backpack. I look at my mother. She seemed brighter and was actually smiling for once, her smile could easily light up a whole room. My mother was beautiful inside and out.
My brothers laughed and giggled at the table. Whispering things to each other in German. I smiled seeing their goofy expressions. My family seemed happier here, much happier.
I examined my apple before putting it back. I wasn't hungry my nervousness had gotten the best of me. My mother turned to me. " Hannah.' She says, her face seemed calm but also cold at the same time leaving me on edge on what she was going to say. " I think we moved here for a reason.' Her German perfect.
I smile and nod in agreement this place really did feel like home.
