Chapter 19: Truth
Mikayla sitting straight to hear the discussion.
"Mikayla, I have decided for you to stay here with the Duke Alaric Blade. He can protect you and in fact, I want the vampire community to protect you. My friend here Alaric is one of the Duke of the Vampire continent," said Kent.
Mikayla startle to hear this. They are on the Vampire continent? They were teleported that far. How many magic power they use to teleport here directly? This world is very big and up until now they only explore forty percent of this world. But it can accommodate all the major races in this world. Vampire races is one of the major races in this world followed by dwarf, elves, human werewolf, mermaid and magical beast that regain intelligent. There are seven continents and each races control one continent. The Wing Tribe as its name, it only a small tribe in this world but after the big war five hundred years ago they leave their nest in the mountains and join the fray under the human banner.
"I will adopt Mikayla," said Alaric. Kent is surprised to hear this. Even though Alaric willing to help him, he did not have to adopt Mikayla. Is there something about Mikayla that he did not know?
Mikayla turns his head towards Alaric with disbelief. (I will be adopted by a vampire? Will my blood be sucked dry by this family?) All the gore and bloody scene appear in Mikayla mind.
"Alaric, are you sure about this. I will..." said Kent before Alaric cut his sentence "I'm sure, he will be under my care." Kent scrutinizes Alaric expression but he just sees a calm face.
"Must I stay here? I can't follow you Kent?" said Mikayla.
Facing with Mikayla worry faces, Kent said "No, The Knight is searching me. Right now I'm probably a Grade S criminal and will be hunted. It is not suitable for you to follow me. I can hide in the mountain or the deep sea but you can't. You are still growing. You need to attend school and learn how to use your magic power properly. You need to live comfortably. I did not save you so that you become a fugitive with me.
The Vampire is powerful and not many dares to go against them. Human fears the vampire and they will never do anything to provoke them. I'm surprised with Alaric decision to adopt you. You probably contain some secret that I did not know. "As he turns his head to see Alaric.
Alaric smiles at Kent but did not give him any answer. "Mikayla, don't worry we the vampires did not drink blood recklessly. We have our human population for us to harvest blood. Besides, The Wing Tribe blood is exotic and not a popular choice for us."
Mikayla gulped hearing that his blood is exotic. Alaric suddenly appears in front Mikayla and sniffs him. "Your blood is smelled a mixture of human blood and Wing blood. It is intoxicating."
"Alaric!" Kent warned Alaric. "If you want to adopt Mikayla for his blood it is better for him to follow me."
"How long have you known me? I'm just intrigued by his blood. My favourite is pure human blood. I did not want to adopt him because of his blood. I want him for another reason. I unable to prove it yet but I am sure that Mikayla will bring a surprise for me," said Alaric.
"What about your family? They will never agree to accept him in the family," said Kent.
"I can handle it and I'm sure they will love Mikayla," said Alaric with a mysterious smile. Mikayla shudder seeing Alaric's smile. (Is this what they said out from the frying pan, into the fire? Kent! I rather hide in the mountain and in deep-sea with you.) Mikayla is helpless and only hope for the best. He believes in Kent because Kent is the only person he can trust after all the things have happened.
The discussion ended with Mikayla being adopted into the Blade family. Alaric also promises to make sure none of his family member harm Mikayla.
That night Kent and his people stay over at Alaric's mansion. The boys under Kent didn't dare to behave recklessly anymore and control their behaviour in front of their boss. The night is very lively. More servants comes out at night than in the daylight.
Mikayla is full of curiosity and ask Gerald about this. He said that at night the vampire life begins so of course, it will be lively. Gerald also said he needs to get used to these changes.
"But you are still awake when we come here," said Mikayla.
"Oh! Master is actually busy doing his job and did not sleep yet," said Gerald.
"Is he going to be fine?" ask Mikayla. Gerald is pleased with Mikayla question. He did not approve when his master wanted to adopt Mikayla but seeing that Mikayla is worried about his master he thought that it might be good for this child to accompany his master. At least he will be interested in building a family.
"Master is a noble vampire and did not need to sleep frequently like the other low-level vampire," said Gerald.
"That great. Gerald, did you know where Kent room is?" ask Mikayla
"His room is not on this floor. He is on the second floor. If you want to see him go down and ask the maid on the second floor." said Gerald.
"Okay. Thank you, Gerald," said Mikayla.
Mikayla goes to the second floor and found Kent room. He knocks the door and Kent opens the door.
"It's you, Mikayla. Come in," said Kent.
Mikayla enter the room and sit on the chair. Kent sits in front of Mikayla said, "You probably want to ask me about Maria, right?"
"Yes and about my connection with her," said Mikayla.
Kent sigh and begin to tell Mikayla the story " Maria used to be human, she is one of the experiment subject that being conducted by the government. It involves many factions, the true reason for this research is to find the secret regarding the healing and protective power that young Wing Tribe has when they are born. This research has begun for about fifty years ago. During their research, they found out the healing and protective power connected with the colour of the Wings. They conduct many experiments but all of it failed. This is because many of the children of Wing Tribe was born without Wings because of mixed marriage with other races.
They manage to preserve the Wing tribe blood but unable to maintain magic power that their tribe have, only ten percent of the Wing child tribe manage to be born with Wings. This is when the thing goes haywire, that is when they start to research on heritage. Heritage is the magic power that can be inherited by their descendants. The heritage will help the young Wing tribe to have Wings. They can awaken their bloodline and fuse with the heritage to form Wings. Their magic power also undergo awakening. There are also descendant that unable to fuse with the heritage and able to receive heritage in a different way that is in the form of weapon. They able to awaken their magic power but they unable to form Wings. This is what they call full heritage and half heritage.
The full heritage has three-stage that is illusionary stage, real stage and rune stage. The illusionary stage forms an illusionary Wing and after having twelve illusionary wings they will be upgraded to real Wings. For the Wings to achieve rune stage, the inheritor has to have twelve real wings before it changes into runic Wings. For the half heritage, they receive it directly in the real form but whether they can wield the weapon it is up to their magic power and understanding. It is believed that it has a rune stage but none of the inheritors manages to achieve it.
They also found out that heritage can be inherited by normal people as long as the inheritor receives consent from the owner. So, the government start to turn normal people into the Wing tribe and Maria is one of them. The researcher also found out how to cleanse the fallen heritage. Their research is quite beneficial to the Wing tribe and also expands the Wing tribe population.
When Maria receives her heritage fifteen years ago she has form white illusionary Wings. It is an evolution because the real Wings colour of the heritage is orange. Every scientist is elated and they treasure her dearly. They believe that they have achieved a breakthrough in this research. They continue the research by using Maria as the subject and found a way on how to produce heritage without having to die.
This research is being leaked and the greed in people heart is triggered. If they can produce magic power for others to use using magic then they can also use it to steal other people magic. This is when the nightmare begins."
