Chapter 23
Across the city Lester was walking along the street. He had been out all day doing his own duties and trying to find further information for Duan Cai. Inside his emotions shook as he could sense someone had been following him. After a while it had started to really make him feel paranoid cause he could tell the aura of the cultivator following him wasn't that simple. He was on his way to find Duan Cai, but with someone tailing him from behind he wasn't sure if he should take notice of them or not.
It was starting to get late and the streets were beginning to clear out. He was almost to Inferno Nexus where he could relax his tension a bit, but he was not going to let up his guard until he could make it onto their grounds. Suddenly a burst of red aura shot past him like someone had been shot from a cannon.
"BOOM!"
A loud noise and fiery aura shook the surroundings. Quickly her turned to find out who shot past him and saw Leon's fist sending another cultivator flying to the ground. Leon's aura was like a fire as it sent golden sparks everywhere from his body. It instantly made Lester think of a new year sparkler the moment he saw it. Considering it was Leon he was looking at he knew better than to speak a word of that out loud. He could understand at that moment where Duan Cai got the nickname sparky to tease Leon at times. It was not a joke that others didn't know about, but not everyone had seen Leon's aura to understand where the name had come from.
I'll keep my opinion to myself.. Lester thought to himself as he stood there.
The man that Leon sent flying slowly rose to his feet and glared them both down. Not a word was spoken between them before the man's aura burst forth. Leon shot himself forward at the man as the man replicated his action and they both clashed their aura's against each other. Both of them were knocked back as the air went heavy with killing intent. It was so heavy that even Lester had a hard time breathing and had to release his own aura in order to keep from suffocating under the massive pressure it was causing.
Lester's aura was more of a bright white light that surrounded his body. It looked almost as pure as snow itself that enveloped him in a beautiful thin but powerful white light. Behind his back the white aura caused a large pair of transparent white wings to shine on him. His eyes a faint blue tint of a glow shone as he watched them both fighting in front of him. With two fire cultivators fighting the last thing he wanted to do was get involved unnecessarily, but his aura was the only way to protect himself against their killing intent.
The sparks in Leon's aura shot out more aggressively around him as he thrust his punch at the man only to have it blocked by the man's arm. A fist from the man quickly shot from the side at Leon in return to be blocked as well. Jumping back from each other they both heaved for a moment to catch their breath as Leon stared the man down like a mouse before a cat. Exhaustion was slowly rising in him, but he was enjoying himself too much to stop and he did not want to let his boss down by letting the man get away. He was aware that Lester was behind him as well though he did not want to seem weak by requesting help from a man that he found annoying.
Leon slowly closed his eyes for a moment to focus internally on his cultivation and aura. His eyes slowly opening back up again and looking towards the man. His body slowly faded from his place as if the wind had blow him away. A panic started to flood through the man as he tried to quickly judge where Leon had gone except he was not quick enough.
A massive killing intent exploded from behind the man as the figure of Leon appeared from behind in mid air. Leon's leg was in mid swing around as his foot smashed into the man's head. His body was sent flying and twisting through the air until his body smashed against a tree.
"Fuck." Leon said as he landed on his feet and watched the man land. He would not mind if the man was dead, but he could only hope at the moment the man was not because he remembered at the last second that Duan Cai had wanted the man's Intel first if possible.
"Holy.. Did you kill him with that?" Lester asked with a surprised expression from the kick.
"I hope not.. at least not yet anyways." Leon groaned inwardly at himself for a moment.
Walking over to the man he knelt down to check him. His hand slowly extended to check for a pulse or breathing from the man to ensure he was still at least alive. A sudden sigh of relief escaped Leon when he realized the man was still barely breathing. It was enough for him to drag him back to Inferno Nexus to be interrogated for information.
"Well, I'm heading back. I assume you're coming with us too.."
"With 'us'?" Lester pondered what Leon meant by his words for a second before seeing Leon grabbing hold of the unconscious man and hoisting him over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. He wanted to respond back to Leon or at least comment on what he was doing, but not a single word could come to his mind at the moment. It was a strange sight to see Leon hauling a person like a bag of luggage and yet he was not all that surprised by his action either.
Leon did not wait for Lester to catch up. He had no interest in the man and did not care whether or not he got left behind. It was not a surprise to him to see Lester acting strangely because he was already getting use to him. The only thing that annoyed him was the annoying look on his face whenever he was near Duan Cai. It was like watching a high school girl fond over her crush. The entire mansion found Lester's emotions rather obvious when they saw him.
