Despite her contradictory behaviour before, everything was looking quite legitimate. Now, Loki was sitting, pouting in front of her as though she'd ruined yet another moment. Nevaeh instantly knew she had to turn his frown upside down, especially since she'd rejected his horse-over-rose-petals idea as well.
'I can't imagine you put all of this together so quickly,' Nevaeh said, taking his hand into hers. 'That horse was so pretty. I loved the rose petal pathway. And that unicorn joke was very witty.'
'That was no joke!' Loki said. 'Why would I joke about that?'
'Because Unicorns aren't real,' she said that slowly as if talking to a child.
'On Earth, maybe,' Loki imitated her tone of voice. 'On other realms, they are very much real.'
Nevaeh was staring at him with stunned silence. 'Are you serious?' she hushed, but didn't wait for a response. 'Unicorns? I love Unicorns! Do not mess with my feelings, Loki! They truly exist?'
'I do not humour you, little one,' Loki laughed. 'They are very much real.'
Nevaeh could feel her heart try to escape her ribs in happiness. She started laughing shrilly while rapidly clapping her hands together. Loki could understand her ecstasy. She'd many a stuffed multi-coloured unicorns in her room. He'd just always assumed that she knew they existed.
'What about vampires?' Nevaeh asked.
'Yes but—'
'Werewolves?'
'Yes—'
'What about Phoenixes? Are they real?' she asked excitedly, her eyes growing wider with each revelation.
'Oh, yes. I never pegged you a phoenix lover—'
'Are you kidding me? A huge red bird that can resurrect from its own burnt ashes? Nothing – is – cooler – than – that!' yelled Nevaeh as she clapped a hand on Loki's shoulder in heightened happiness. Loki opened his mouth to respond when she said, 'Unless –'and she gasped dramatically, stretching out her hand in front of her. 'Loki—'she paused.
'Yes?' Loki wondered which creature she was going to name next.
'Are Sphinxes real?' Nevaeh asked in a voice which was trembling with excitement.
Loki chuckled, shaking his head. 'No.'
Nevaeh sighed, looking utterly crestfallen. 'Oh.'
'I kid you, little one! Sphinxes are as real as the dragons you tamed on Asgard!' Loki said suddenly in a loud, booming voice and Nevaeh's face lit up like a Christmas tree.
'Oh, this is the best date ever!' she said ecstatically. 'This cannot get any better!'
'Depends,' Loki rubbed his chin. 'Do you consider riding a unicorn as better?'
'I can ride a—'she couldn't finish the sentence.
'If you want we can have one as a pet when we leave from here—'Loki was saying but was hugely interrupted when Nevaeh came flying from her chair and into his arms. He chortled in surprise. Their date was going incredibly well so far.
As the night gradually fell upon them, their champagne bottle refilled itself for the third time, brimming their glasses in a whirling splash of sparkling liquid. They had finished their dinner and were sipping the last of their champagne after enjoying dessert.
As they departed the lounge, Loki was going on about the things he had planned ahead for them while she listened to him with a blissful smile on her face. Soon they reached home. After a quick change of clothes, Nevaeh laid herself down on her bed as Loki leaned next to her, sighing happily after the successful tragedy-free night they'd spent together. He had explained her all about the nine realms during their journey and Nevaeh was telling him how she would like to visit Niedvallir and explore its high tech environment to build some new accessories. 'So if I wanted magical boots, I can get them on the planet?' She looked at him through expectant eyes.
'What do you need magical boots for?' asked an intrigued Loki.
'Umm – to fly? You have no idea how difficult it is to cover huge distances without fancy teleportation abilities.' Nevaeh wondered what else magical boots could accomplish other than flying.
'Oh, I think you can learn the ability to fly in a matter of months' Loki said simply.
Nevaeh flipped on her stomach to face him. 'You think I can fly?'
'I know you can learn.' The very prospect of being able to soar in the air without the fear of plummeting towards her death was fascinating.
