Chapter 13: Birthday
They all sat around the table.
"So what is everyone up to these days?" Ronan had told his sister pretty much everything whilst his mother knew only the basics, but he knew nothing about what they were doing.
"School." Elena answered before shovelling more food onto her plate and digging in.
"Elena has been improving her grades. While I have been working on and off for a while." Alex replied. The rest of the meal was filled with small talk.
During the dinner, they had made arrangements, the day after Alex's birthday they would go shopping.
Ronan got to coding his app, his sister followed him into his room with a couple of textbooks, every now and then she would ask Ronan for help, he would stop coding show her how to solve the problem, make a similar problem and let her solve, some questions took 2 or 3 examples for her to get it, others take more.
"So what are you doing? Your just tapping away, are you actually making a game?" Elena was interested.
"Yeah, but the game I'm making is rather big meaning that I will be typing like this for a while, you can leave if you wish, but if you stay this is what you will be hearing, we can also talk if you want? I don't mind the company anyway."
"Sure, so when will I get to play this game?" Elena was excited about a game, although the app was impressive it wasn't like a game and Elena still had to go to school so she could see her friends there, compared to a game, a game is meant to be played for fun, if not then why would she want to continue to play it.
"Well its an AFK-MMORPG, you don't have to play it constantly, you will level up even when you are offline so that you can always find new things to do each day, the game will have the standard elements like other MMORPGs, such as Guilds, Auctions, Bosses, Teams, Arenas, etc. just that you will be able to level up offline instead of spending 24 hours a day grinding, you can go to work, school, etc. and still level up." Ronan took his time explaining to his sister, going in-depth into the various elements of MMORPGs, she had never played before so now was the time for her to start, she could start on Ronan's game and then go from there.
"Oh, so you want me to play your game, I guess we can do that then, not like it would be any fun." Elena tried to play it off like she wasn't interested, but deep down she was excited to see what her brother could do with his spare time, she had read the reviews on his other app and most of them seem to be positive.
Ronan went back to coding his game and Elena back to her studying, at 21:00 Elena went back to her bedroom and Ronan went to sleep.
The next day was the day before Alex's birthday, Ronan wanted to take a look around the city, he hadn't been here for a while and it might have changed, probably not but then again it's not like it couldn't have changed since he left.
He took a taxi to the middle of the city centre and started from there, he could see various lights and signs that were clearly expensive to have, he could also look at these as possible advertising spots for somewhere in the future, on the main street it was littered with signs, renting a sign there although would be good wouldn't be that useful, it was already filled with signs that were rented by large companies and until he got at least 100 people working for him and some employees he shouldn't even think of renting one here, he couldn't even afford it anyway.
going to the outskirts of the city he was able to find larger signs which would cost considerably less, but that doesn't really matter, advertising physically wouldn't be the best way to go when advertising a game, it would probably start out online advertising, he could also use his messaging app and then move onto the signs in the centre, renting billboards on the outskirts isn't even worth it.
Ronan finished looking around, he had visited many shops, some sold clothes, others jewellery, some games/movies, he looked inside the various shops for presents he could get for his sister and mother, although he had a considerable amount of money he couldn't afford to buy everything so he had to be selective especially since he is giving 1/3 of his money to his sister and mother per month.
Ronan went back to his house via taxi, he was tired from doing all the shopping, he had to get up early as well so he could hang out all the banners and balloons for his mother birthday, it was tradition, everyone else had to put the banners and balloons up on the persons birthday, Ronan doubted seriously that his sister would actually get up though, she had been consistently inconsistent about getting up early for the banners and balloons, although she did consistently make a birthday cake for whoever's birthday it is, even her own.
At 5 AM Ronan woke up, forgo the shower as it might wake up others, got dressed went downstairs and under the stairs there were many boxes, only about 4 boxes contained birthday supplies, there were roughly 31cm by 51cm by 41cm, semi-large boxes but they were light as they were filled with birthday supplies, he checked for the Blu Tack, they had plenty in the draw by the kettle in the kitchen, he got a tea and sat down before relaxing for a while.
After relaxing he got to sticking up all the banners and blowing up all the balloons.
2 Hours later and the house was covered, his sister nowhere to be seen, of course, Ronan would wake her up before Alex got up so he could pretend that she had helped, but that wasn't for at least another hour or 2.
