Mathematics

The bell rang and the class rose out of their seats. Amy and Cassie lingered behind a little so they could walk together.

"We've got mathematics next, right? You're gonna hate the teacher. Madame Terble, or Madame Terrible as we call her. She doesn't physically have an ability but she does have the ability to make at least one student fall asleep in her classes." explained Cassie.

The two of them quickly walked down the corridor and reached a door numbered '314' with a small dot written between the 3 and the 1. Amy rolled her eyes at the joke and entered the room following behind Cassie. This room was the exact same size and shape as their form room but the walls were bare apart from two large windows over looking the sports area, the shelves were over flowing with books, and the desk was as barren as a desert. Nine other students were sitting on the back most rows trying to be as far away from the front as possible (probably so they could get away with sleeping during the lesson).

Behind the desk sat a tanned woman with very short, black hair, large, overly magnified glasses, a blue sweater, a black, knee length skirt, and a pair of dark brown shoes. A pair of large but piercing eyes followed Cassie and Amy to their seats and only broke focus once she finally blinked.

"Good morning children. My name is Madame Terble and I will be teaching you the joys of mathematics." began Madame Terble. She walked out from behind her desk and trotted down to the book shelves and picked out 12 thin books with green spines. Each one was placed on a desk including her own along with a purple, lined book. "These are your books for your entire first term. Make the most of the space inside as you won't be getting another one until next term."

The lesson began with the class answering as many questions from the first page of the book as possible. The questions ranged from indices to algebra and Amy finished with 19/20 being correct. Cassie only got 7/20 correct but it was because she did a question twice and got the right answers for the wrong questions. Madame Terble began to go on for a few minutes explaining how it was important to double check your answers but was cut short by a basket ball smashing through one of the windows a barely missing Cassie's head.

The class all rose to the windows to see the culprits but all they could see was a small group of five students walking past. Everybody knew it couldn't have been THAT group who were responsible. That was 'The Gladiators'! But Cassie knew it WAS them. They'd had it in for her ever since the incident last term and hadn't given up tormenting her. The teachers told her that she shouldn't have done what she did even if it was to protect someone. If they wanted to be protected they should have gone to a teacher and told them they felt unsafe. She grabbed the ball and stared at it. Four extra arms protruded from her torso and she burst the ball.

"Cassie! That's the fourth item of school property you've broken this month! Go to the principle at once and if I find out you've disobeyed my instructions again I'll have you in detention for the next week!" Madame Terble barely breathed during her whole shouting spree as was purple as she began to breathe heavily. Amy watched as Cassie stood up sharply making her chair fall backwards onto the desk behind it as briskly marched out of the room leaving the door open.

'Screw them all! They only hate me because it went against their perfect little troop of perfectness. News flash people, THEY'RE NOT PERFECT! They've built an indestructible wall of obliviousness out of the fear the teachers have of their abilities. Take those away and BOOM goes the perfect facade and out comes the monsters they really are. If only I could just-'

Cassie was cut off by a stiff object colliding with her leg as she stepped forward causing her to plummet to the ground with a painful 'THUD'. The laughter and giggles from the corridor around her made her instantly stand herself up but a swift sweep of the legs by an invisible object put her back down. She went to push herself back up but a heavy weight now lay on her head and it pushed her back down.

"You should bow before us, RAT!" spat a voice. Cassie looked up from underneath the shoe to face the voice's owner Oskar. His oily black hair dangled down over his eyes and his tooth-missing grin made for a harrowing sight for Cassie. To many, the tooth had been lost from a high tackle in a rugby game but only six knew the real reason for it's absence.

The shoe rose off her head and Cassie slowly rose up onto her knees only to be swiftly kicked in the stomach by Oskar. His kicks and punches were extremely powerful thanks to his ability of momentum. He could gather momentum in any moving body part and continue it without decrease meaning punches and kicks had more continuous power. Luckily, he had held back meaning Cassie was only severely winded. She fell back onto the wall into a slumped seated position and struggled to breathe. Why hadn't anyone heard what was going on and come to see what was happening. Then it struck her just as hard as the foot stamping on her hand. In her train of thought, she had wandered into the area of the school unused most mornings unless students were doing revision in them.

Cassie's attention turned to her assailants. Oskar was standing back while two others had their fun. Harvey, a younger student with brown hair, had the ability of shadowkinesis meaning he could travel through shadows and move them at will to do what he wanted. The other person was another younger student called Natalia. With long, silver hair, her ability of metamorphosis allowed her to alter her limbs and other body parts in different shapes like hammers and swords. The final two members of the group must have been keeping watch because Cassie couldn't see them anywhere.

Oskar stopped the two before they damaged Cassie too much and ended it with a spinning kick to Cassie's face making her fall unconscious. Oskar gave instructions for Natalia to take Cassie into the girl's bathroom and leave her in one of the stalls to make it seem like she fell asleep skipping class. Her injuries would heal in time before classes ended. He walked off touching the gap between his teeth with his tongue.
