Chapter 31: Dog Shit Luck

With no worries for security the Nyasanga Clan entered a period of rapid development. They had a a development blueprint provided by a God after all, and his ideas were indeed very novel. During this period a new function for the sphere in the middle of the central square was introduced. With a certain ritual performed, The sphere would glow radiant colours like a rainbow, and following the interpretation, one could tell their cultivation talent from the colours their aura conjured. A large process then ensued to test the talents of the whole clan. The majority of villagers got a brown hue when they contacted the sphere. This was the sign of an Earth root, and a suitability for cultivating earth techniques. This reinforced Philip's deduction about the clan but with everything there are always exceptions. A few people including Chief Saito and Tony, one of the youngsters, had a red glow mixed in with their brown. This meant they had talent for earth and fire techniques. Another of the youngsters Timothy had a silvery hue in his brown,a sign of wind talent. Wilson actually lacked a brown hue all together and had a pure blue, a water root. Another offshoot was Steve who had a black hue mixed in the brown, the rare metal root. But none gave people a shock like Brian, who had all five colours of red, blue, silver, brown, and black jump out in a vibrant display. Like a testimony to his talent the light show was even more extravagant that the other youths. This was an ultra rare five element root, and even Philip was surprised. This was a super rare talent even in the broader Starry Sky. Basically whatever element he pursued he would have talent in, but that was actually a waste of the five element root. The true use was cultivating the powerful five element techniques that attacked with mixed elemental power. Impossible to cultivate without the talent, these techniques guaranteed a human powerhouse, if well nurtured. However in Philip's eyes this was not the most impressive person of the test. One girl his age actually failed to get a hue whatsoever. The little girl Meredith was tested 3 times to be sure, but there was no reaction from the sphere. The only failure among the lot, the elders were about to hide this shame from Philip and banish her only for him to appear personally to collect her himself. "In future anyone else who fails to get a result at all can be considered to have the highest passing grade." He had completely forgotten about this matter. The talent inspection feature of the sphere could only fail on one instance. It could not detect a chaos root. Over the myriad years, such tools had a reputation for a "once in a blue moon failure" of more than one in almost tens of millions. Every once in a while, rare as it may be, someone would take the test and get no result at all. The designers basically concluded that these exceptions to the norm were simply born with a super rare lack of cultivation talent. But Mithamo knew better after his extensive research into Chaos Qi. There simply was no way for such tools that were cored around the Elemental Qi to detect the superior Qi. Thus they would just not detect anything at all. This in turn turned the most talented people in the Starry Sky, into the biggest wastes imaginable. They were considered non cultivators, and not being cast off was the best outcome they could hope for in a cultivation family. "What a nice little clan this is." Philip said as he looked at Meredith whom he had escorted back to his cave. For a clan to have not one but two chaos roots, this was indeed a mega jackpot. Philip himself had the full package of a chaos root and soul. After close inspection,he concluded that the girl only had a chaos soul, with a rather standard earth root like the rest of the clan. Since the soul was chaos attributed, the tool couldn't detect the earth root properly, and she failed. "Not bad, not bad." Philip continued to be impressed. "Young lady, are you willing to pursue the depths of cultivation together for eternity?" he suddenly inquired. Meredith was flabbergasted. She may only be eight years old but she knew what a marriage proposal sounded like. She had eavesdropped enough gossip by her elder sisters after all. As there gob smacked Philip couldn't help but chuckle "I'll take that as a yes. Run along and tell your parents. The elders will prepare the ceremony." Meredith still with a gaping mouth nodded blankly and walked out of the cave in a daze. She could not understand what had just happened in there. One moment she was being inspected like a rare specimen and the next the young master was proposing marriage. Only when she was shaken back to her senses by her clearly frightened mother did Meredith notice she had walked all the way home. Not only here mother, all her friends and relatives were crowded around her. "How did it go sweety." Meredith's mother enquired. "He...The Young Master wants to marry me. Why me?" She replied in a daze. A small bomb seemed to have feel in the room. " Are you sure?" Meredith's father asked in a stern voice. He was almost jumping out of his boots in freight. Just what the hell was this? It was like a pie,or a rather a God falling from the sky and being his son in law. This luck, wasn't it a little too good? "Congratulations Bradley, I always knew your household was destined for greatness." Brian's father who was Elder and always the opportunistic fellow, was quick to fawn over him. This set of a wave of congratulations from the others present, mixed in with envy and resignation in kind. This was some dog-shit luck if ever there was one.
