Chapter 2: SOME DOTS DON'T CONNECT.

One whole week. A week had passed since his assasination? That's what the potion maker had just said. The potion maker had been Dioha's friend and adviser from when he was just a kid, even before he joined the council. He'd run all the way from where he lived with his parents to come see Ogalé with his problems, real and imaginary.

Ogalé,or Potion maker as he was frequently referred to around here, was an old Scaven. His real age couldn't be determined,as are all Scavens. They always outlasted everyone. This longevity has been attributed to their meals, herbs and potions. Some people believe it's in their blood, their nature,to live longer.Dioha couldn't remember a time when Ogalé was ever young. He had always been this old since when Dioha was a kid.The frail, haggard body belied the strength beneath it.Ogalé could be well over hundred years old but he still could do what a forty year old man could do.And now he was eyeing him warily.Dioha proceeded to clear the air to avoid an unnecessary confrontation.

"I am Dioha.Ask me anything only i would know."

"Show me your God shield."

"I can't summon that up in this body." Dioha interjected, feeling embarrassed.

"Show me any of the extra power you gained when you became a member of the council." "That's what I'm saying.I can't use any of my powers in this body."

"Not even the ones you had before joining the council?" Ogalé enquired more suspicious than before.

"None."

Ogalé looked lost in thought for a moment before suddenly asking, "How do you connect with your maker?"

"Meditation.I generate Blue bolts." Dioha answered calmly.Ogalé got up and walked up to Dioha. He stared at Dioha for a few seconds before giving him a hug.

"It is really you...How is this possible?"

Dioha could clearly hear tears in the old man's voice. He was very moved by the old man's show of affection. He hugged the old man back tightly. After what seem like a long time, they finally disengaged.Ogalé offered Dioha a seat and some wine while he sat to listen to Dioha's account of the last one week he was 'supposedly' dead.

After one hour,Dioha was quietly watching the old man as he sat there rubbing his temple, digesting all that Dioha had just told him.In the course of telling the story,Dioha had asked some questions along the way, most of which the old man had no answer for.He wasn't a Watcher, neither was he even a Physio.'Those geniuses had the smartest brains in the world.'

"Tell me a little more about this old man you say you spent time with before coming back."

"Well,he is old.Like really really old. There's nothing really outstanding about him."

"What about his mark?" Ogalé asked.

"He had no mark.He is neither from any of the six Ngamé tribes.I don't think he is from around here." "Hmm.Not from around here you say.Human perhaps? But no,no,no.A human couldn't possibly talk to you about Possession. They don't believe in such.To them it's all too complex.Way i see it,this mysterious old man is the one who stopped you from crossing to the other side, and also sent you back. Now the question is,why?"

"I don't care why. Right now,I don't feel like that's what i should concern myself with anyway.I'm here and that's that." Dioha said, getting up.

"Oh right.I forgot. You say you want revenge."

"Yes."

"And how do you intend to find your murderer, let alone carry out your plan?"

"Once i drink your Alter potion and allow it work its magic,I'll rejoin the Watchers Council.Whoever shot the arrow that killed me and...and Jemaima, must have known everything about the God Shield and how to penetrate it.My guess is,someone in the Council spilled the beans."

"Nice reasoning. There's just one problem with all you've said." Ogalé said nonchalantly.

"And what's that?"

"You're not in a condition to go back to the Council.Should a fight begin, you'd be killed in a matter of seconds."

"Watchers are forbidden from attacking one another." Dioha answered.

"But non watchers aren't."

"So what would you have me do?" Dioha sounded exasperated.

Ogalé placed a hand on Dioha's shoulder, pulling him close.

"You need to get your power back up."

"And how do i manage that?"

"Train." Dioha shook his head.

"I'm not waiting for who knows how long, training skills i already know and have, when i should be investigating my murder.Just give me a potion to strengthen this body, enable it to withstand the pressure from me using."

"Doesn't work that way.Potions only temporarily increase your physical attributes, immunity to some spells, super strength, clarity in thought and mind, but none of that will enable this body to withstand your super powers. This body is housing your spirit, but not your soul." Ogalé explained.

"You mean i'm soulless right now?" Dioha asked. "No.What i mean is,the boy whose body it is you are in,still has his soul residing within the body.I mean, think about it.Life is made up of a body, spirit and a soul.Without his soul,i don't think you would be able to move around in this body.I mean,i don't have it all figured out but i'm sure you need to train his soul to withstand the strain of your power thereby increasing the body's resistance to its negative effect."

"Where is my soul then?" Dioha asked. "Frankly,i don't know." the old man shrugged. "How long is this supposed to take? This training." A big frown creased Dioha's face.He didn't like where this was going.

"I can't be specific but i'd say quite some time." "How long?!!" Dioha barked.

"How long did it take you to master your powers in your own body?" Ogalé asked sternly. He knew how long it would take Dioha.Dioha probably knew it too. "I'm not waiting that long to get back to the council.I have to find my body first then."

Dioha turned towards the door. His outstretched hand was almost touching the doorknob when a huge wolf snapped at his fingers from nowhere. He barely reacted in time taking his fingers away.He looked at the huge wolf.Actually there were two of them gnarling at him right now.He turned to look at Ogalé.

"What's the meaning of this?" Fury was evident in Dioha's voice and eyes.

The old man simply laughed.Dioha's rage boiled over.He made a quick dash for the old man but one of the wolves jumped on him while the other attacked his legs.He crumbled to the ground under their combined efforts. These were no ordinary wolves.Their muscles and bones were huge and thicker than that of a lion's.If they reared and stood on their hind legs they'd be taller than him.Keeping their four paws on the ground, their nuzzle could easily reach Dioha's chest.Their weight and size were another matter.Dioha felt sharp pains on his ankle, back and head as the two beasts continued to tear him apart.

'Was he going to just die like that after just coming back?Would there be some sort of miracle to bring him back again?'

He raised his head painstakingly to look at Ogalé,while trying to throw the wolf off his back.Ogalé was still sitting on the chair grinning at him,but suddenly the space around him warped and kept putting distance between him and the entire room. With one last grin,Ogalé spoke to him.

"Good luck getting those Saber-wolves off you.And one last thing...there's no coming out if you die." And with that Dioha was left all alone with the two ferocious beasts.
