Chapter 8: Wings that I want to protect you with
I used to have a pair of jet night wings,
Fearless, courageous, while soaring.
Until it snapped, broke and bled.
Only roots remained, forced red.
I no longer had wings that I could use to shield myself,
That shield of fearlessness and courageous itself.
I lost everything so gradually and consciously.
Until I met you - my most cherished memory.
You healed the scar I no longer wished to see,
You made me stronger than I ever imagined I could be.
Then grew - a new pair of small wings,
But just not yet for flying.
You taught me how to fly,
Even when it became hard to find light.
You taught me how to love,
Even when my selfishness stole above.
In a way, I used you to test my wings, regain my happiness,
My selfishness cost me my new wings, and the one I love.
I tore apart everything you gave me, that we built,
And slowly my wing growth had no will.
I learnt with months and months of how to heal myself, by myself.
I never knew how pale the wing roots were, so slow and still hurt.
Then they started shaping and ebony feathers formed,
Now I lay with a new pair of wings.
They were more beautiful than before,
Jet black wings, glistened with star flecks.
Stronger and more powerful than they ever were.
Now I know how much they mean to me, how much you mean to me.
I regret everything wrong I did,
It cost me my heart, wings more than you know.
Now I'm ready to use my wings,
To guard and protect you for the rest of my life.
