Chapter 10: Physical education

Amy left the mathematics classroom half asleep but fully worried about Cassie.

Half way through the lesson, Madame Terble began muttering about Cassie being disobedient and disrespectful before announcing to the class that she'd be back in a few minutes. The class began to talk loudly about how boring the lesson was but Amy could still hear Madame Terble's muffled calls of :

'Cassie! Get out here right now!'

"Amy." said a quiet, lonely voice. Amy turned to see Cassie with tattered clothes and messy hair. It looked like she'd fallen down the stairs a couple of times but Amy couldn't see any injuries on her face or arms. "Can you help me get back to our room. We have a little break before PE and I need to tidy up." She had kept looking down at the floor the whole time she spoke and her face was blank with a slight hint of sadness in her eyes.

Amy walked with Cassie back to their room and opened the door for her. Cassie shuffled in and fell onto her bed. She curled up and clutched her stomach in pain. Amy jogged over too her and knelt down beside her with a hand on her shoulder.

"Cassie, what happened?" asked Amy. she gently comforted Cassie with a small rub of her thumb.

"It was- ... I don't remember..." replied Cassie quietly.

She did remember. Every kick and every punch was layed out on her mind like a map without any blur or mistake. But who would care about her if she went and told a teacher that the best and most powerful students in the school had beaten her up. It was the eighth time this term the group had done this. And every time they got away with it.

Cassie rose up wincing a little. She removed her blazer and shirt revealing her stomach and ribs to Amy. Shoe prints and large gashes were litters all over her torso and many scars went hand in hand with the fresh injuries. Amy brought her hand to her mouth in shock and a tear ran it's course down her face.

"You're the only person to see these. I used to come back alone and sort them out before returning to my next lesson." informed Cassie. She still hadn't looked up yet. But it didn't stop Amy from wrapping her arm around Cassie's head and pulling it into her shoulder on which tears soaked into the fabric of the blazer.

Amy later helped Cassie apply bandages and plasters to the wounds as well as change into her PE kit for the next lesson.

"What are you going to do in PE? I don't think sparring would be a good idea and I don't know how you'll hold up in the assault course." said Amy watching Cassie pull her PE top down over her wounds with a pain filled inhale and calming exhale.

"I'll do the sparring. However, using my clone ability won't go well as the wounds will become less stable and worsen. If you want, we could spar together as you haven't done any before and I'll have this handicap." replied Cassie. Amy was kinda glad to see Cassie was more talkative now but she was still worried.

The two girls set off to the main school field where a bunch of other students were gathering. The number of students here could've fill six or more of the classrooms so it must have been how they handled low numbers of available rooms or teachers. The teacher was a man in a wheelchair with blue glasses, a shirt with some metal plates to make some sort of protection, and some padded trousers.

"OK students! My name is William! But you will all call me just Mr W and nothing else! I may be paralysed waist down but I could still floor every single one of you here! So sort yourselves out into two groups with assault course people on the left and sparring people on the right!" called William.

The students split into their two groups and the sparring people paired up. Cassie and Amy stuck together and watched as William set up the assault course. A large trident materialised from a swirl of water into William's hand and he stabbed in into the ground. Many pillars, ropes, and planks of wood all rose out of the ground and form a large course of balancing and climbing. There was swinging blocks along a balance beam and rope hung from a wooden frame make for a rope money-bars type obstacle.

"Don't worry about falling! I can use the water content in your bodies to catch you!" called William

"Wow. That's impressive!" said Amy. She had watched open mouthed as the course rose out of the ground while Cassie remained fixated on the floor.

"William fought along side James Kendrickson and the other celestial weapon holders. That trident of his allows him to use the power of the goddess of water to create and control water. Rumour has it that he can become a giant ice and water giant in combat and used it to fight toe to toe with Lucifer." explained Cassie. To Amy it sounded like a fictional story but Cassie was less impressed by what she said.

"Who're the other celestial weapon holders?"

"Well, the weapon of electricity in with the galaxy famous mechanic Izzy, the weapon of Earth with her brother Liam, the weapon of light is with Edward, the weapon of darkness is with Jack, the weapon of wind is with galactic judge Ben, the weapon of water is with William, as for the weapon of fire.." Amy turned to Cassie when she trailed off and saw her looking off in the distance.

She followed her gaze at a katana in a stone pedestal surrounded by a small fence. A group of students, probably on a free period, walked up to it and nudged a boy towards the sword.

"HEY! STOP!" yelled William but it was too late as the boy reached out and touched the sword's handle. A burst of red and blue fire erupted from the sword sending the boy flying up into the air and down with lack of any elegance.

William wheeled over to the boy and began shouting at him before sending him to the infirmary with the other boys. Wheeled back to the group and looked around at all the staring faces.

"Get on with your sparring and assault course!" he shouted and wheeled back over to the assault course to be the safety net.

"Come on then, we better start before we get shouted at as well." said Cassie and she crouched down into an offensive stance.
