Chapter 1: Chapter One: Forbidden Kind of Love
Mei's P.O.V.
*One Year Ago*
Three little bags.
That's all it took to pack everything I cared to take with me. Most just dusty old books from my private library, the rest trinkets of memories... Clothing was easy to replace, and where I was going, it seemed a new wardrobe was in order.
I took a deep breath and shifted my eyes towards my younger brother Liam who was pacing his office with a scowl marring his face. Liam, who acted well beyond his years, was my very straight edge no bullshit half brother.
My mother, who had an arranged marriage with my father, passed away when I was four with terminal illness. A few months later my father met his true mate, Liam arrived shortly after completing our little family. Even though I was the first born I gave my position to Liam because I couldn't see myself running China's entire werewolf empire.
No, I was too starry-eyed with whimsical fantasies and I surely never let my feet touch the ground. I'm only five years older than him, but he seemed to take care of me more than I could him. So that brings me to now, watching him currently pace his office like a mad man on the phone with one of our international alliances, trying to pull some strings to get me quietly out of the country for as long as I needed. I guess being a 'princess' had its perks because crossing territory otherwise was a huge no no in our world and rarely happened.
Their were a few simple rules; first ask permission to travel into another's territory or you will be killed no questions asked, secondly, when visiting you were to treat the local Alpha as if it were your own and third, if you were to find your mate in another pack you had to leave your old one no arguments (rank determined the choice between the two). You could join another pack whenever you wanted, but you had to receive permission from both parties.
"I don't care if Quinn is busy," Liam yelled into the phone snapping me out of my inner head ramblings, "I need to talk to him right away as well as the A.W.E. (American werewolf embassy), I would like to get her approved for travel by tonight, she is from one of the five royal families!" He swiftly ended the call and took a breath to center himself.
I loved my brother dearly and I was so thankful that he was doing this for me. After being hung up on someone for too many fucking painful years to count, moving across country was the thing I needed most. That and a love so consuming it would make me forget every crack in my heart Caiden had given me during our 'relationship'. God I should have realized how naïve I was for wishing such a thing.
But I'm getting ahead of myself here.
Caidens P.O.V.
*Flash Back*
Over the past few hundred years I had been very close to the Wang family. I watched two whole generations of them being birthed and did my best to uphold my oath to their great great grandfather, to protect them with my life. He had saved me from a hunter who had gotten lucky to catch me piss drunk in an alley during a Chinese New Year celebration parade. Thankfully Mr. Wang had seen him follow me and caught his scent. From then on I returned my gratitude by sticking by the Alpha in position. What I didn't account for was falling in love with his great great granddaughter, Mei.
This was no simple love though. He was a vampire who had lived a little over eight hundred years give or take. One of the oldest ones and of course, like everyone had warned, just as cruel too. Being alone that long did things to a person's psyche, but he just couldn't help falling in love as he watched his best friends' great great granddaughter grow into such a beautiful flower.
He wanted to pluck every petal from her and nurse it back to health once again.
To say that he loved her was an understatement; he courted her for years knowing that they could never be together truly. She was a werewolf, even if he wanted to truly mark her as his, his bite would act like a black widow bite slowly eating her inside out until she was dead. A single drop of her blood would also prove fatal to him. Even if he wanted to turn her they would both die a slow painful death and that isn't what he wanted. No, he wanted her to find her mate and live a normal life and have beautiful children. However she started to want his attention on her own and it coaxed him into a burning flame.
He would do wicked things to push her away, such as getting caught purposefully grinding up against loose women at bars and drinking from their vein instead of the bag knowing she wanted to give him that pleasure. Every time she would catch him and every time he would regret watching her heart break, he always would run back to her begging for forgiveness because he was a masochist and as much as he knew that it couldn't be, he was too selfish to let her go. He knew the last straw was coming; he just wasn't prepared for it to be so soon.

