Chapter 19: Bali, the matchmaker
Bali was a man of few words. Whatever he said his subordinates did without a reminder. Due to eminent professionals surrounding Bali, he was more like a machine at work, knowing fully well, what to do and what not. He was an ace in mining, plus he did a lot of free consultancy. His name was growing leaps and bounds.
He thought since he was good at amendments, matchmaking would not be difficult. Just a piece of cakewalk. This time, the person he had to tackle was his extra witty son and the naive Ador.
"Ador, it's been three times you have interacted with my son personally, where you have met him, shared your preferences and the like, but I don't want youto come to a conclusion too easily. He is a good human being. I am not saying just because he is my bloodline, but he truly is a gem. People tend to misjudge him in his first one or two interactions, but the more you know him, you will see, his childishness has not gone. He is a grown up child. Nowadays boys of his generation are much more mature and selfish, but he is not. He places the wishes of his friends before his own wish fulfillment. I know he drinks, but he is a casual drinker. Nothing that you should be scared of. The upper class people drink. It's usual."
Ador cut his conversation midway. "I am in the era where classes don't matter. It's how one behaves. Sorry to say Uncle, your son considers himself too high and mighty and insults people as if they are dogs. I would prefer marrying someone who is not rich but is just and well mannered."
Bali was taken back, clean bowled. He thought Ador to be too naive. He thought he could manipulate with her the way he was used to manipulations in his business world.
He lowered his voice and again said, "thanks for voicing your opinion but sometimes we try to do a lot of work for humanity. "
"Uncle, what do you mean? "Ador asked.
"Well, I understand that Dev had to learn a lot in the world of courting women, it seems. But my child is kind at heart. That much I can assure you. The little bit of wiring of his brain's circuit that you think is incorrect, you can mend it on your own. Do you like my son.....? " Bali asked.
Ador kept silent.
"I think your silence speaks that you like him. I would like to give you the opportunity to mend my son and make him more humble. I think I like you and find you to be able to do justice to the role of Dev's wife.He too has a soft corner for you, it seems.I will call your parents soon" Bali said.
Ador who was listening to him could not reply. She was thinking about the pros and cons of a marriage to a person who was so very demanding.
Bali sensed her hesitation and asked " Are you on speaker mode?"
Ador replied "No Uncle. "
"Well then it's good. All is settled. Don't tell your parents I called. It will not look nice. I will call them up personally. As for Dev, if you still feel there is difficulty in understanding my son, I am always there to guide you and support you. Trust this old Uncle. Will you? " So saying, Bali disconnected the call.
There was a smile in his face. The trap had been set. In this chess of marriage, he had nothing to lose, all were his pawns. Nothing to relookback again. It's time Dev was harnessed. The stage was set. He dialled Gopi's number.