Loki kissed her on the lips, and she kissed him back. A few minutes later, Loki's finger once again lingered inside the hem of her neckline. Loki gently slid her shoulder strap down her arm and kissed her neck, only to realise that the strap had somehow adjusted itself back on her shoulder even though her hands were visible to him. Loki once again slid it down her arm without halting his kisses and caught the strap moving itself above from the corner of his eyes.
'Why are you doing that?' asked a confused Loki.
'It's happening maybe because people take things slow after the commencement of their first date,' Nevaeh said quietly.
'Slower than this? That seems hardly possible' said Loki.
'They don't make out for this long and they certainly don't sleep on the same bed,' Nevaeh said as though it were a rule of some sort.
Loki kissed her on the forehead before getting up at once. Nevaeh was slightly taken aback and she quickly sat up, holding him back by his fingers.
'Where – where are you going?' she asked.
'In my room,' Loki said with confusion.
'I don't want you to leave,' said Nevaeh.
'Then why did you say all that?' snapped an annoyed Loki.
'I don't know. Maybe because I have never spent an entire night with a boy before, whom I am dating,' Nevaeh said slowly.
Loki nodded understandably. Her eyes turned a bit sharp, fixing themselves on Loki who suddenly felt slightly nervous and shuffled his feet. Loki narrowed his eyes suspiciously when she refused to drop her intent gaze. 'I have spent plenty of nights outside my palace, if that's what you are waiting to hear,' Loki said in a not-very-subtle tone of voice.
'With whom?'
'Let's just say that I wasn't with my bearded friends,' Loki said with a knowingly sly smirk.
'You know what? I would like you to leave,' Nevaeh said suddenly.
'But you just said—'
'I changed my mind. Go to your room,' Nevaeh said in a firm voice.
'Are you alright?' Loki asked, watching the stony expression on her face.
'LOKI, GO TO YOUR ROOM!' Nevaeh yelled as soon as he opened his mouth to speak again. He frowned at her sudden change of mind yet departed the room within the next second.
Nevaeh lit a cigarette as soon as the door closed behind him. Even though they hadn't really talked about this yet she somehow knew at the back of her mind that Loki was no stranger when it came to being with other people, but she felt it was stupid of him to say that at such a moment, especially when she hadn't even asked the question properly in the first place. The fact that she hadn't indeed spent an entire night with a boy inside a room was disturbing as it is, and Loki's admission did nothing to make her feel better. She closed her eyes for a moment but couldn't hear anything from Loki's room. Whenever situations like these occurred, especially when he was annoyed with something she did, it compelled her to fear that he might vanish in a blinking second.
Nevaeh knocked on the wall once, but there was no response from the adjacent room. Her heart skipped a beat.
'Loki?' she called, knocking thrice again.
'What?' snapped an angry voice.
She sighed in relief. 'Come here, come back,' she said, putting out her cigarette.
'No.'
'Please?' Nevaeh said in an intentionally squeaky voice.
A glimmer of green appeared near her window. She quickly glanced at a visibly annoyed Loki, whose lustrous green shirt was thoroughly buttoned till the top as though he were some nun.
'I am sorry,' Nevaeh said quietly.
'What was all that about?' Loki asked, who still couldn't understand her outburst.
'Can we just not talk about that,' Nevaeh said with a hint of exhaustion. Loki sighed and went near her bed to lay himself down on it.
'Why don't we just close our eyes for a few minutes?' Loki said.
After a few minutes, Nevaeh dozed off on Loki's arm and he felt his eyes drifting gradually into sleep. Soon they were both soundly asleep. Loki's thoughts drifted in and out of his conscience, and he had his mouth slightly open as he slept peacefully. Hours passed and the night along with them. The sun rose high in the sky, waking up the sandy beach and the chirping of birds was echoing all about. Loki was fast asleep with both his arms wrapped around Nevaeh's head when his eyes sharply opened themselves after hearing a gut-wrenching metallic click.
The doorknob was twisting, followed by the door slowly opening...
