Chapter 8: Day 7
For Kyle's sixth birthday, I drew my interpretation of musical notes. I looked at pictures online and copied them from there. It took painstaking time to scatter those music notes around the number six as well as inside of the card. Not that Kyle cared.
"You definitely are a horrible drawer, Renata." I fished through my sweater pockets and threw a pen at him. It bounced off of his forehead. "What just happened?"
"I just threw a pen at you because I have nothing else to throw." Kyle picks up the pen and throws it at my forehead. "HEY!"
"Now, we're even. And you interrupted me. I didn't even read your message inside of the card, yet." As he opens the card and frowns at undoubtedly what he saw as unworthy depictions of musical notes, Nurse Ramsey opens the door.
She glanced at Kyle and I anxiously as she said, "I heard shouting. Is everything alright?"
"Yes, just a difference in opinion," replied Kyle as he silently reads the message inside the card to himself for a moment. "Now, butt out."
"Kyle!" I yell, making him look at me disapprovingly. I turn to the door and I'm about to apologize, but Nurse Ramsey already clicked the door shut. "She just wanted to see what was going on."
"Wrong; she wanted to snoop in." Kyle looked down at the message as he said aloud, "Six is the year of learning what school grades represent. Don't forget the most important grade is the one you put on yourself." Kyle smirked at me as he asks, "Now Renata, I'm the type of person who would give themselves an A without blinking an eye. How would you grade me?"
"I give you an F!" I replied as I got out of my chair and started heading towards the front door.
Before I'm able to completely shut the door Kyle yells out, "Oh teacher, what can I do for some extra credit!?"
