Chapter 34: Hotel Golden Plaza , Phuket
After arriving to Bangkok, Dev and Ador had a halt of an hour and thirty minutes before they boarded Tiger Air to reach Phuket.
Phuket was enthralling. sand beaches, green seas, beautiful landscapes, as they drove into the hotel Golden Plaza, before dropping Dev's cousin and her hubby at J W MARRIOTT.
The tour and travel company had kept the day off for travel tiredness or jet lag. James Bond Island, old city tour, walking street, Phang Nga bay. Phi Phi island, Patong beach night life,Chalong's Big Buddha, Wat Chalong temple, Simon Cabaret show by lady boys, night market of Phuket were in their bucket list before their next destination of Pattaya and Bangkok.
Ador was excited . She freshened up and was waiting for Dev .
She called up her parents and in law's about their reaching safely at Phuket. This was her first international tour. She started taking photos in her Nikon digital camera, starting from her hotel room. Girls can get silly sometimes.
After Dev came out from washing up, both went down the 11th floor to go through the lanes ,straight up-to the beach that was half a km away to soak up the sun. Everywhere there was hustle bustle. Both were enjoying. The street food of crabs and lobsters were yummy. They also went to the famous 7/11 shops where everything and anything was available under a single roof, even mobile sims. Since most of the Thai Baht were at hotel locker, both Dev and Ador decided to go back to hotel room, get some cash and come back to the shop for the SIM .
Since it was already 4 pm, Dev told Ador to relax, for sometime, before they head out again for the evening. He said he would go to J W Marriott and bring his cousin sister and her husband too, so that, evening would be fun. Ador agreed to it. while coming back he would bring in the Thai SIM card too. Ador lay on the soft bed and kept an alarm for 6 pm in the evening. She simply dozed off.
At 6 pm she woke up to get ready for the evening night life of Phuket. Dev had yet not come back. She looked out of the 11th floor window at Phuket's night life. Time ticked by. It was 11 pm and no news on Dev. Ador became worried. She went to the reception to ask if Dev had come back. Still no news. So she personally checked on the club area, swimming pool, restaurant, gym. She started panicking. She did not have dinner.
Her head was reeling. She took out her phone and called her in law's asking Ria's contact number. Bali was on the other end of the phone and readily gave the number. She told him Dev could not be contacted. He too was worried because it was Dev's first trip outside India, but he did not want Ador to sweat more. He reassured her that Dev would be back and disconnected. Ador called Ria from the reception and asked where Dev was. Ria on the other hand said, Dev went out with Gambo, while she was on her thai massage and that they did not return back. She also said. " Ador..... don't worry. Dev is a grown up man. Give him his space. It's Thailand. He won't run away... Come on. If both return back, I surely will call you. " So saying she too disconnected the call.
Now Ador was too worried. She became restless. What if something happened to Dev???This country was new to her. What if he got kidnapped, or lost or murdered in the road. What if his passport was snatched in the way, they saw during noon, while strolling on the beach, by a man in a bike, from a foreigner??? Different questions were arising in her head. She thought she would never see Dev again. She started crying in between hiccups. The receptionist offered her a glass of water. She too said, Phuket has an exciting night life, not to worry, and that Ador"s boyfriend would return. She got angry. " Husband, he is my husband" she said and ran towards the elevator, sobbing her heart out. She came back to her room and threw herself on the bed and cried. Ador's hiccups did not stop. She drank water and silently laid in bed, looking at the ceiling, trying to comfort her wee little heart. What would she tell her parents, sister, in law's, she was thinking. All sort of bad notions filled up her mind. Her tired self fell asleep at 3 am and at 4 am, she suddenly woke up to see, her husband had yet not returned. She took some Thai baht and went down to the reception again, then she strolled outside the hotel. This time she thought she would cross the lady boys villas down the street to the 7/11 shop to give a call to India. Her phone balance was low. She wanted to contact the police to search for her husband, but prior to that she wanted to take Bali's permission. The eastern sky was turning red. Soon dawn would strike. Ador called up Ria to confirm if Dev and Gambo returned. This time even Ria's voice was worried. Both agreed that if by 7 am, Dev and Gambo did not come back, they would go to Police to book a missing complaint. After that she called up Bali. He too was awake. He said to wait till 7 pm in evening before complaining to the police, but Ador was adamant. She left the 7/11 store and went back to the hotel room. Who knew her sleepless night worrying about Dev in their journey of marriage had just started.
She was sitting in the sofa and looking towards the door. A new day started with beautiful sunrise. She watched it all but without Dev beside her. She did not like Phuket. Not at all. Not without Dev. Now that they were getting intimate, romantically involved, now that she thought, she would live happily ever after, now.... and Dev was like vanished in thin air.
At 7.15 am. someone knocked on the door. She said "Come in" thinking it was morning tea service. Her stomach was growling and she had a terrible headache. Dev peeped in, smiling sheepishly, then entered. He was full drunk. Seeing him, Ador ran towards him, ignoring the stench of alcohol and hugged him crying. Dev was taken back by her concern and felt guilty. He blatantly told all his misdeeds. He said both Gambo and Dev went to a strip tease bar and were enjoying themselves till 1 am, with beer and hot chicks everywhere. Then Gambo got a bit horny and left with a pretty girl to a room and Dev, being a good brother in law, was waiting outside the room, while the other enjoyed. During this time, a ladyboy gave him company with beer, where they drank their sorrows. Then at 6 am, Gambo and Dev left for their respective hotels.
After hearing Dev, Ador was stupefied. Why was she crying like a love struck fool when both the guys were enjoying. God knows who fucked whom. She got so pissed off with herself that she took the nearest of the bedroom slippers available and started spanking Dev.She lashed out her anger. From shoulders, to back, to thighs, to legs, she hit him hard with slippers and pulled his hair screaming. Dev had a good thrashing. He got so scared seeing Goddess Kali descend down from the heavens above. He swore on his mother, father, grandmother, great grandmother that it was not him that spent the room with a girl but Gambo. But Ador did not listen. Only when her hands ached, did she put down the slippers, wore her shoes and went down to the buffet dining for breakfast leaving Dev with a bruised body and crying red eyes.
