Chapter 13: Chem-fusion?

The corridors, just like the lunch hall, were silent. Only the shuffling of feet and a stray cough filled the ears of the students as they moved to their final lesson of the day. Amy walked to Chemistry alone as Cassie and Luke had different lessons. Amy paid no attention to where she was going or how the time was passing as just entered the classroom.

It was her form room but it was completely different to how it had been that morning. There was sheets of paper scattered on every surface possible from desks to the floor, walls, and even the ceiling. Most sheets had multiple circles within a larger circle and another - much larger sheet - had many of those larger circles in yet another circle. The ceiling was covered in one big laminated sheet with pen marks all over it crossing off thin ellipses stacked on top of one another to make a large column that looked like a stacked CDs. Finally, on the board at the front of the room was two circles joined by a line with a thick piece of tape over the line that had a section cut out to make a gap.

"This is contact attempt number 8953. Hello? Are you there?" said Dr Warble wearing a pair of black trousers, blue slip-on shoes, and a white blouse. She had just been speaking into a voice recorder and was now sitting on a desk in the centre of the room with her arms stretched out and eyes closed. Long, golden tendrils of light began to grow out of her arms and the tips glowed brightly once they seemed to extend to full length. They then began to move about as if it was searching for a signal with a radio while one moved close to Amy and grazed her hand. The light went out on the end of the one that grazed her hand and it caused the ones around to go out. The ones that went out began to recede back into Dr Warble's arms and in a few seconds all the tendrils had receded.

"Damn it! I was so-" Dr Warble stopped when she saw Amy. She didn't know whether to be shocked, embarrassed, angry. She finally resorted to picking up all the sheets off the desks and floor and then placing them all in a pile behind the teacher desk. She then hit a point of the wall which made all the sheets on the walls and ceiling fall. She gathered all of these ones up as well and placed the with the rest before sitting down and looking at her watch.

She grabbed her lab coat and put it on over her blouse while gesturing to a desk opposite her's for Amy to sit at. Amy moved over to it and sat down. Dr Warble pulled out of of the sheets and past it to Amy.

"What do you make of this?" asked Dr Warble and Amy looked at it. It was the sheet that had the many circles inside a larger circle and Amy looked back at the doctor.

"It's a bowl of marbles?" guessed Amy.

"Close. It's a diagram of our dimension. One of those smaller circles in a universe and the larger one is the dimensional wall that groups them all together. Like a bowl of marbles. Now, what do you make of it when you put this over the top?" Dr Warble past Amy a piece of tracing paper with numbers on it. She put it over the top of the first sheet and now all the numbers sat in a smaller circle in groups of the same number.

"They're all grouped together?"

"Kind of. All of those 1's represents a timeline. Each different 1 is the same timeline but either ahead or behind but as much of a nanosecond. But the 2's are the same timeline with something very minuscule different like an electron's position in it's orbit being very slightly different. And like the different 1's it can different 2's being ahead or behind."

"So, blue marbles are still blue marbles but are almost never the same. And green marbles are still marbles but not blue and never the same as other green marbles."

"Yeah. That's a much better explanation. Now, the bowls group different items. While this bowl holds marbles, another may hold dice or apples or horses. But they follow the same pattern of still a black horse but never the same."

"Why are you telling me this?"

"I'm getting to it. Now a quick thing about these horses and marbles is that they all must have an original that they all are different clones of. This is known as the origin universe. There's no such thing as an origin dimension or bowl because they just group and aren't unique. This origin universe cannot be changed internally or externally nor can things from the outside travel into it. Which is why time travellers can't go back to it and things from alternate universes can't enter it."

"So time travel is just going to a copy of your universe that's ahead or behind!?"

"That's right. This is where it gets confusing though. All these dimensions are grouped in realms. That are stacked on top of one another. I think you saw it when you came in on the ceiling. Other realms can contain anything and obey vastly different rules to us. But between them is what's interesting. In all my research I've found that many call it 'The Void'. A place where time and space doesn't exist and everything is in perfect limbo."

"How close are we to the reason you're tell me this?"

"I'M NOW THERE! I believe I've been in contact previously with a being within 'The Void' who is communicating to me through my telepathy ability. I don't know how but they are." before Amy could ask another question the bell rang and other students entered the room. Dr Warble took the sheets from Amy and put them on the pile behind her desk. The lesson began.
