Chapter 17: Rescue (2)
Jack did not leave Mikayla even after he finishes healing Mikayla. He sits on the chair beside Mikayla and starts to read a book. Unlike Joshua or Professor Shane, Jack pays more importance to the research than to Maria. To him, another Maria can always be created. Maybe Mikayla can be the second Maria. So, that is why right now he wants Mikayla to be in good condition mentally and physically.
Professor Shane is resting in his room. Well, he supposes to be resting but right now he is reading the document related to this research. If possible he did not want another mistake to happen. When he first involved in this project six years ago, he is mesmerized by Maria. He grateful to his teacher Professor Gillian because he is the one who recommends him to take over the research.
Five years ago, Maria involve in an accident where one of the scientists tries to kill her. Since then Maria is in a comatose state. He did not believe that Maria is dead. He manages to convince the director to prove that Maria is still alive by returning her heritage to herself. Every heritage besides having the will of the dying, it also contains a bit of life energy. If the life energy return to her then Maria will be awakened. That is what Professor Shane believe but he needs the heritage in perfect condition.
The thing did not go as Professor Shane plan. Firstly, Maria heritage becoming a fallen heritage. Then, they unable to find the inheritor of the heritage. Now when they find it, the inheritor already integrates with the heritage. How could phenomena as rare as that happen to a boy?
"Knock...knock, Professor Shane it is time," said Assistant 1.
"Alright," said Professor Shane and he gets out from his room.
Assistant 3 wakes Mikayla up and when he wakes up he saw the assistant. "Eh! Jack said you mute."
Assistant 3 "..." Jack that sits beside the bed feels amuse "He is mute. Only when talking to you."
Mikayla is speechless. Jack is weird, before this, he has shown himself to Mikayla as a strict person. Why did he feel that this Jack is a playful person and like to tease him? He did not know which one is the real Jack. He put on his guard because he knows none of the people here can be trusted. Being cheated once is enough.
"Put him on the chair," said Jack.
The assistant wants to carry Mikayla to be put on the chair but Mikayla slaps the assistant hand and runs toward the door. But he unable to open the door.
"Sit on the chair by yourself or let the assistant put you on the chair. You have thirty seconds to chose," said Jack.
Mikayla that struggling to open the door is stunned by the murderous aura coming from Jack. He slowly turns his head around and sees Jack smiling at him. The assistant immediately put Mikayla on the chair and make sure the chain bound on Mikayla hand and leg is secure. Jack wakes up and open the door easily and the assistant push Mikayla to follow Jack. There is no resistance from coming from Mikayla as he is overwhelmed by the murderous aura.
Professor Shane and Joshua already arrive in the room where Maria is located. Both of their eyes have a glimmer of hope in awakening Maria. Jack and Mikayla enter the room and Professor Shane instructed the assistant to push Mikayla towards the glass coffin and Joshua to opens the coffin lid.
Professor Shane takes out two square magical items. It also looks like a cube. He opens the cubes and one of them float in front of Mikayla and another one floats above Maria. The cube started to glows with green light and the light forms a chain. The chain enters Mikayla's chest and then connected to the second cube above Maria. Maria's cube also glows with a green light and a chain enters her chest. The chains from the cube have connected both Maria and Mikayla together.
Mikayla feels nothing when the chain enters his chest. It would be lying if he says he is not scared. They are trying to resurrect a dead person. The question he asked Jack did not give him information regarding Maria and what he uses for. It sucks to not knowing anything. He probably died this time.
Then, sharp pain comes from his chest and the green chain glows brightly. The green light travels from Mikayla chain to Maria chain. The green light on Maria also starts to glow. Mikayla groans because of the pain. He feels weak and his face started to pale. He also feels his magic power in his body being empty little by little. He wants to get rid of the chain but his hand and leg are bound to the chair. He begins to struggle by shaking his body but it only increases the pain.
"What are you doing to me?" shouts Mikayla. "Release me!"
None of those who present pay any heed to Mikayla. All their attention focused on Maria. Maria condition is opposite with Mikayla, her pale face started to redden and her body glows with the green light. Maria's eyes seem to flutter a bit.
"It works! It works!" said Professor Shane as he approaches Maria. Joshua is trembling because of excitement. Five years, it has been five years since that incident. Maria can finally awaken. Maria opens her eyes but closes it once again because of the light penetrating her eyes.
"Open your eyes slowly," said Joshua. He is leaning downwards to prevents the light from hurting her eyes.
When Maria opens her eyes, more energy being absorbed by the chain. Mikayla is getting weaken and unable to see clearly. Seeing this Jack, close the cube and pour some magic power into Mikayla.
"What are you doing Jack? Maria needs more of her magic power," said Professor Shane.
"It enough. Maria is able to open her eyes," said Jack.
"You! If anything happens to Maria, I'll make you responsible for it," said Professor Shane.
Shooting his gazes towards Maria, "Another Maria can always be made, I can understand Joshua attachment as a guardian towards Maria but you as the main leader in this research how could you place too much emotion on a subject?" said Jack.
"Maria is a living person," said Professor Shane as he looks at Maria. His look towards Maria is completely different than other experiment subjects. Another experiment subject already becoming waste material in any dumpster if they are unable to show results within three months but because of Professor Shane and Joshua pleas, the director decided to give exception towards Maria. This because she is the first subject that basically achieves all their expectation.
Joshua did not care about the rest of them. He slowly lifts her from the coffin and put her on a chair. Her eyes passed through everyone in the room and stop at the Mikayla, her gazes are deep like a bottomless lake. There is no warm or mirth in seeing Mikayla. Mikayla notices the gaze and they look into each other eyes.
Mikayla's eyes filled with confusion and also exhaustion. Has he fulfilled his uses now and will they kill him? Is this Maria? She is pretty for sure but something is not right. With his previous life experience he unable to detect Maria emotion. She is to calm facing this situation. She is just being revived how can she just act like nothing?
Maria suddenly spread her Wings and fly towards Mikayla. She put both of her hand at Mikayla neck and strangle him. Jack is startled and tries to pull her hand but Professor Shane stopped Jack. Mikayla's face is getting blue.
"Mikayla is an important subject. If anything happens to him Maria will be terminated!" shouts Jack. Hearing this Joshua finally take action and separate Mikayla from Maria.
"Maria, he is your inheritor don't kill him," said Joshua. Maria listens to Joshua and let Mikayla go. Mikayla is like a fish on land gasping for oxygen.
"Want mo...more," said Maria with a raspy voice. Joshua realises what she wants. Mikayla magic power is already integrated with Maria heritage so his magic power is also Maria magic power. Maria is just awakened so she needs more energy.
Professor Shane grabs the cube once again but Jack blast him with magic power and slam him on the wall. Blood flows from Professor Shane mouth. He has an unbelievable expression on his face. Joshua approach Maria and pours his magic power to Maria. Maria humming in please like a child.
"I already said that Mikayla is important," said Jack as he looks towards Professor Shane.
Professor Shane wants to argue but stop due to gunshot. Bullets pierce Maria's chest.
"Bang". Once
"Bang." Twice
"Bang." Thrice
"That heart belongs to my sister. A monster like you don't deserve to have it," said Kent.
