Chapter 9: Nine
"are you happy with him?" she ask in a sweet voice, smiling coldly at her.
"Yes. Why would i not be when he treated me kindly."
"huh, Don't be stupid"
"You think that because he married you, he would stay faithful for you? Think again step-sister, after getting what he wants, he would dump you like he dump all his past relationships. You think that he is kind, think again, he is a heartless man who like to prey on a innocent girl like you."
"Do you think I'm lying? I'm just telling you out of the goodness of my heart to just divorce him, get out of his life—i would even give you money and forget everything otherwise it would be just a waste of time. You don't even have a educational attainment, conceive out of wedlock, your mother is even a mistress. So don't be stupid, think about whether he's ever appeared with you in any gathering or parties for the elites, he would give you a house, bottomless credit card, show you that he cares, that he likes you. But he would never let you stand at his side when dealing with the upper clasa because he knows that you would embarrassed him, hey are you listening or not? " she shouted, gritting her teeth in fury while looking down at her.
"Yes, listening ah" raising her head, she hurriedly reply.
"huh! You think this is a joke? Don't come crying home when he dump you. What he really need as a wife is someone like me, successful, not someone like you who only know how to read books and sit in the corner stupidly doing nothing!" she spat before striding off and going to our table.
I became sober instantly, digesting her words, trying to come up with a reason to counter with it but founding nothing.
What she said is true. Everything she said accurate about the gap between me and adam, he is so successful while I'm me, just high-school graduate. I been living in a fairy tale where i could just sit, relax and nobody would covet him from me.
I'm such a naive person.
Unknowing, unsuspecting to how the worlds work. Of course someone whould desire him after all he is handsome, young, successful and rich.
When the seeds of doubt is planted, you would never dislodged it, it would wait for the right time to germinate and grow if you decided to water it.
After our vacation, i started to look for online schools if they could accept me, the university and college has started so going in nowise unless i would bring his name out which i don't like. As much as i can, i want to do it without his help.
"why now?" he even ask when i decided to talk to him about me studying. I don't blame him, he asked me before i started learning to cook if i want to apply in a university but i declined.
I just smile when he ask, then tell him that i want to study and to help him in his work.
"okay, if you want to. Then should i enroll you in a university, even though you are a late comer I'm sure they could still accept you."
"no its okay, I'm just gonna look for an online class and do uniting then properly apply for a university next year."
"okay."
I know that he would never dump like lorie says. He would never tolerant me and my tantrums if I'm just temporary. But I'm to insecure, insecure towards myself, my educational background, my family background and most importantly his feeling towards me. I don't know of he really likes me or what. I don't know if his concern is not just out of pity.
"If you need my help then approach me, and don't shoulder it to yourself okay.", he says before going up to his office, he have so many pending works and issues to deal with so i decided to cook dinner for himself.
"en"
"Adam, what do you want to eat?"
"anything would do except seafood or any kind of fish. I felt like vomiting even thinking about them."
"Then noodles would be fine."
"Yeah, i want spring rolls and fried dumpling as side dishes."
"Got it, I'll just bring it up after."
"you're the best. Thank you."
Going to the kitchen, the chefs doesn't look at my every move anymore, they would just give comments and suggestions of i ask them some.
The stir fried noodles quickly cooked , pairs with a side dish of stir fry baby bok choy, crispy sesame tufu, spring rolls and fried pork dumplings, i carry it to the third to floor to eat with him.
He is so busy looking at his laptop when i knock the door, he even startled before smiling at me gesturing me to come in.
"We should it first before resuming your work." i gently says, before putting the food on the center table.
"We should not have gone on vacation." i commented making him look at me, questioning me about why.
I just gestures to the folders lying on his table, he usually doesn't work at home or if he does it's just for a short amount of time but now, after coming home from the office, instead of relaxing, he is still working.
"is it hard? I mean you work?" i ask him before putting another tufu to his plate.
"Sometimes, but I'm used to it now." he answers still concentrating on eating.
"I want to study Business management." sydney declared making him raise his face.
"You want to open a restaurant?"
"No silly, i want to help you." she smile putting another dish in his plate.
"I thought you wanted to have you're own shop, You even said bakery right?" adam ask her again before resuming his eating.
"Nope, i changed my mind."
"If you are sure, then okay. You can even came to the office everyday if you want."
Sydney smile before nodding her head. Of course she wants to.
