Chapter 32: Expenditure
"So, how did I do?" Ronan was curious about how he did, he didn't even let Steve talk which was surprising.
"Not bad, you have some talent for negotiating, but it's in its beginner stages, you shouldn't get too hyped up about it, also next time maybe let me at least advise you, the other side at least looked like they were debating, while with you, it was just a deadpan stare." Steve replied.
"What do you mean looked like, I thought they were debating." Ronan was confused because even though they increased the incentive by the same amount each time it looked like they were debating on whether or not they would be willing to increase it anymore.
"Did you see the man in the middle, he wasn't just a lawyer sent by them, he was Harry Post, the CEO of the company so the person he's protecting must be a big shot, or else he wouldn't have agreed to the $3 million payment, besides do you think that a lawyer can call the shots on making a $3 million payment, that's just over what they earn in 2 days, I doubt that anyone would be able to make it happen just like that." Ronan absorbed all the information that Steve gave him so that if he has the next time he can negotiate better because Ronan didn't even know that the CEO had attended his negotiation.
"Okay, I got it, next time I'll make sure to consult you and research the company more in-depth although I didn't think that the CEO would seriously attend a negotiation." Ronan was still stunned at the fact that the CEO attended, CEOs tend to have scheduled appointments for weeks on weeks without spaces.
"Anyway, what do you plan to spend your money on? You just got $3 Million, you should find something to spend it on, or maybe save it and use it later, either way, don't waste it all at once." Steve was both curious and concerned for Ronan, it was a huge amount of money when you look at it and he was worried that Ronan would end up spending it all.
"Don't know yet, but I'll probably send a chunk of it to my family, it'll help improve the situation back home." Ronan wasn't focused on the money, he was more focused on his apps, he had to spend quite a lot of time preparing for the court hearing and the negotiation, most of that time could've been spent writing code or used as leisure time.
"Well, at least you didn't let it go to your head, after all its 3x what I predicted you would get." Steve replied before they ended the chat there.
...
30 minutes later and Ronan was back at his dorm, he was about to call Jake when Jake called him.
"I heard you won." Was the first thing that he heard through the receiver.
"I did indeed, so how much do I owe you." Ronan was curious to see how much Steve normally charged his employers.
"Well, you want the friend discount or the full charge?" What Ronan couldn't see was the smile on Jake's face, Jake knew it would shock Ronan.
"Just tell me both." Ronan replied, eager to know how much he was going to lose.
"Well, for him it's roughly $50,000 per day, of course, that's the friend discount, which is 50% off so normally you would have to pay him $100,000 per day if you wanted to hire him." Jake replied.
Silence ensued for several minutes. Ronan didn't know what to say, he didn't expect Steve to be able to charge such a high fee, he had been with Ronan for a while, he didn't even know if $3,000,000 could pay off the entire debt.
"Well then, I doubt I can pay that off fully anytime soon." Ronan was still flabbergasted.
"It doesn't matter, it may be a lot to you, but its pennies to me, so don't worry about it, but if you ever feel like paying me back then feel free too, just tell me if you do I probably wouldn't notice if you don't." It was true, Jake would make and spend money in the millions every day, he wouldn't even notice if he gained a couple tens of millions, let alone anything lesser.
"Ok, I'll pay you back, just don't expect it sometime soon, I don't have the money even with the court case." Ronan replied calmly, but that was just the outside, on the inside he was shocked because it appeared to him as if Jake didn't care about millions.
They had a little small talk, before hanging up.
The first thing Ronan did before hanging up was to check if they were skimming, it was written in the contract that they weren't allowed to skim from people anymore, but Ronan doubted that they would follow through with that, it was more likely that they would stop skimming from him but they wouldn't stop skimming from the others who haven't noticed it yet.
After logging on and comparing the results he found that they were exactly the same, it appeared as though they were paying him the proper amount.
Ronan spent the next 4 hours writing code, by the time he was finished writing, he was exhausted, he spent the entire day being either anxious or bored, so much to the point that it tired him out, enough for him to sleep several hours before he normally does.