I had told her she was welcome to stop by my house late one afternoon planning another mean scheme but this time he wanted to go just a tad further. In a sick way he was testing her to see just how far he could go before she would finally snap.
The front door made a noise signaling that she had arrived but he began to feel a sickness wash over him. Did he really want to hurt her again? They had been doing so well for the past seven months... But I think that was the problem, they were doing well and it killed him more.
The door to my bedroom swung open and I knew I was too late to stop the charade. I intimately locked my lips on the slut I compelled earlier for the dirty little trick. She had let out a gasp as I slowly sank my teeth into her plump vein while she started to stroke my hard member, which I had to focus on to even keep up.
"Caiden..." her soft frail voice tailed off in a whisper. My heart fell to the floor like a bowling ball, knowing the naked state she saw us in probably was destroying her.
I was fully committed now and my fucked up head wouldn't back down.
He calmly tapped the woman on her shoulder and she shifted off his lap to sit next to me, I made no move to cover my member. Our eyes were locked on one another's and I could now see her resolve buckle. I lifted my thumb up to wipe away the trail of blood that leaked down my chin, how I longed for it to be hers. "Mei..." I finally spoke up breaking the chilly silence sending her an evil smirk.
"I wasn't expecting you to swing by today," I said while I lifted my fingers to play with the blonde's hair. Mei let a low feral growl escape her lips but quickly rained her emotions in like she was trained to do as a princess.
"Caiden, why do you continue to humiliate me this way? Just break up with me like an adult," I hear the broken words escape her lips. God if only she knew she was too good for him.
"Oh Beloved, why would I do that? No matter what... you will always belong to me." I think I was just trying to convince myself that she would let me get away with this, but regardless of what happens she would always be my chosen one. I've lived for over eight hundred years and have never met anyone as captivating as her. I had unintentionally imprinted on her shortly after she turned eighteen, I could remove it whenever I want, but I wanted it to stay there.
I know I am a selfish fuck.
Rage filled her eyes, than hurt, then finally she was void of all emotion. Fuck I had really done it now.
"Never. Call. Me. Your. Beloved. AGAIN! YOU FILTHY VAMPIRE! I am sick of your stupid games!" She bit out each word at me and shot a look towards the blonde. "You can have him honey but just know he will lead you on for years with no promise of any kind of future and an empty black pit in place of your heart!"

Mei's P.O.V.
*Present*
Liam has walked towards me after regaining his composure, "your flight leaves in an hour, I will email you the plane tickets and forward you plenty of money in a secured account. I have to ask once again though sweet Mei, are you sure this is what you want?" He looked at me with his usual serious face. It pained me to leave him behind me but he was plenty occupied with his Alpha duties, and I was the last person left in the family house.
Dad had moved out shortly after Liam took over the empire and I never moved out with Caiden because this wasn't the first time he pulled a stunt like this, he never fought me too hard on that either. Plus he was Liam's advising mentor, just as important as the beta if not more. That meant he was always around, I wouldn't be able to escape his gaze here.
"Yeah," I replied emotionless. "I don't want to be here when Caiden comes crawling back like he always does after he fucks up." He growls making it clear he didn't want to talk about Caiden any further. Knowing Caiden he will show up here in a few days begging for me to come back to him. Liam was going to have to deal with that mess and I didn't want to see them have another brawl again like they did every time I came running to my brother in tears.
"Let me take you to the airport at least; you owe me since I have to deal with Caiden now. He might try to kill me this time for hiding you away from him permanently." I giggle with slight satisfaction knowing that he will go a little crazy once he can't find me, serves him right though.
"You're Alpha, I think you can stick up to that prick for me." He gives me a weak grin and pulls me into a tight hug, "I am going to miss you a lot, but I will make sure to visit you whenever you feel like things have cooled off and settled okay?" I nod my head that rested on his shoulder. "Okay brother."

Vampires can have more that one chosen beloved, in 'my' world they do not have a goddess that gifts them a soulmate because they have no soul. However, a vampire once imprinted or sired create a bond similar to ones of mates, but not as intense. The reason why they cannot be together finitely is because in order to permanently seal the bond the vampire has to turn or bite the beloved. (I hope that makes sense?)
