I left my mission waiting room and once more found myself in the park I had found my way to. My Axe had increased to Lv.2 at 5 kills, Lv.3 at 15 kills, Lv.4 at 25 kills, and finally Lv.5 at 50 kills. If these kept going up the way they were I would eventually reach a ridiculous number of kills needed to level up. Still though. I was 6% stronger in total with my shovel and Axe together. It wasn't tons in the grand scheme of things, but I found myself content with what I had. The only thing though was that I was starting to get hungry. It seems like I was a game character that actually had to eat and drink.
One little issue though was that I had no money. The only way to fix that was either a job, which I couldn't do without some form of ID or secondly taking it. Now while I currently had no chance at robbing a bank. I could likely kill some person who tried to mug me first. I could even make a few jokes while I was at it. I couldn't resist with a pistol named welling. I just hope I do them WELL INGnough... okay that one was bad, but all's WELL that ends WELL right... I'm on a role.
With a plan in mind I slowly made my way to the darkest alleyway I could find and waited... and waited...and hungrily waited until I realized. No one would want to steal from a beggar as they had nothing to steal. I started panicking slightly as I couldn't think on what to do and eventually I came up with the depressing truth that I needed help of some sort from someone. So I did what I looked like and begged. I set by different stores and begged for some help from anyone willing, and none were. Most looked down on me, and those that didn't, didn't have the money to help. That's when a man with glasses too big for his eyes saw me and shared a bit of pity on me and took me into the store to pick something to eat. I didn't fully recognize him but his demeanor and clothes convinced me from the few photos I had seen on the internet in my past life. Picking up a cheap pack of bread and a pack of summer sausages which I knew I could have out of the fridge for at least a while I looked at him with a semi-fake teary eyed look and asked what would change my fate.
"Is your name Peter Parker?"
Time seemed to freeze as the man seemed to be trying to sense something. "I am but who are you?" Smiling lightly I looked at him with a look of appreciation. "Just a friend of your Uncle. I wonder how he's doing? I came by for a visit for the first time in a few years and wanted to surprise him. I may not be in a good situation in life currently, but it doesn't mean I'll completely ignore my friends." And the boy flinched hard at that. Looking concerned I looked at his face and asked if he was all right and he shook his head no. "I'm sorry to mention this sir but it seems you came a little to late. A couple weeks ago my Uncle was shot dead. The crook has been arrested (I noticed he carried a slight smirk when mentioning that) but unfortunately..." and I saw the broken look of someone who's been through a lot for a split second. "We're living just fine though." He looked at me and I looked him back in the eyes and lowered my head in respect.
I whispered a small message loud enough that only a spider could hear. "I'm sorry Benjamin, it seems even in your final moments I was too late. You always were a couple steps ahead of me"
Peter invisibly winced and invited me to his house so I could "talk to his mother about the past." He also got the bread and sausage for me with an even deeper smile glad to help a friend of his once living uncle.
Now while this situation might have been confusing; I had only a few moments to act when I truly realized who the person that was helping me was. I knew I needed help getting on my feet and adopting an identity that was believable with most people would be an easy way of doing that. Especially considering the identity I chose, most people that knew about the truth of the matter were already dead. I found myself suddenly far less stressed. Following the guy home I prepared to meet with my "Brother's" wife.
